A couple of 3 round senarios...

cptnbreakdance

Waterboy
1.) Adrian Peterson RB-Oklahoma
2.) Brandon Merrieweather S-Miami
3.) Troy Smith QB-Ohio State

or

1.) JaMarcus Russell QB-LSU
2.) Micheal Bush RB-Louisville
3.) Best OL available

or

1.) Reggie Williams S-Florida
2.) Micheal Bush RB-Louisville
3.)Troy Smith QB-Ohio State

With our high draft picks, we can get some really good players that will fill some really big holes for us. If we address the OL in the off season, and we really only need a LT so we can move Spencer to RT and move Winston inside to RG.

Personally, I like the first grouping of players the best, Peterson is the hometown kid with a passion for winning we've been looking for for a while,
Merrieweather is first round talent, but has some character issues after the brawl, and if we do trade Carr and acquire Plummer, Troy Smith would be perfect to groom behind him as our QB of the future.

I really dont think that Troy smith is going to fall to the 3rd round.

If the Texans had even a "halfway" decent O Line, I'd say what you have here looks pretty good. We need O Line help, badly. I think we should be picking help for the O Line in at least the first 2 round. JMO.

you mean Reggie Nelson?

how about this- trade down (aquire extra 2nd) then take LaRon Landry, S LSU or Reggie Nelson, S Florida in the 1st. 2nd rd. Michael Bush, RB Loisville & best player available between CB, DL, OL & OLB with extra pick aquired from trading down. Then in the 3rd more line help BPA or QB if Kubiak chooses to go that direction :)

You better find away to score some points and make some long drives to keep your "new defense" off the field.

There is no way that Troy Smith will last to the 3rd round. The Texans will be lucky if he lasts to their second round pick.

Yeah I meant Nelson, My bad..... as for Smith... unless I'm compleatly mistaken... I could have sworn he was being projected as a late 2nd early 3rd rounder, I have been known to be wrong every once in a while though :shoot:

Smith is being projected as an early second rounder at worst right now. There is much talk of him going first round. Michael Bush is probally returning because of a medical redshirt and his QB is returning as well. The only plausible senario out of the suggested is #2, and that is only if Spencer proves he is completely healthy and can still anchor LT, and Winston matures a little faster, proving he can play NFL RT next year. In the 3rd round, we'd only be able to get interior linemen for the most part if we expect them to be impact type players. We got exceptions last year, and interior linemen are much more plentiful in the middle rounds.

1. trade down to middle of the 1st for an extra 2nd rounder - Reggie Nelson or Laron Landry FS
2a. Troy Smith
2b. Michael Bush, RB or OL if he's not there
3. OL if we got a RB and vice versa

or....

2a. Michael Bush
2b. Brian Brohm, QB
3. OL

or....

2a. Michael Bush
2b. OL
3. Kevin Kolb, QB

I see your a Michael Bush guy, I also think he would be a perfect fit for the Texans, think of a younger Dayne with better moves & more speed, also Troy Smith will be a starting caliber QB in the NFL someday the risk (2nd rd.) = reward (starting NFL QB) if the Texans where to trade down in the middle of the 1st rd. range they would also get that teams 3rd in addition to 2nd. how would that work for you? now you could address two extra positions and still get Landry or Nelson in the 1st. for additional 2nd this is what would transpire since the #5 pick is worth 1700 points based on the draft pick trade chart that = teams #10-#13 + 2nd rounders #42-#45 (1780, 1720, 1660, 1600). drop only a couple slots lower @ #15- 1050 + #47- 430 + #79- 195 = 1675

now as for trading partners you just never know but two teams that have extra picks with better records than the Texans who might want a certain marquee player would be the NY Jets & New Orleans Saints both would have to be ultra creative because their slotted right now @ #21 & #27 (geez were'nt the Saints just picking after the Texans last year?). so that likehood is remote @ best, the teams 10-15 are 10. San Francisco 6-8 .482 11.Carolina 6-8 .487 12. Green Bay 6-8 .500 13. Miami 6-8 .536 14. Atlanta 7-7 .451 15. Kansas City 7-7 .451

therefor the three to focus on would be San Franciso (10th + 42nd) Carolina (11th + 43rd) & Green Bay (12th + 44th). now who would those teams need or want that badly to make this trade? San Franciso has their QB & RB of the future so if a Calvin Johnson is there @ the 5th pick would this make it happen. for Carolina would they consider if Adrien Peterson is offered? & Green Bay if Brett Farve is on his way out would they consider another QB, (Aaron Rodgers is not the long term answear) so Brohm or Russell would be a possiblity if they declare @ #5.

to make a long story short the Texans ability to trade down & aquire extra picks is not very likely or probable, just dreaming on a rainy winter Sunday morning

Even though our 1st for a mid range 1st and 2nd roughly equate...I would do it for their 1st and 3rd. Which would be a hell of a deal for them. I don't really see many teams wanting to give up their 1st and 2nd.

With the trade down our 1st could be really anything...maybe even someone we flirted with picking at 5....marshawn lynch, leon hall, laron landry, reggie nelson, darrell revis..etc etc. our 3rd we might pick up kolb if there and the other 3rd maybe more o-line help that kubes can spot.

again it would be a better deal for the other team because we should really get their second. i'd rather have an extra third than picking at 5. but that's why i'm not working in the nfl and sit on the couch.

ps/ atlanta will be picking landry or nelson so we should stay in front of them.

you present a very realistic approach. if I had a choice between LaRon Landry or Reggie Nelson I'd take LaRon. ideally bump down our pick one maybe two slots for an extra 3rd take Landry and be done with it. of course it all depends on who is available when the Texans pick, would he be > Landry + 3rd pick?

I'll happily trade that extra 3rd rd. pick for a win today over the Colts :wild:

now we can just focus on who will be the bpa when the Texans make their pick (LaRon Landry) I feel he has the best shot @ having a similar impact as DeMeco Ryans :)
