50 new plays?

Did anyone else hear the interview/soundbite with David Carr?

It was in reference to Vince Young coming into town and how it would affect him. He said that (I'm paraphrasing here) he did not have time to worry about Vince coming into town, he had way to much Xs and Os to be concerned about. They have like 50 new plays this week and he needs to concentrate on the gameplan.

Has any one else heard this?

David has been contradicting himself over this whole VY coming to town thing...

The first time I heard him talk about it he said that it was just another game....

Then today I heard him say that this game has extra meaning.....

But as far as the 50 plays....I have no clue, and I don't even think it matters.....Our offense was way more dynamic in pre-season, which is totally bass-ackward...

I thought I actual heard him say 80 plays? But its nothing unusual. Nfl teams have there basic 300-500 offensive set plays and add a average of 40-80 plays for specific weekly matchups.

'Splains why our linemen are running two or three different run plays at the same time.

how about the play where he doesn't look like a nervous suburban middle school kid playin against a bunch high school brothas from where im from....that would be nice:spy:

Kubiak's playbook is consider one of the largest in the NFL. That is why NE has a tough time with Denver. The team has the ability to look at a team and find it's weakness and use it against them. Most of the plays make use of different formations and motion in order to confuse the defense. The final play looks like plays we have been watching from the start, but to the defense it is disguised from the start.

Also the game plan never includes the entire playbook, it only includes the plays/formations that the coaches believe puts them in the best position to counter what the defense is expected to do to stop us.

I imagine that Kubiak is going to show a completely different game plan to Fishers defense then they saw last time. Hopefully making them have to think about their assignments and slowing them down a step.

He was referring to the old song "50 ways to leave your lover"!

Fifty new plays? I'm still thinking about the last 50 he installed.

The first was called "baby makes 11" - Carr takes the snap, drops back to pass, and at the first sign of trouble, immediately falls down and curls up into a fetal position.

Then we have the "pumpernickel" play - That's the one where Carr drops back to pass, pump fakes, brings it down and holds it like a loaf of bread, and then fumbles upon immediate contact with the nickel corner.

We then have the "healing hands of time" play - Carr drops back, takes too much time, and then throws it right into the defenders hand for a bat down. Awesome play!

Then he installed the "have a nice trip, see you next fall" play - This one is great. Carr takes the snap, trips all over the centers feet, and then falls. Sometimes, as a trick play, this one is combined with the baby makes 11 play.

Another beauty is the "I'll take my check" play - In this one, Carr drops back, scans the field for 0.004 seconds, and then checks down to the RB or nearest receiver within 3 yards.

Lastly, he had installed the "hot potato" play - That's the one where Carr drops back to pass, acts like the football is hot and drops it, and then is treated like a sack of potatos.

I am afraid the rest are confidential, but word has leaked of a new one this week called the "Young Frankenstein". I'm afraid I am not at liberty at this time to discuss. Well, I could tell you, but then I would have to kill you. :spy:

I want to see the play where the line gives David 3.5 seconds to throw the ball.
That would be in the first possession against the Raiders.. several times against the Jets, buffalo.... several times against the Giants, once maybe twice against Tennessee, most of both jacksonville games.... all of the Dallas game.... & that's about it.

Sarcasm is the primary language on this board i guess.

Ya know.. im not too high on Carr right now.. but the amount of sarcasm and cutting comments that he gets here makes me want to defend him. Hes a good guy, even if he isnt getting it done on the field, and threads like this accomplish nothing other than giving people a place to bad mouth our team. I could do without them.

Im all for talking about what is going wrong, and what is going right, for both Carr and the Texans, but not like this.

I guess I should tack on the obligatory "grow up" to finish of this post.

I kind of liked this comment from "Mike" on my blog today. Might not be the most articulate or accurate thing in the world, but I appreciate his heart and enthusiasm. I guess it is a matter of getting people to check themselves a bit in their desire to crush Carr:

