Front Office: What to do?

Spike

The purpose of this message isn't to discuss whether or not our first draft pick this year was a bad one...or whether Carr should be traded in favor of another starting QB. I am not sure that it matters now (hind site is 20/20) and all of these decisions are gambles. Honestly, I don't know enough about football to say whether or not last year's moves were horrible...I think the organization just took a gamble and was horribly wrong. After watching today's game, I think McNair was foolish NOT to make a pick for this fans and give this organization something to root for.

My question is, if you are the Texans front office, what do you do this offseason to spark some fan interest? Again, I am no football expert, but it seems like we are more than one or two players (or even moving Carr) from becoming a winning organization. I have followed the Texas since day one, but it is just getting hard to root for this team. Yes...I do see improvement and the team is competitive, but how many losses like this can we watch? Even our wins are pathetic. I am a HUGE VY fan and happy for his success, but I am dreading watching this game winning run on TV all week (and again for the next couple of years when these two teams meet to play).

I find myself jealous of the Titans, not because they won or that they have VY, but because they have something to be excited about...a core to grow with. What can the Texans do this offseason to give that to the Houston fan base? I will continue to be a Texans fan, but the losses hurt less and less and eventually, if there is nothing to look forward to, then it becomes harder to watch. How do we turn this around???

You draft Adrian Peterson...

I don't know, GoldEagle. The fans have been asking for an offensive lineman for about four years now, and the front office has yet to give it to them. Besides, are we ready to accept that Spencer and Winston are busts? We haven't had them one season!

I was never high on Winston, he got EMBARASSED at the Senior bowl! Spencer seemed to play ok, but the injury is bad.

We could have had Jordan Gross who is now one of the best starters at the LT or RT now, but we got a BIG WR who drops passes and cant get open. Lord only knows what they will do. They might go with Peterson because the fans want him, but what is he going to do besides get injured behind a bad o line.

No, Spencer will be fine (assuming that he comes back 100% from the injury) and I thought Winston showed good improvement from last weeks performance (held his man in check today).

I feel that we are just going to have to be another Cincinatti Bengals football team. We have to wait for about 11 to 13 years before these current players become too old to play anymore.

Then we have to wait another 11 to 13 years after that for those players to get old too.

c'mon man....it's not that bad!

we lost a game, a very closely contested game that was basically decided on a coin toss and a bad kickoff play.

we'll get there soon and the pain we're experiencing now will be a distant memory.

This franchise makes me puke. If I was the owner, I would want some answers. This team concedes because that all they know how to do.

Their club might as well not show up. They're going to lose anyway. They're no good for nothing. They have more bad players than the good one's.

I can't watch them anymore. They're too depressing. Just tell me how a fan can watch this madness year after year.

We need a spark real bad. This team needs a kick start. That's why Bush would've been good. If for NO OTHER REASON than to give a spark to the team. It would've have been money well spent. Nothing against Mario but there's a lack of excitement with the team.

'Cause that's just what we do. And because of the sports fan mantra: 'It'll be better next time out.'

Next year, my friend, you'll see. The signs are there if you look for them. We're so much better than we were this time last year. At some point though, the softly softly thing has to get pulled back and we need to start calling some moderately gutsy offensive plays. I mean a kneeldown to close the game? WTF?

You don't think the owner is in on a bunch of these decisions? We have been very bad for a 5 years (except 1 year till we lost to Cleveland).

I'll wait until next year to make a final statement. But so far there's definitely something not working. Like we have people who don't know football.

It's getting harder and harder to watch this crap.

I guess the consensus is just a high profile offensive player...Dameco for the offense. It may sound silly, but I still think that Mario was a decent pick. He is on a bad tire this year and should get better.

Unfortunately, even if we had a great RB, I am not sure that we have a line that can consistently make holes. It would be great to get a number of impact free agents, but I just can't imagine anyone wanted to come play for our team.

Man...this has been a crappy year for football as a Longhorn and Texan fan.

The only thing missing is WINNING. WINNING BRINGS EXCITEMENT period.

I kind of think that after this season, and today especially, Bob McNair will want to take a more hands on approach to the draft. Part PR campaign, and part football decision, and in order to generate excitement once again, the Texans might take Peterson. That would not be the end of the world because an excellent running game can mask other weaknesses. But whatever the Texans do, do not trade up for him!

Personally I would put myself in the Joe Thomas camp, but he will be gone, in all likelihood. The line has never been properly assembled and some steps were made this year, but it is not enough. And the Texans desperately need Charles Spencer to be healthy next season. And all of that is completely irrespective of who is taking the snaps.
