A quarterback with a 4 letter last name is getting a lot praise lately. There are a lot of avenues we could take and lets play out this option, whether it be right, or wrong, or dumb.

Lets say we keep Carr for another year. That way we could draft a QB, let him grow, and release or trade Carr the following season for what ever reason if this scenario pans out that Carr wont make it in the NFL.

This is meant to be a trade Carr by any means necessary and put anyone back there but him, just a scenario.

I got some questions for some of the intelligent posters on this board that dont let thier emotions get in the way of sound reasoning...

What round/pick do you think he is going to go?

Is he worth the pick to have him come here and play in Houston if we were going to draft a QB?

If we are going to draft a QB, should we try for a better prospect or is he the man?

Is he just the sentimental favorite since we passed and the all powerful omnipotent Vince Young because he is also Texan native and plays for UH?

Is he the answer to get the fans back to being Texan proud? To get some fans interested again?

Lots of questions guys I know.

But this could be an opportune time get this team going. We could even bring in Plummer(I am not a big fan but hey, you know its going to happen) for that two years. Trade Carr this year while whatever value he has around the NFL(he seems to be somewhat respected around the league) for something. Chicago, Cleveland, Miami, Washington, Oakland, Baltimore, Tampa, and Minnesota could be a few teams that could have an interest in a backup that could be a potential starter.

Again, this isnt a ship David out by any means necessary and plug anyone but him in at QB thread. This is just a discussion for battering around if we could trade Carr and maybe be able to plug a hometown favorite. Its an opportunity that only comes around twice, apparently back to back.

I am a Carr supporter, but a Texan first. My dream is that he will lead us to a SB and vindicate himself and get the ultimate reward for what Capers and Casserly did to him to ruin him. I hope he still does this, but that star I am wishing on may have turned out to be a satellite in the sky.

I don't know.

I think we might look to draft a QB somewhere in the 3rd or 4th round but I think Kolb'll be gone by then.

I'm honestly not all that impressed with any of the QBs coming out this year except for Quinn and I still think he's overrated, but it's an inexact science. Maybe Kolb's the one, maybe it's Brohm. Maybe it's Colt Brennan down the road.

Maybe JaMarcus Russell will suddenly "get it" and be The Man.

Or not.

Its not hard to see which way I voted.

I think he would be a perfect fit here. He can sit for a year while Carr gets his final chance next season and learn the ins and outs of the NFL. He plays in a system at U of H that is similar to Kubiaks filled with short to intermediate passes and has the arm strength to succeed at the next level. On top of that, he is a hometown guy (I dont care about Vince Young) and I think the city would rally around him.

I like Kolb very much and I think he will be a good QB at next level on a WCO team. He has all the intangible that Carr lacks but his arm is very average.

Despite that he is worth taking in third round grooming him for few years.

To answer each of your points....

What round/pick do you think he is going to go? Right now they have him pegged at either late 3rd....early 4th. HOWEVER, if he plays how he did last Friday for the LIBERTY BOWL and Senior Bowl, then it wouldn't surprise me to see him shoot up the way CUTLER did last year. It's in his hands (literally)
Is he worth the pick to have him come here and play in Houston if we were going to draft a QB? Hard to say. Many thought David Klingler was going to translate well into the pros...so, it's anyone's guess, unfortunately.

If we are going to draft a QB, should we try for a better prospect or is he the man? Right now, many have Quinn, Smith significantly above KOLB....but I have my doubts there will be a big gap by the time the draft is here. KOLB performed VERY well with weak talent around him. Not unlike what we'd need from him.

Is he just the sentimental favorite since we passed and the all powerful omnipotent Vince Young because he is also Texan native and plays for UH? Many of those REALLY upset about not taking VY were UT supporters and/or grads. If the goal is to appease them, you'd need to draft as follows : CB Tarell Brown RB Selvin Young DB Michael Griffin DB Aaron Ross OT Justin Blalock DE Tim Crowder and PROMISE to draft Colt McCoy in 2008 (which I believe is his 1st year of eligibility since he redshirted last year).

