And WHO did the media say to draft again?

All I heard the media say before the draft was to take Reggie Bush. The hype machine rolled hard with a few people here wanting Bush or Young while a small group wanted Mario or D'brick (D'brick person here).

But the hype machine was ALL OVER Reggie Bush being the first pick and now that he has not been all that and VY has won a few games, the idiots on TV act like THEY CHOSE VY AS THE #1 PICK ALL ALONG!

I am really sickened by the media and how arrogent they act regardless of being wrong or acting like they were right all along.

Im happy with this draft, Mario will be a good player, Daniels is producing well and Spencer before his injury seemed like a decent rookie at LT. OH yeah and Demeco, who has OUTPLAYED MARIO, VINCE (Yeah Vince) and "God" Bush!

Heh, sorry, I had to rant.

I get what you are saying but there was a definable timeline on public sentiment and support on last years #1 overall pick.

Before the season ended last year, it was the Reggie Bush Bowl against the 49ers because Bush had declared for the NFL. At this point in time, media was about 80% Bush 20% Ferguson...Mario was still a game you played on your kid's Nintendo.

At the time of Bush's pre-Rose Bowl draft declaration, and its a sad but brutal truth for fellow Texas fans, Vince said he would come back for another year at Austin. He said it and it was good. Then came the Rose Bowl performance and the stock went through the roof. Well after that game Vince Young got with his family and decided the best thing for them was to come out when his stock was its highest apex and they knew he had a good shot at going #1 to the Houston Texans. He then declared eligibility.

At this point in time, the media did a pretty big U-Turn and the voting was pretty much 20/80 Bush v Young. The people who wanted Bush wanted to keep Carr and give him a weapon and were not sold on Young's translation into the NFL. The people that wanted to roll the dice and tempt fate with VY wanted Young. The rest were mainly contrarians (sic) who like to think outside the box. Notables supporting Young's choice at this time include J.McClain, Bob Allen, Mattress Mack, and Rich Lord.

Around this same time Dan Reeves is giving McNair advice on his opinion of David Carr. The Texans now have to make a choice. They know they can't resign Carr and draft Young so effectively this was Vince's chance to go to Houston. Houston chose Carr.

At this point in time, debate switches to Bush v The Rest. Some VY lovers are still holding out hope, and the people who want to address our line problems want brick or mario...but its pretty much Reggie Bush or Bust. The media is at this time about 90% Bush and 10% The Rest. We go with Mario and the debate has been going on ever since and probably will for a few years at least...if we can improve the debate will go away but if we continue to flatline it will just perpetuate itself with each ESPN Draft Day Coverage.

My point is that the media did pretty much jump on the VY bandwagon until Carr was resigned. Once Carr was signed no responsible media guy could really continue having Young in the conversation anymore...it just wasnt practical...thus Bush was the consensus choice at Endgame.

It was then Spin City

I think it is funny that most of the media was saying that Young should either be moved to WR or drafted way after Cutler & Leinart.

And now they are acting like they called this.

At least Merrill Hoge didnt flip-flop on Young. He looks like a dummy now but at least he sticks to his guns.

Just goes to show that one should not put to much credence into what the pundits say. The fans ain't as stupid as many make them out to be.

yup. one thing we all need to realize though is that this league is predicated on adapting. I wanted VY from the day of his declaration and there are posts ad nauseum from those days. That was when the anti-Carr venom was at its strongest...geez I got banned for criminy's sake...but even then I knew that VY was a big risk. He still is a huge risk for crying out loud. He has had a phenomenal start to his career and is years ahead of what was thought to be his learning curve, but this league does learn how to adapt and just like any QB is one bad injury from losing some of his game changing athleticism. too bad the Texans couldnt adapt on 3rd and 14....

but so as not to hijack further, the media does like to go back and revise the history sometimes....there is a conference going on right now in Iran attempting to do just that..but that is another thread for another forum entirely.

Merrill has this inner hatred of Houston. I know its probably due to all those arsewhoopins the Steelers took at the hands of the Glanville/Pardee era Oilers. That one Monday Night Football game where we basically ruined Neil O'Donnel was just barbaric. Geez thinking about that game makes me think we could really use some Buddy Ryan attitude on this football team. We were freaking mean back then.

I thought the pundits told us to draft Joey Harrington :secret:

I don't even remember the details from back then. Geez, I was just happy to get the NFL back at that point. I was just expecting to wake up from the dream back then and LA would get the team at the last minute. However, I wasn't sold on Carr but it was more due to him coming from a non-traditional college football power than anything else. I also shy away from workout warriors in my own preferences. I prefer the guys who have been playing under intense WIN EVERY GAME pressure week after week in college. IMHO, It helps the kids become better prepared for the pressure of the NFL especially being the #1 pick in the draft.

It is interesting that the consensus nationwide by the pundits before the draft was that we should take Reggie Bush. But after Sunday's game vs Titans, everyone seems to have a memory lapse and now claims it was obvious even before the draft that we should have taken Vince Young. The reality is, it will be years before we know if the best pick (with 20/20 hindsight) would have been Williams, Bush, Young, Leinart, or someone else.

Is this thread about 8 months too late? I could have sworn this was a thread about 8 months ago.

I guess I can bring back my whining about not drafting D'Brick and trading down a bit.
