Quote That Bothers Me

HoustonFrog

Dallas Frog
I know I have been harsh on Carr and all but this quote about yesterday makes me see even more why he doesn't belong here. From the Houston Chronicle today

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4409045.html

...."I'm past the point of worrying about what's said about me."

"I'd rather just do nothing, just hand the ball off and make a couple of plays and praise every one of my teammates, because they deserve it. If we're winning football games, championships, that would be the best thing going."

Sorry but to me that is saying he has lost faith in his ability and he'd rather not lead but be lead and sit in the background. That is my take on it.

Add to that that Dunta almost called him out and I'm thinking everyone is about ready for this season to end.

I agree.

I disagree. What he is saying is that he is above personal stats, and that all that matters is the W.

Dunta isnt bashing Carr alone. He is bashing the Texans, and Carr is part of it.

If he says he needs to play well, he is slammed for worrying about stats. If he says he just wants wins, he's slammed for losing confidence.

I think Carr needs to go, but I still respect him for even addressing the reporters.

I think that Carr is at a loss of what to do anymore. I heard it in his voice this morning on the radio, he is a "broken" man.

The five years of sacks, offensive styles, pressure, losses, hatred, being compared to VY every day, his wife being spit upon, has taken its toll.

I think he wants this season to be over and if they don't invite him back he won't be heart broken. He sounded to me like he is doing some soul searching about if he even wants to keep playing here. Frankly, I don't blame him.

I hope that he catches on with another team and does well. What an indictment that would be against this organization if Carr went down the road and became what people expected here. It's not out of the question as Harrington is doing much better in Miami than he ever did in Detroit.

Whenever you want some expert advise on how to take a quote completely, and thoroughly out of context . . .

Sorry guys, but that's how I took it too. I think Carr's confidence is rattled, as it should be at this point. but there are problems with this franchise from the top down. Attitudes, game play & planning, and whatever else you can possibly think of are the root of this problem and I don't have the slightest idea what they can do at this point to fix it.

Carr said his confidence remains intact despite his struggles.

"It's not my confidence I'm worried about," he said. "I know what I can do. I know the kind of person I am. I know the kind of husband and father I am. That stuff is all taken care of. The stuff that bothers me is the football stuff.

Wow. The football stuff is what bothers the rest of us.

How is it out of context?I see a broken QB who knows he is getting ripped and making bad plays. I see this frustration spilling over to the point where he would rather be in the background and not taking abuse. Honestly, and I said this yesterday, I'd rather have a guy say he trying and would get better to lead the team to Ws, whatever that takes then say he'd rather just hand off to guys. At some point everyone has to make plays. I think seeing it on the news was even more telling. He looked beat.

The guy is a good guy outside the game but it is best served if both parties split ways and get a fresh start. This will never go away.

No matter what side of the fence you are on, this post is pretty funny (and true).

The quote is not taken completely out of context. The guy is saying that he would rather just hand the ball off then actually have to go out there thinking it will be his performance that will determine the outcome of the game. That shows what people have being saying about him for years; he is not a leader, he does not want to be at the forefront, he does not want to be the focal point of this team which is what McNair is jamming down all our throats, even to Carr's displeasure apparently. The QB has to go out on the field with the mindset that the outcome of the game weighs on his shoulders; some answer the bell, others fold (for various reasons). Carr is ready to pack up and move on himself...

Another post-game quote from Carr http://blogs.chron.com/sportsjustice/archives/2006/12/weve_got_a_prob.html

"I tried to force the issue. A couple of times, I was kind of getting hit and throwing it. I tried to do too much. I should have just checked the ball down. When we're down like that, I'm trying to win a football game. I'm tired of being close. I'm tired of playing good and losing by 20. It doesn't matter what the score was. We lost... I know I can play the game. How we've lost these games is frustrating."

I think David's perception of how he has been playing is off...."playing good"...

Carr said his confidence remains intact despite his struggles.

