Can we sign Leonard Davis?

I don't know too much about his individual play, but he's been in the league a while. Signing the LT from one of the worst O-lines in football sounds like something the Texans would do.

Why would we want to put ourselves into a situation similar to that we had with todd wade? High profile tackle free agent from a crappy o-line who will want big money and turn out to be an old fart...umm pass. thnx for the question tho.
 
I think Davis would help out our line. But we need 2 more to replace the current starters. I like Winston. I like Spenser. But going into the FA market and draft we should think of Spenser as no more than a backup. The 2 FA tackles on the market: Davis LT and Steinbach RT are good. But do they fit our zone blocking system?

Davis is overated. At 6'6 365 he doesnt fit our ZBS at all.
 
I was just readng some more of the thread and saw where Davis has had 27 false start penalties from the 2002 season forward. Chester Pitts has 22. I can almost hear the gnashing of teeth now :)

There's this thing about free agent LTs that we should all keep in mind. Every year there are some free agent LTs that become available. Inevitably one of them must be declared "the best free agent LT available". That doesn't mean he's really any good. It means that in the current collection of rejects this guy is the least likely to get your QB put on IR in week 3.

Good LTs don't become available in free agency. Sometimes restricted free agents become a possibility but usually the price is just way too high. Most of the time the guy who's available is so for a reason or he's not worth the compensation you would need to provide.

LT needs to be addressed with a draft pick.
 
leonard davis is a fat pig and a gutless joke. the cards would have cut him by now were it not for his contract.

This is exactly the reason we need to get our LT in the draft. Teams don't let good LT's go. They only let the crappy ones go. Almost all the LT's who have made the Pro Bowl were drafted in the 1st round. There is another thread on this MB that talks about that, but I don't remember which one, and it gives the draft stats for Pro Bowlers at each position. Anyway, I just hope that Thomas is there when we pick. I still hope the Texans win the next 2 games, but if they do, I hope the Cards and others that covet Thomas will win too! I can hope can't I? LOL!
 
ok well i guess this idea is a bust. i havent seen him play, but when you see the words, best FA tackle available and played at UT, ideas just start running through your head.