Is he the answer to get the fans back to being Texan proud? To get some fans interested again? Unfortunately, even though KOLB has played in HOUSTON and is a Native Texan, U of H-supporters don't voice their opinion (or likely care) as much as UT and A&M fans. There just isn't that passion for a commuter school like U of H (this was true even when we were Nationally ranked in the late-80's & 1990. Not until this past Friday, have fans of U of H really showed their support in full-force (largest crowd ever of 31,818 at Robertson Stadium).

With ALL of that said...regardless of how this season ends...I have COMPLETE confidence in Kubes and the Crew to get this draft just as right as they did last year. Maybe they'll even call on ole' Dan Reeves to get some "outside" perspective :mario2:

I voted yes. I am a UH fan, a UH Homer, and if he weren't a Coog I would vote no. I have my Cougar Red glasses on ... no doubt, but I don't care, at least I admit it.

Check out the link in my signature if you have a couple minutes to spare.

I am a UH fan here too and I would love to see Kolb play for the Texans. It could work out like Hakeem and Drexler did for the Rockets.

BTW I signed your petition.

I don't have any allegience to ANY team in Texas. Given that, I think he looks like a reasonable development type for a WCO team like us. Looks a little short in the arm strength, but that isn't as big a factor in the WCO that it is in other systems, seems to make good reads and decisions. We can't dump Carr as the CAP hit would be horrible, so bring the kid in for a 3 or better yet a 4. let him sit 1-2 years and the trade either Carr or him based on who is doing it.

I say NO. Kubiak usually keeps 2 QBs around, so unless Sage or Carr leave (which I want both to stay), then it wouldnt do much good to bring Kolb in. He's an interesting prospect, but I feel we have too many needs to draft a hit or miss prospect at a position thats only really an upgrade, not so much a need.

Kubiak carries two QBs when he already has a for sure fire STARTER

If Kubiak feels by the next draft that Carr or Sage may not be the answer and he'd like to take a guy to develop from scratch (which is the reason why he's here) later in the draft........He won't have a problem taking Kolb.

I wouldn't mind taking Kolb in the mid rd. for our future starting QB(like 4~5 yrs from now). He's got arm and able to run as well. Sounds like a fit for WCO. I think U of H will start producing quality QB in the future for NFL. U of H reminds me of how U of Miami used to be. (I think coach/s are former U of Miami) In U of H Offense, QB can put up big numbers if he does it right. This system should attracts top QB prospects from High school. So I said, we should be seeing more quality QB coming out from U of H in the future. But, who knows I am just an amateur.

kolb is good, but he's not someone you invest your future into as a rookie. if you really want a safe bet, go after matt schaub.

Matt Schaub is likely to cost a 1st round pick to get. They will high tender him which carries a 1st and 3rd with it unless someone negotiates it down and Atlanta has little reason to agree to much less.

Matt Shaub is not a garrantee fix either........he's good, but nothing is a garrantee.

What did Miami give up for Feely........how did that work out...just wondering.

For all we know Matt Shaub could turn into the next Feely. I'm not saying I believe he will, but it is possible.

At a 1st and a 3rd, its not worth the risk.

Kolb who would cost at highest a 3rd is worth the risk and is a low risk.

i voted to keep carr... im not a big fan of his but i think this year we should fix up our o-line and the holes in our defence- namely a DT,OLB,CB,FS...

then give carr another year to see if we can get anything from him as he would be in his 2nd year in kubiak 'scheme' which means the leashes may come off a bit...

if theres little/no improvement use a 1st rounder on a good rookie qb etc to start

if carr does show us something then keep him and maybe use a mid rounder on some rookie for safety

yes. franchise QB's with his potential aren't easy to find. especially young ones that have a few years in the league already. he'll be just as successful as Philip Rivers is.

Nobody knows if he's a franchise QB or not, he's not proven.

He's only started 2 games, has thrown for 5 tds and 4 ints. Biggest comp % at 51%

Feely went 5 and 1 as a starter and went for a second rd pick, guess he was a franchise QB too.

