I've been a Carr supporter ever since he came into the league however, Im not going to defend him so valantly until he proves his worth. Im not going to bash him because he has the skills but its time for him to do something consistantly for once.

I just hope we have a resolution to the issue of David Carr's furture
with the Texans during the upcoming off season. One way or the other.
But I dunno, somehow I have a feeling it won't be that cut and dried.

I think Carr needs to get the idea that our defense is actually kinda good. So he only needs to get the offense 21 points per game and we will win more than half. However he hasnt done that yet. I love Carr but he needs to prove himself.

Without an O-Line. Without a running game. Some of you guys are funny.

Here!!!! Here!!!!:piano:

I wanted him to show a little more progress than he has thus far under Kubiak.

Granted our O- line sucks but 1 TD in 6 weeks is just not gettin it done.

Step it up David or hit the road!!!!!:BananaWav

Dude, if you look at the last game and aren't convinced that the offense's inability to do anything was the fault of David Carr, than nothing is going to convince you that Carr is a bad QB. Carr had a ridiculously bad game. I have been a Carr supporter all my life (still am too), but the finger points to Carr on this one. All he did was hurt the team last week. Yeah, the Oline could have played better, but was David given an opportunity to make something happen? The answer is a resoundning "YES".

You know, Aaron Brooks doesn't have a great Oline/Running game either. Maybe he's a Steve young deep inside too.

I've been off the Carr wagon since we played the Titans. Carr hasn't performed at a level equal to the opportunity that he's been provided. He has a supporting cast now. He has a tried and true mentor in Gary Kubiak, and a proven offensive system to play in. We started slow on the ground, but we have a modest run game now along with two pro bowl receivers and an up and coming tight end. We still don't have a good o-line, but it's not nearly as bad as it used to be. You can sit back and say that he doesn't have a franchise LT watching his backside, or he doesn't have a pro bowl runner taking the heat off of him, but the bottom line is that for the money we're paying him he shouldn't need all-stars everywhere he looks. We could get very similar production out of a middle of the road veteran QB and save a ton of cap to build this team elsewhere.

I don't feel badly about passing on Vince in favor of Mario, I still like that decision. That top trio of players are all going to be good players, it was a win-win situation IMO. But I will be very disappointed if we don't address the QB position in some way this upcoming off-season. Whether it be trading Carr, cutting Carr, signing a vet to compete, or drafting a rookie to compete I want to see us evaluate some different options at this point. If they want to start fresh, that's fine, I'm cool with that. If they want to keep Carr, atleast sign a vet QB a la Plummer or Griese who has some starting experience and can legitimately challenge Carr for the position in camp, and make it known that Carr's place atop the depth charts is in jeopardy. At this point in his career, Carr isn't going to see a miraculous come around, and if our FO can't recognize that and atleast act like they're looking for alternative solutions than I can see next year being a very long one for me as a fan.

Enchilada Aficionado.
i'll support whoever our starter is. if, however, there's a guy on our roster more qualified than our starter, then i may pull for the more qualified guy.

for now, Carr's our man. His play's been lackluster of late, but just wait till he guns a deep ball to andre.

Im off the Carr bandwagon too, but i dont consider myself a "CARR HATER". HATE is such a strong word. I mean its not like the guy is Ryan Leaf. The guy has the physical tools to be qb in the nfl, but i think his time in Houston is up. He will never LEAD this team to the promise land. A fresh start would be in the best interest for both parties IMO....

I think it's time for the team to look elsewhere for a QB.

Whether it's his fault or not I think the team would be better served to have a new starter next year.

"Brilliant... I have it figured out. The more money a player makes the less help he needs"

"Brilliant, lets double his salary and fire all the rest of the players on offense, that will save a lot of money. After all, we don't need them".

" It's so simple, why haven't the rest of the teams thought about this? Maybe it's because they aren't as brilliant as we are".

In the age of the salary cap that is exactly right. The more money you tie up in one position, the less money you have to spend somewhere else.

One of the reasons why the Colts have a bad defense is because they have invested almost all of their money in their offensive players. Peyton Manning is taking up a large portion of the salary cap. Therefore, he must justify his existence and produce at a higher level than all the other players on the team. He also must do it with lesser players around him because the money that could be spent on other players is not available. Finally, the hope is that his abilities make these lesser players perform better.

