Important: This is NOT the official board for Texas. This board has been compiled by the staff at Orangebloods.com to give fans a general idea of the prospects UT may be pursuing. It will change as more information and new names become available.
The following chart lists each position, along with the number of players that we believe the Horns will attempt to get at that particular position. The percentages are our prediction of the chance that particular player will sign with Texas on National Signing Day. The arrow beside the number indicates if the percentage has gone up, down or stayed the same since our last update.

QUARTERBACK (2)
Texas inked two talented quarterbacks last year, but the staff was looking to sign one or two guys for 2007 that can compete for the starting job or help fill out the depth chart. They accomplished that goal early with commits from Chiles and Brantley.

The best out of the group to me will be:

John Chiles (type of athlete that can play in any offense, just give him the ball)

Ben Wells (very athletic, outstanding agility)

Foswhitt Whitaker (underrated by many before this year...isn't even 100rivals.com ranked)

Michael Huey (will be a beast, makes huge holes and pancakes his man almost everytime)

John Brantley (excellent arm and nice touch, Colt will be pushed)

Brantley could still wind up at Florida, and don't forget that all comits at this point are verbal and mean nothing. Remember Ryan Perileuax (sp?)

The real question is which one will all of you Longhorns fans be crying about the Texans not drafting next?

2005 Derrick Johnson
2006 Vince Young
2007 ?

Yes I remember RP but RP never said this...

Brantley, who is still receiving heavy recruiting interest from Florida, continues to say that he's solid for Texas. With ties to the Gators, the Ocala, Fla., quarterback says he hears about the in-state school everyday and there is constant pressure. Regardless, he says that he's a "Longhorn."

"Really, I have the same feeling I had after I visited the first time," Brantley said. "I'm going down to make sure I haven't lost it and talk with the coaches."

This visit will most definitely have a huge effect on where Brantley ends up on Signing Day. While it looks like Texas will be the obvious choice, it's also clear that Florida is not giving up without a fight.

The smoke has been building for the past two weeks, and on Wednesday afternoon Longhorn fans finally saw the dreaded fire.

John Brantley has switched his verbal commitment from Texas to Florida.

John Brantley switched from Texas to Florida on Wednesday.
A five-star prospect out of Ocala, Fla., Brantley had been weighing his options between the two programs ever since taking his official visit to Austin earlier this month. After a sitdown with his family on Tuesday night, a final decision was made and a call was placed to the Texas staff on Wednesday morning.

"It's a tough decision. It's a big decision and it sounds like (Texas assistant) coach (Greg) Davis was fantastic, as he has been all along," said Brantley's father, also named John. "The Texas coaches have been class about everything so nothing surprises me about them."

The final decision is one that Brantley has been agonizing over privately for the past week, and it's one that Mr. Brantley said repeatedly that the family didn't take lightly.

"It all kept coming back to home and Ocala being so close (about 40 miles from Gainesville). But I've really got mixed emotions about it," Mr. Brantley said. "We're going to support our son too, but it's been tough on him. I know it's tough, but hopefully everyone at Texas understands. Everyone has to realize he's a young guy with a tough decision. He hasn't even turned 18 years old yet. I know he dreaded that call, but we wanted to do it as soon as possible."

As tends to be the case with high-profile quarterback recruits, the rumors about Brantley wavering on his Texas commitment began to surface over the past couple of months. The speculation really picked up steam after Brantley's Dec. 8 visit to Austin, and the family confirmed on Sunday night that Brantley was in fact weighing his options. Proximity seemed to become a bigger factor with each passing week, and it ultimately tipped the scales in Florida's favor.

"It's all about distance. When you've got two sets of grandparents still living that live right here, little things like that start adding up," said Mr. Brantley. "Johnny couldn't even go out in public without someone doing the Gator chomp. That's no excuse or reason for change, but it tends to wear on you after a while. But the distance was the biggest factor."

The loss of Brantley's commit stings the Longhorn fan base for obvious reasons – Brantley's the second-rated pro-style quarterback prospect in the country – but it also brings up a memory that Longhorn fans would rather not revisit. In 2005, Ryan Perrilloux, another five-star quarterback prospect from outside the Texas borders, decommitted from the Longhorns in favor of the home-state LSU Tigers on National Signing Day.

Brantley's switch, while still a bitter pill to swallow, does give Texas some time to look at other options if it so chooses. The Longhorns still have a commitment from five-star athlete John Chiles, who is expected to get a shot at quarterback, but the team quit recruiting a handful of other top prospects once Brantley committed. The most notable example is Ryan Mallett, who committed to Michigan shortly after Brantley gave Texas his verbal.

"We didn't want to hang out Coach (Mack) Brown and Texas," Mr. Brantley said. "Let's get it done so Texas can make other arrangements. Is there a perfect time? No. But we needed to make the call so everyone can move on.

"We're going to get through it and hopefully Texas understands. They're disappointed, and we're disappointed. We appreciate the time we had to be a part of that and we're so fortunate to have met some great people over there. All I can say is the University of Texas staff has been class with a capital C."

I was wwwwwaaaaayyyy wrong on this guy...but we should just stick to TEXAS kids anyway.