Nobody in their right mind would give up a 1st and third for Matt. Schaub.....not even Matt Millen, thats too high of a price for a unproven player.

feeley was traded for a second round pick because rick spielman is a ****ing *****.

schaub was a first rounder before an injury his senior season. he's worth a 1st rounder. or two.

Kolb would be a good 3d round pick up. He would be surprised if he went in the first two rounds since I am sure a lot of people look at him as a systems quarterback.

*cough*Kitna*cough*

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Coog (but OSU will always have priority), but I don't think their offense lends itself to producing NFL QB's.

If Kolb is ever given a chance to play, he's going to be a beast....period....

His pocket presence and poise is top notch...

I have only seen him one game. Not banging on anyone. In Kubes system ...our system...that little 4.90 after his name is HUGE. Ok... if they roll the dice on day two for the guy...I got no problem with that. But I think we gotta little coog love going on in here. Not that I mind. We go through it every year with the Horns and Aggs. I like Hickman for a WSLB, Warren runs sub 4-7, I'd have no problem with him either. Just sayin. You guys have seen him more than I have. Just think a day one pick for him is kinda high.

The bowl game against South Carolina is a biggie for Kolb. A win against them with some decent numbers could help him alot in the draft.

Yeah well that'd be good too. But I'm not going down on my knees and kiss his ring untill the guy gets into shorts and posts a sub 4.8 forty @ the combine. Kolb dodges the combine...tells me all I need to know.

From the way he ran in the CUSA championship, he runs faster than a 4.9/8 but I could be wrong. Id guess 4.7 like Carr but thats just a random guess.

Im not sure where you got the 4.9 from, but from watching him on the field, he looks as mobile as Carr. Hes not going to win any foot races, but he will be able to get away from a rush.

Keep the 1st round QB(s)! I'll take the middle to late rounder that can managed a game any day over the bloated salary of a "top" QB anyday.

Kolb has been invited to play in the Senior Bowl (Jan. 27). It's a great opportunity for Kevin to be evaluated alongside senior QBs Brady Quinn, Troy Smith, Drew Stanton, and Jordan Palmer. The NFL Network will carry the all-important practices, as well as the game.

kolb gets no attention bc he plays in conference USA. if he busts out and has a great showing at the senior bowl, i guarantee he will be a first day draft pick, and hopefully for the texans. he is a big fan favorite here in houston bc of what he did to help UH win the conference USA title. imagine him in a texans UNI. he is not vince young or reggie bush, but he will still be quite popular here and i think he will end up being a pretty good QB in the NFL.

I think the Texans will have a shot at either Kolb , Smith , or Stanton in the second .

The problem is he will not be a starter so do you gamble for a third round QB and get a player in the second who starts from day one .

I Believe that Kolb could be the steal of the draft, he has great potential to be a starting quarterback in the Nfl. Has great pocket presence and is athletic enough to evade a pass rusher to make a play. Also has great downfield vision to go long with accuracy.
Here are some of his stats for the 06 season.

Kevin Kolb

i really like kolb and think he has great sleeper potential. i think he's gonna go at the earliest in round 3. don't see him going in the 2nd. i'd like him to be drafted and just sit on the bench and learn for a few years. i'd much prefer the texans sign a solid FA (mainly matt schaub) and either let carr start for awhile or just bench him entirely and let the FA takeover while kolb learns. i don't think kolb can produce right away. he is very smart and can learn and be ready in 1-2 years with proper training.

i believe kolb is invited to the senior bowl. he can put himself in the first round if he plays well enough.

I hope we draft Kevin Kolb because he's the next David Carr:gun:

LOL. I do think he's got talent AND pocket awareness however. Does anyone have a scouting report on him or a recent article? I saw one on ESPN I think it's by Mcshay but it's an insider. I'm not sure if you could post insider stuff here. thanks a lot.

By the way I'm new here and think this is a great site. I've been blogging at another website and noticed more people blogging about the Houston Texans and the NFL draft here which is a topic I really enjoy reading about.
