Many of you dont know this but much like you I was an Oilers fan since 1960. Where we are different I kept my allegiance to the Titans and moved from Houston to Nashville in 1999 to stay with the team................a guy on a titans website posted this paragraph and my son called me to read it...............it reflects precisely how I felt when the oilers left houston.............I am wondering if you guys could share how it affected you...............some oiler fans on our site have also posted and it really felt nostalgic to go back to those luv ya blue days and thinking back to all those great days in the dome................

I used to follow the oilers too. Started with LuvyaBlue. Putting the signs on the front lawn, running snowbirds with PA Plates off the road, the whole nine yards.

Dallas hater, not sure why. I guess because it was too easy to root for the favorite. In my youth I saw my young friends who were Dallas fans as frontrunners/bandwagonners whatever. So I loved the Oilers and Earl Campbell. Then it evolved to Warren Moon and his years here. Bottomline is Bud sucked balls as an owner and never won a damn thing. So I can't get too jacked about the good old days.
 
What King said^^^ but I will add that I stayed an Oiler's fan up through when they were a lame duck team. I stayed a fan until the day they packed the trucks and hit I-10. Once that happened, I actually gave up on the NFL, because I sure as hell wasn't going to become a cowgurls fan.

i will tell you this too..............because of the manner in which these teams are linked there are many fans even in TN who wish the best for the Texans every week except two...............I know I am one................And believe it or not I still read the chronicle everyday and follow the Texans extremely closely................I actually got some jollies at your two wins over the Jags so at times I feel like I am double dipping a bit..............

There were alot of more disappointments than good times, but could you imagine if we would have had Pastorini, Campbell,Brazille, Bingham, Childress,Burroughs, K. Houston, Coleman, Givens, Jeffries, Mc Dowell, Dishman all in their prime at the same time. Hmmmmmmmmmm nice thoughts.

well I was retired and I doubt you find a bigger sports fan than me. I live Oiler Titan football. While I never agreed with everything Bud did I think Houston politics did him wrong too. But there was no way I was bailing on a young McNair and EG. Too many bad yrs with Oilers would never let that happen. 1999 was like Nirvana for a man like me. Most fun I ever had in my life.

Dont forget some other greats, Munchak, Matthews, Harvey Salem, Whiteshoes Johnson, Bethea, and more.

Who was that DE that we traded for from GB that did pretty good too? Wasn't his first name Sean something?

Sean Jones was a Beast, Remember Don Hardeman on SP, don't think anyone to this day hit or hits people that hard. I remember being at a HOU-PITT game and the returner for Pitt got to the outside at about the 30 and then POW, like he hit a brickwall, needless to say he didn't get up to quick.
 
Bud wasn't ever going to give up the name or colors, so it's a moot point.

I was angry for 5 years without football, but if anything it made me more of a fan of the game.
Has increased my passion for the sport and taught me to support the team the football gods have bestowed upon us.
I can live with the down years and bad moves.. ever team has to go thru it.
Some just go thru it longer, but it makes it sweeter...

How has it turned out for Oiler/Titan fans? :crying:

he is fine..............I left TN yesterday to come here and he had no limp but he was hooked up to the piezo electric machine.............he is very very excited this week............told me he has 500 tix for the game..............Mack Brown and the UT trustees will be there I hear as well.............Bud has invited a ton of folks as well...............

one yard short was still the best yr of football ever..............that run through the playoffs...............was AMAZING......................any Oiler fan would have just cried over the Music City Miracle payback to the Bills..................nothing ever tasted sweeter to an old dog than that.............and beating Jughead with Edge at home was beautiful................and the pounding the Jags for a third time at their house after they dismantled the fins the week before 62-7 was orgasmic.

Just when we, meaning the Oilers were getting on track, they started that other league and ruined the dang draft for many teams. They took big time players like Jim Kelly and Hershel Walker. Wasnt that the USFL or something league? Man, talking about a stroll down memory lane...

We even had a Heismen trophy running back at one time...

the USFL's Houston Gamblers... Watching Jim Kelly run the Gamblers offense..Boy that was fun!!

Yeah Mike Rozier from Nebraska, was a pretty good talent. Used to go to Gamblers games and watch Kelly, That guy was awesome. IIRC we had Sanders too that went on to be an outstanding reciever for the skins

Bucky Richardson (Oiler and Aggie Cult Hero)

He wasn't a player, but he ran on the field after kickoffs and got the tee. Mojo is what everyone called him if I remember right (I was real young back then).

I really wanted that league to succeed because, as you mention the precision of that particular version of the run-n-shoot was awesome. It was an exciting and aggressive league.

Did you notice that Jim Kelly gave props to Houston and the Gamblers when he was inducted into the Hall of Fame?

Man, I can't believe everyone's leaving out the one and only Curly Culp. Don't forget about Carl Mauck either.

I still can't think of that bo-legged corner (maybe safety), that could hit a ton.. I think he wore #23 and made it to the pro-bowl in his rookie or second season...

The greatest day as an Oiler fan for me was the day we limped into San Diego with Giff and Rob instead of Kenny and Earl and the defense took down the vaulted Air Coryll attack. Vernon (I forget) got 3 or 4 picks with one arm in a cast. 1979 playoffs. The peak.

Like a kid named White that ran like lightening and Highsmith and Mike Barber and Rob Carpenter and on and on...

But the Houston Gamblers were one of the most exciting football teams I have ever seen... No D, but they just pure down and out, just put the points on the board and dared you to match them. What a scoring machine they were...
 
The truly sickening part about Bud Adams is it seems he learned his lesson about being an impetuous ass with his Head Coaches. He made the worst choices for head coach and would flip em like a burger at Wendy's. Now that's he's gone, stability reigns with Fisher. Figures.
 