This quote is total garbage. David, we dont give a flying fart about what kind of husband or family man you are. We could care less. You are a crappy QB. That is all we care about. David is total garbage and this quote tells me all I need to know about how much he cares about football....he is a freakin joke

I agree. It is like his quote last week before the game how they were going to have smiles on their faces and fling the ball around and surprise some people. People eat that crud up yet when the uniform was put on all that was thrown out the window..except fliging it around to the other team.

yup he is a total joke. worst QB in the league besides Aaron Brooks....after all Carr proved he was better than Brooks with his -5 yards passing in Oak

This is a man who is down and out . If Bob truly liked him he would trade him .

I think that is hat he was saying. anything to win. beyond stats and popularity, he wants to win

I think this is a case of you guys missing his point. It's about winning regardless of whether he personally lights it up or not. I'm not calling you guys haters or getting into any of that so please understand me when I say that I just think you're missing his point.

I'd also like to add that David Carr is absolutely lousy at making statements like this clear and understood. This isn't a criticism of him as much as an observation. His body language, tone of voice, and facial expression when he makes statements like this is usually all wrong and it tends to cloud his meaning or at the very least provide an opening for misunderstanding. This isn't about his heart, desire, or ability. It's an interpersonal communications thing.

He's not a good public speaker and he never has been. I think we've all seen and heard enough from him in interviews to agree that generally David's a very dry, bland interview. He comes off kind of vauge and a little disinterested. I think it's a lot like the way Warren Moon used to be criticized for being laid back and not-particularly vocal. It's mostly a non-factor to the people he works with but it gives us on the outside something to point to.

Life is real and football is just a game played by grown men. Get a life!!!

Life is real and football is just a game played by grown men. Get a life!!!

what does him being husband and having a family have to do with football? why is he bringing this up in a locker room interview after another embarassing performance? Most of the people who still believe in him like him for having the following traits:

1) strong in his religious faith
2) good family man
3) male model looks
4) doesnt get in trouble with law

All admirable traits but I might me add that none of those issues have anything to do with football and that none of these things are going to help our team win football games. But inevitably, when the going gets tough, David goes to the 'it's all about faith and family' card.....the act is tired David....go away please

So what your're saying is that as long as he wins football games you wouldn't care if he commited a couple of rapes or murders just as long as he wins at a childs game.

whatever man, read into it however you want. my point is I don't care if a player is Captain freaking America ala David Carr. I just want a guy who truly loves the game and makes it a priority in his life...especially for a QB. I don't want criminals on our team but I dont need a bunch of prima donna holy roller pretty boys that suck at playing football on my team either. It has gotten us nowhere.

give me someone with a little personality and a little edge. this Leave It To Beaver attitude by Carr is old and he needs to go.

we need winners not a bunch of choir boys and unintelligent pretty boys.

I agree and said Ws was all that matters yesterday. To me though this wasn't about Ws, it was about how he'd like to get them...by not leading and sitting in the background. I don't know many QBs that don't want to ball and don't want to lead. He just sounded beat.

I agree will all of you, Let face it Carr just isn't cutting it here anymore and the interveiw he gave yesterday showed that he's not a leader and dosen't really want to play with Houston anymore, He actually looked like he'd been crying. Yes he's been through a tough 4 yrs and rightfully think he got the shaft with Capers but again it all comes down to himself and if he's to turn that page in his life and start new with Kubiak and he hasn't shown that, He's still hanging on to the "capers curse". Hopefully he will be like Harrington and go elswhere and improove to a decent QB. I just hope McNair sees this as well and takes action at the end of the season cause pretty much all of Houston is fed up with it and i can see it's starting to wear in Kubiak having to face Bob Allen after every game to make excuses about Carrs performance and im sure Kubiak has to be racking his brain wondering "Elway and Plummer got it why can't this kid get it?" Seems like that old Houston curse looms over us still. Its funny the Rockets,Comets,Aeros and Astros have all made winning seasons and won chamionships....Heck even the Oilers were pretty much a shoe in for the playoffs at least...man do i miss that. I just think when you come to play for Houston you need to understand what we've had to put up with and are hungry for a change, Bout the only ones who can simpathize with us are the Arizona Cardinals and they look like they might have some new life in them.

