the pure athletic ability alone warrants a look, but i wouldn't invest a first day pick on him. he's just too inconsistent and makes poor decisions when it matters most. he needs to stay another year; LSU probably has the most talented team going into next year.
the loses this year weren't necessarily his fault but he wasn't able to take the game over and win it.
if he was 6'7, LSU would say he was 6'8.Titan "Tack" Fan;532260 said:I had a class with him last semester. He's definitely bigger than 6'6. He's 6'7 pushing 6'8. He is one of the most physically impressive people I've seen in person.
I watch a TON of SEC football....and I think he is a top 20 pick for sure...may be a top ten pick after all the film is broken down and people grasp his cannon and his intelligence to go along with it. I'd love to have him as his coaches think he is smart enough to be a coach if he wanted to pursue it. He can chunk the ball the length of the field and can move well enough even though he is massive and a physical freak. He reminds me of a larger Rothlisberger with a better arm and is a bit like Cullpepper except I think he has more upside. His game translates to the NFL in a big way.

I don't know about that...but I do know that being over 6'8" isn't a positive trait projecting a QB to the NFL....I don't think there has ever been a great QB that tall.Titan "Tack" Fan;532368 said:No they wouldn't, QBs are usually listed smaller than they are.
no, no they aren't. no player is. ever. russell is not 6'7 or 6'8, sorry.Titan "Tack" Fan;532368 said:No they wouldn't, QBs are usually listed smaller than they are.
also, with possible combine and individual workouts to impress people, and only one true first-rounder QB in this draft, don't be shocked to see someone reach BIG on russell. top 10 possibility.
He is every bit the prospect Rothlisburger or Lefty, or Cullpepper was....and this isn't as good a draft as last year...so I wouldn't consider it a reach at all.no, no they aren't. no player is. ever. russell is not 6'7 or 6'8, sorry.

well, in the minds of the GM's. brady quinn is the only true first-round prospect this year...so far.please define true first-rounder QB

not to mention a couple QB's taken recently in the 11-15 range have done pretty good. right now in a trade down scenero Marcus Russell or Troy Smith are viable targets for the Texans to evaluate.
you are setting yourself up for a fall if you think the Texans are going to draft a first day QB...... if a QB at all.

Ryan Periloux is a reason Russell might come out early...
I'd take Troy Smith, Kevin Kolb, and Russell all around the same spot...I think they all have around the same draft positon(IMO). Kolb not yet in the media but it will come. I think that spot is late 1st early 2nd.
Russell does seem to project to the NFL well, like Vinny was saying. I think Kolb and Smith would fit in earlier than Russell. Although, I'd feel more confident that Russell was going to end up being a superstar.
I think Periloux being only a freshman plays a bigger part than anything else. With time on the bench to absorb the game, I'm not sure Periloux will stay on the bench.Yes, and like I've said before, I think that is a testament to Russell's talent that he is still starting with no issues arising thus far. Periloux is VY 2.0 with a better arm and faster...and not starting yet because of Russell.
Sounds like another Andre Ware to me....I think Periloux being only a freshman plays a bigger part than anything else. With time on the bench to absorb the game, I'm not sure Periloux will stay on the bench.
Ah...Kubiak's next project.russell makes some big mistakes though, too many INTs when it counts, I am not quite sure he knows how to use his talents.
Right now, I just don't see Russell having enough will to put a team on his shoulders and win a game. I don't see him having the poise yet to truely lead his team. I see it in Smith though. But I won't advocate spending a 1st on him unless we spend like the ScRubs in FA.