Steph....you hit it on the head....sameh...great read....where do I begin...to the guy that said that Carr is just a Southern California boy...laid.back..and doesnt understand that football in Texas is God, and that Carr just doesnt get it.....cuz he's not from Texas....This is for you....I am 44 years old......I am the last of 5 kids....my ancestory goes back 300 years in Texas....and yet...I was the only one not born there....but every summer from the age of 8 until I was 20 was spent there....before we even had color tv....I was a UT fan....a Cowboys fan...an oilers...fan.....it didnt matter to me that I was not a resident there....my parents would drag my butt to church...and drive 40 miles just to get there...and on the way home every sunday...we could listen to the cowboys on the radio.....and eventhough I was born in Ca....my heart and home will always be Texas....Having said that David Carr was not from Southern CA......he spent a majority of his years in Fresno....before going to HS in Bakersfield....also not southern Ca...before returning to play for Fresno State.....He lived near Bulldog stadium and always dreamed of being a bulldog.....you think UT is big there....try being in Fresno...this town bleeds red.....is a very conservative area.....and is definitely not laid back.....my dad was a perfect example of what a hard working man from Texas is...and when he moved to Ca in 1961....he picked cotton here until he could get a decent job to support 5 kids...Fresno is no different than Houston...its hot.....it gets over 110 here some summers....but we live with it....and Football is second only to God in this town....maybe thats whats wrong with you guys....you have your priorites a little off...but I digress.....I watched UT games every saturday......I bought the espn package just to watch the games...and since Fresno state played at night most of the times I went to the game....and I have watched a long line of successful Qb's play the game....excluding this years......but David Carr is a legitimate NFL QB....I watched him light it up so many times that watching the bullets fly from his gun was a sight to behold...He had a great line...a line that has several guys playing in the NFL right now....and starting...one in particular Logan Mankins...starts for the Patriots and protects Bradys backside.....He had great recievers....and he had a great running game....Bernard Berrian..who starts for the Bears...but recently got hurt...was one of his favorite receivers....he tore the field up and burned so many guys 50 yards down the field for Td's and Carr rarely if ever never missed him...and when I did see Carr get stuffed to the ground...he always got back up...and kept slinging it..FSU played Wisconsin....and a lot of other teams and took it to them...and it got to the point where no one really big wanted to play us because they were afraid to be beaten by little ole FSU....

David Carr is not the problem in Houston...if anything...the owner....Casserly....and Capers.....screwed the pooch on Him. You guys have no clue as to what this guys real potential is....because He's never had the players around him to allow his talents to truly shine....but you sit there and blame it all on Him....you guys are pathetic....If Carr does wind up leaving Houston....I can only pray that He finally gets a shot to show the God given abilities that He has....becasue I tell you this....if He played for the Bears....theyd still be undefeated...and Carr would have a Superbowl ring by the end of this year.....and the next..and the next.....HE's so much better than Grossman...and Bernard Berrian was and still is the man.....you guys better hope that He doesnt go there...cause even if you got Vince Young...who is a great football player....he too would suffer just like Carr....and you'd be on the end of the losing score.

So don't blame Carr for getting rid of Aaron Glenn, or Seth Payne...or any of the guys that used to make the defense better....or the middle linebacker that they let go..or whose name I can't remember who are thriving on other teams....or for him not having an offensive line that has constantly allowed him to be stuffed.....What happened to Rothlisberger once Bettis was gone....what happened to Favre once his favorite targets left...or even his lineman....I could go on and on about this but im not..HE doesnt have the tools around him to open up the floodgates...if He did...you'd be somewhere else and not here raking him over the coals....

One last note....David Carr didnt come from riches...his folks were modest...he fell in love with his HS sweetheart....and being a Christian...did the right thing...married her and they had a son...they had practically nothing at FSU...but that didn't matter....they had each other..and God....they were poor....but they got buy..and he one day got drafted and GOd blessed Him. Currently..he's in a very dry place...struggling to survive with the rattle snakes at the door...but its ok....He's a man of great christian character...my son and I met him at a bowl game....and he invited my son in to play video games the night before the big game against Michigan State....David Carr is not God...and Miracles will not happen....until you put the pieces of a great team around him...like dallas did for Staubach and Aikman....like San Fran did for Montana....like Pittsburgh did for Bradshaw....do you get the point....I think it was last year when some ***** threw beer on his wife at a game....and disgraced the people of your great state.....I won't blame you for cheering for Young....but don't blame me if the day comes....and Carr goes to Chicago...I'll still root for you....but not on the day they play you....I've been around long enough to see teams discard some of the greatest players to have ever played just to save a few bucks at the end of their careers......the list is too long to even type...but if you guys don't battle around this young man of character...you don't deserve to have him...and I will gladly follow him to another team.....I too would like to see a little more fire out of him...cuz I used to see that so much at FSU....but after the pounding hes taken from from the other teams...and the majority of you who have no clue to how great this kid could be....I don't blame him for smiling....becasue I know that when he goes home at night....he's on His knees praying to God for help....and maybe God will answer his prayers and either get him some help..and more fans to support him....or give him another place to go....to do Gods bidding elsewhere....