Hey Bongo thanks for starting this thread it has brought back some good memories and a smile to face when I think about them.To the young Texan fans hang in there when the times are tough(NOW) because when this thing turns around it will be worth the tough times. Believe me when I say I never want to have to go without an NFL team again. Winning or Losing.

King.... Funny you mentioned that game. That was one of my favorites too. We weren't supposed to have a chance in haites yet Carpenter had arguably his best day as a pro along with Giff...

Gave me chills remembering that one!

But didn't the taste of victory seem much sweeter after all the bitterness we had to taste to get there as Oiler fans....

If we could have only knocked that dang door down through Pittsburgh...
 
As a titan fan I feel a lot of empathy with the Texan fans. I know how bad it must have felt to see Eddie George and Mcnair leave and then go to the Super Bowl. I also can imagine how it felt to have a team you worship leave because of a jackass owner. In the AFC South I hate the Jaguars, respect the colts, and pull for the Texans. It's hard to hate the colts. Peyton is beloved here in Tennessee, and Dungy is as good a man as there is in the NFL. But I really hope you guys turn it around in the next few years, because you guys have had enough heartache in regards to football. That said I still hope we win this weekend :P

No, there's none of that feeling for me. I'm a young 21 years old, and dont have many fond memories of the Houston Oilers. I only recently started to get into the sport at all. I don't feel like a jilted lover, or have a mental inability to fully give myself to the Texans. Anyone who cheers for a team that went 2-14 last season I would say has given themselves to the team. There is no regret, or sorrow, only the hope of what our young team will be. Go Texans, Beat Titans.

Some of us have been here before and know what can and will happen. It's not going to happen overnight. A few smart drafts and a great trade here and there and soon, there will be so many on the bandwagon, we will need new mules to pull them around...

So to you young grasshopper, I say hang in there and have patience...

Good things are in the future, but not overnight...

I stopped being an Oiler fan when Bud announced they were leaving. Before that I had watched them through thick and thin. And I quit watching the NFL during that period too. I didn't even watch the super bowls. I did see the end of that Titan superbowl due to the fact that my kids were at a SB party and I was anticipating having to pick them up. Very satisfying.
 
I lived in Hou and pulled for the Oilers for years. Then I moved to Nashville while the Oilers were still in Hou. I had to suffer for years trying to catch my boys on the TV. Which was hardly ever.

So, when the news came that Nashville would be the new home for the Oilers I was torn. Wow...I live in Nashville, but this is my home team.

Needless to say I live in Hou again.. But I follow the Oilers/Titans now. To me they are still the Oilers.

And it's funny the hardest thing for me to get over was the name change. I knew Nashville wanted to change the name, but I was fighting to keepOilers as the name. Heck I even signed petitions to keep them as the Oilers.

Bud Adams could give a rat's arse about this city!!! He has removed all mention of the "HOUSTON OILERS" from record books, from the Football Hall of Fame, from anything that he can remotely tie into this city.

The Houston Oilers Are Dead!!

They are a memory to this city, but that's all they are now. WE - Houston - celebrate our city's football history by having a homecoming game every year and giving us a chance to meet our football greats. Nashville has NONE of those memories, and they are NOT theirs to have!

What a slap in the face (or punch in the gut!) with regards to our history and records set as Houston Oilers, but there it is, George Blanda with records as a "Tennessee Titan"!!! wooohooo! Historical revisionism at it's finest (or lowest, IMHO!)

It's sad, it's disgusting, and has me fuming at that fat, rat skin wearing jerk Bud Adams. He'll never be welcomed in this city again as far as I'm concerned. He made his point, and now it's time to move on as fans.

The Tennessee Titans are NOT the Houston Oilers.

I love the memories of the Houston Oilers.

I HATE the Tennessee Titans.

They have now moved into my number one spot, above the Cowboys even. Matter-of-fact, the fire of hatred towards the Titans makes my former hatred of Dallas look like a mild case of heartburn. I merely dislike the Cowboys now, because there is no room for hatred of any other team.

became a lighting rod for distraction and it got old..............JTB and Oman let it get out of control so I just bailed and went elesewhere...........it seems to have made a difference there................but I do miss discussing things with Code CTF and others................I think after the season is over I put my toe back in and talk draft.................Draft is my life and this yr looks to be a solid one all the way around.

So outside of our memories and some aging NFL Films clips, where do the Houston Oilers "live"? idonno:

Earl Campbell said he was never a Titan and never played pro ball in Tennessee. Yet record books indicate he set all of his career records as a "Tennessee Titan". Do you find that acceptable? It disgusts me.
 
I am one of those that felt jilted by the move of the Oilers. I have hated them for abandoning us ever since. CTF is right though, there is a void that still exist. I will say that my whole hatred of the Titans has been tied to my loyalty to Houston. Honestly, I am getting tired of feeling this way. I will NEVER root for that organization as my team again, however this hatred can't be good for my health. This whole Titan/Oiler/Texan situation has been becoming too stressful for me. I thought once Houston got another team I would be over this but 5 years later and it is actually getting worse. This season with the whole VY thing, so many Houston fans, and fans here in Austin jumping on the Titans bandwagon and hating the Texans has become too much for me. The other night I was so p*ssed about this whole situation that I couldn't sleep. Even when the Oilers were at their choking worst I never felt this bad. I sometimes think I need to just stop the whole thing and stop caring about Houston AND the Titans. I haven't lived in Houston for over 20 years and have lived in 4 other NFL areas since. I think I just need to move back to New York and only root for the Giants or I will be visiting a therapist soon.