Second Honeymoon and I have different opinions on football. I see it as just a game and (I'm not speaking for him) he sees it as life. I do agree with him on some things he has posted but have never posted to those. Sorry because that's not fair.

David Carr is being paid extremely well to play qb for the Texans. He hasn't even come close to earning his pay. Being a good person in life should be a priority over football but what good does it do the Texans if he can't play qb? Same goes for all of us. We don't keep our jobs because we are good people. We either do our job or get fired. This is a football bb. Second Honeymoon doesn't necessarily see football as life. He is just a fan that cares about his team and sees Carr as a problem.

I had an early post that said DC has to go.

Is it that hard or that much of a compliment to be a good person in life or be a good father/husband to your family? I am a good person, I am a good father and husband too. So what? Do I get some sort of prize for being a good person? Does that mean I get a free pass on everything because I am one of the 'good ones'?

When you throw 4 picks and lose your 10th game of the year in embarassing fashion, i DONT WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING about your ability as a father or husband...maybe it just me but I dont want to hear anything about that stuff. How about throwing the ball downfield without throwing a pick. How about showing how much of a man you are by leading your football team and stepping up and earning your paycheck. How about being a man and admitting that you may be the problem after all.

oldfan, i get what you are saying but dont act like i want a team of murderes and child pornographers...I just dont care if you are NFL Man of the Year or not, I just want players that can play and keep out of trouble...they dont need to be Cap'n America or GQ models.

I would draft a qb and start Sage.

yes, i agree. i dont think we should draft a QB with our 1st round pick though. Hope T.Smith falls to 2nd round or wait for a more of a prospect type QB later in the draft. Sage will do just fine next year and I think the team will even rally around him because he is simply....not David.

but once again, that would be the smart thing to do...so expect the Texans to do the exact opposite..they will probably let Sage go elsewhere, bring David back as starter, and stay 'the course'. After all this is McNair we are talking about..he gives a vote of confidence to his grabass buddy Carr and how does Carr repay him? With one of the most embarassing performances ever.

The QB is just as much about attitude as anything else . Jim Mcmahon was not that great but his team loved him , you think Carr 's tough Jimbo finished a game with a lacerated liver or spleen . Plus him and his OL would have a boys night out on thursdays .

No matter what he does is wrong for you people. If he takes a sack its all about his passer rating. When he checks down its all passer rating. When he says he does not care about his stats as long as we are winning, he has no confidence.

Carr is a good QB....

If his line would block and we had better play calling he'd be awesome...

Not true. I just don't get why you guys eat up his b.s. Like I said last week he was talking about having fun and shocking N.E. He came out, laid a turd and didn't shock anyone. He does this weekly and then people hang on to sound bytes, etc. If you look at it objectively and look at his play, he makes the same mistakes over and over. The only reason people are tired of him is because they are tired of the excuses and watching other QBs with bad lines some how win games and improve. If after 5 years he doesn't have the confidence to throw deep and can't do simple things that should be second nature like throwing out of bounds and not staring down receivers, then he has problems.

Going....Going.....Gone.....HOMERUN for the kid from TCU!!!

Just in case noone caught the rest of it.

Carr said his confidence remains intact despite his struggles.

"It's not my confidence I'm worried about," he said. "I know what I can do. I know the kind of person I am. I know the kind of husband and father I am. That stuff is all taken care of. The stuff that bothers me is the football stuff.
"I know I can play the game. How we've lost these games is frustrating."

Translation: My life is great except this football thing that keeps getting in the way of things. I have played QB before so it must be everyone else's fault we are losing. Aww shucks

Correct analysis.

The Carr haters are in a feeding frenzy. Lots of hate going on around here.

Kinda like chumming the water for piranha. Just throw the chum out there and sit back.

At least lemmings wait once a year for their ritual.

Not aimed at anyone in particular.

My one and only post to this thread.