Because Carr is one of the highest paid players on the team, the requirement is that he perform at a high level and that he make the other people better. The Texans don't have an unlimited amount of money that can be spent on other positions. If you have a quarterback eating up a large portion of the salary cap, he better be able to produce or you get rid of him.

David Carr packs a double whammy. He stinks as a quaterback, but he is paid like a super star. The poor performance of Carr should not cost this much money.

Maybe we should hire his agent, he obviously excells at his position

Ideally, yea, you pay better players more money. A better player can do more with less, as seen by what Tom Brady does routinely with less talent than other superstar QB's have around them.

Why would we double his salary when he isn't earning what he's making now. Crappy attempt at sarcasm, especially since you're countering with my main point.

It is simple, and alot of other teams have figured it out. Look at all of the teams that win with defense and a power run game.

On the topic of this thread, I'll admit that the performance against the Raiders on Sunday shook the hell out of me, as I am a David Carr fan. But I'm going to give him so more time, I think that if we can clean the team up and get everyone healthy at the same time, we can go places. If, say next season, this happens, and we are still losing games, I'll give Carr another thought, until then, I'm sticking to the wagon.

Whoever said without a running game is mistaken. We could not pass the ball at all last week and Dayne still ran for 90+ yards. There were drives where all we did was run Dayne and we moved the ball down the field. Yes, sometimes our run blocking and running game in general is poor, but not as often as some of you guys are saying.

There should be threads about how despite Carr's inability to throw the football, we still manage to run the ball.

Im dont hate David Carr, he just needs to prove something. I want him to succeed and stay in Houston I honestly do however it all depends on what he is able to do on the field.

The only way we are going to have any kind of resolution with David Carr, is if we fix the OL.

The only way we are going to fix the OL is with another QB.

with that in mind, I beleive David will finish the rest of the season as the starter.

There will be open competition for the starter job in the offseason......

Carr will "win" the #2 spot.

Our starting QB is going to perform better, and our OL will look fixed early next year.

our starter is going to get hurt, and David is going to come in.

He's either going to save the day, or bomb....... if he saves the day, all the Carr :homer: will say, "See I told you"

If he bombs, all the Carr :homer: are going to say, "We've had injuries to our offensive line, and they aren't the same guys keeping our starter safe"

If he bombs, our third string guy will come in, and we'll find out if our OL is still broke or not.

By this time next year, we'll have an answer..... just be patient.

Congratulations on jumping on the Carr hater bandwagon with the rest of the so-called "fans".
hell, the "fans" in Denver, Dallas, Miami, and Tennessee seem to be happy with their QB change, nobody's calling them out. & with the exception of Denver, those teams are winning games.

Dallas, Miami, & Tennessee also seem to have fixed their offensive lines...... go figure. There aren't any proBowlers on those lines, but they at least look competent with the new QBS......

Carr has had 5 years and hasn't done anything.5 years to prove himself a worthy QB.I don't know how some of you support Carr so much when he has done so little...

Didn't stop the Jets from beating us...... or the Titans, or the Bills.....
Dave wasn't playing in the secondary in that Bills game. This entire team has found their own niche for losing games over the last two years. I swear I could feel the anger swell in my section as we watched that final drive. We knew what was about to happen. And it did.

I'll say this. What a great individual - he is everything in character you want a face of a franchise to be, and anyone who checks my post history will see I am a Carr fan.

I'll take anything to make a winning team. We really need to stay behind Kubes on this and believe his choices are correct, and remember his assessments are superior to our wishes. Carr fans or not.

With all this wagon stuff, we need a QB named "Chuck" or "Something Band".

How 'bout "Chuck Band"? :dance3:

Thanks for proving my point.

A players high salary doesn't preclude his needing help from the players around him.

Deserving that salary is a different topic altogether.

Your point? You never made one.

I meant every word of it. Posters have me convinced, Carr shouldn't need any help because of all the money he is paid.

I am agreeing with you. (insert smilie of hell freezing over)or :pigfly:

No, actually my point is:

Players with high salaries should expect LESS help from the players around them. These same high priced players should make the lesser players around them BETTER. The high salary of one player directly limits the ability of the team to surround them with talent.

Case in point is Tom Brady. Receivers come and go from the Patriots. However, they all look much better when they play with Tom Brady. His ability makes others look better than they actually are.

You cannot surround Carr with talent because it is impossible with the salary cap. But even if you did, his lack of ability makes everybody around him look worse than they really are.
