The most important game of Carr's career

Señor Stan

El Guapo
I not much for hyperbole, but this weeks game against the Titans is the biggest of Carr's career. He needs to play the game of his life and "lead" the Texans to victory.

He also needs to hope that the "D" has his back again this week and can stifle VY.

There are some in the anti Carr camp who will never be swayed no matter what happens, but this this game will more than likely move people off the fence one way or the other.

I wish Vince the best of luck in his career, just not this week.

Go Texans!

Excellent post. I have been behind Carr for the entirety of his NFL career; however, it is time for him to step up or down. He CANNOT lose to VY at home this year - period.

This should be the most interesting home game we have had in years.

In reality, this is just like any other game but I think we all know deep down it is not, at least not for Carr.

If Carr does not have a good showing and Young does even though it is not fair Carr will be done at the very least with the fans.

I hate the Titans, and I can't comprehend why any Texan fan would root for an imposing player on another team. But this is what is happening so I guess they only thing I can do is hope the Texans destroy Young and the Titans and Carr has a great day.

Go Texans!

Senor I love the Avatar - an all time great movie and that line is just perfect.
I can just see Kubes saying that and "don't you eyeball me boy"
Perfect - I needed that laugh this morning

My man Stan, not only knows avatars, but he aslo knows destiny. Carr's gotta make this game work. Anything less than a solid victory will not set well with the Texan natives. I'm a Carr fan, but I'm first and foremost a Texans fan.

Go Texans!

you are correct.

i have to agree. lately, this offense has been bad, but blame the offensive line if you want, but i think carr has alot to do with the way things are going for him. he is going to have to play a great game next week coming off of his 30 some yds passing not factoring the sack yardage. everyone is quick to blame the o-line bc they are indeed the ones that have to protect carr. however, i think its hard when teams blitz constantly bc carr never burns them. if carr was stepping up in the pocket and consistently completeing passes for 10+ yards every time they blitz, then they wont bring as many rushers, making the o-lines task easier. carr is just going to have to man up and make plays next week....and not let vanden bosch get in his head. you know vanden bosch is going to want to have a big game as always, so carr is going to have to man up and stay in the pocket.

Not really. What he needs to do most of all, is not fumble the ball and don't throw interceptions. I would imagine kubiak will continue to play very conservatively, especially with how he uses Carr. A very average, but mistake free kind of day is what we need from DC this Sunday.

but i hate this conservative *****. i mean, we are 4-8! why cant we just cut these guys loose so we can salvage some fan support!? seeing as how we have 4 wins and are going nowhere, why not play aggressively. its the only way u are going to keep fans interested and the only way u will really figure anything out about the potential of this team for next season

I agree Carr needs to step up in the pocket more, or even step to the side sometimes but honestly in the raiders game there was NO POCKET to step up into he got the worst protection he's got all year in that game. and the recievers were covered more often than not. andre knows how to find the soft underneath spot in the cover 2, he needs to learn how to find the seams also. eric winston needs to play guard until he gets his assignments and reads straightened out, he got blown up several times yesterday.

I agree that in order to win the GAME, this is the recipe for success.

To win the FANS David needs to do something special.

I would settle for a victory, but given the climate of most posters this week, a win is not enough.

Agree with Stan, very important game for Carr. And unfortunately Vince has two aces up his sleeve that David doesn't; a dependable running game and line that gives you more than 2 seconds to throw. Saying that David needs to overcome this and win or he will be as popular as Bud Adams in the Houston Area.

It's going to be ugly at Reliant next week. I think at least half the stadium will be double-crossing fans who will be rooting for the Titans (i.e. Young). Carr will have a hostile environment in his own house!

I'd like to see DC rise to the occassion...he is our QB, after all....but I would not be surprised if he tries too hard and comes out flat, too. It's one of those perplexing questions that is born from the inconsistent.

Hopefully Texans fans will support this team and give them a homefield advantage this week.

At the very least, the Texans need to win this game. Carr needs the win and a respectable showing, or the Carr bashing will only get worse. I'm not a Carr basher, but I at least realize that.

Not only do I not think he's capable of leading us to greener pastures, but he'd have to do a lot of leading to reverse this "Carr sucks" mentality....

Agreed. I think it's already over for Mr. Carr. This upcoming game might be the biggest of his career, but likely only because he needs to have a good showing so we can shop him around the league. The time for showing what he's made of is over. It's time to move on....

All i can say is i wish him the best, i don't think he can win with his habits and the lack of talent around him...........:shoot: might as well come out bangin

Carr is going to have to deal with Vince Young fans as well as David Carr haters. About 2/3 of the stadium will be against him.

I plan on having some buddies join me. My kids stay home for this game. One game of the year I am going to let loose and have a couple of pops. Haven't done that all season. Who wants to bet David Carr gets wind of some of this hate and comes out with an attitude and plays better? I like what Kubiak is doing with him. Challenging him and giving him the business for the rest of the team to see. That fires up guys that Gary aint putting up with this BS.

When looking at the 2006 schedule at the beginning of the season I circled two games that would either make or break Carr in the city of Houston, the Dallas game and the upcoming game against the Titans. However VY started earlier than planned and Carr went to Nashville and got hammered, went to Dallas and got crushed.

After watching Carr throw for negative five yards is yesterdays game I don't see any evidence why this week should be any different for Carr.

I, TEXANRED, am just about done with Carr. I have taken all my Carr belongings and have thrown them into the fireplace, doused them with gasoline and have struck a match. To me, this is Carr's last chance.

I have done nothing but support Carr over the last 4 1/2 years and all he has done is let me down. I am tired of losing. Its not like this was the first time that Carr has put up such dismal numbers. Heck, I think even Kubes has lost faith in him. What did Carr attempt in the second half, 3 maybe 4 passes?

Carr is not a winner. He was in college but he is not now.

But then again thats just my two cents.

Carr is going to have to deal with Vince Young fans as well as David Carr haters. About 2/3 of the stadium will be against him.

man what a scenario, this is absolutely the worst situation for carr to be playing in, management should be slapped in the face for letting this happen....2/3's of the entire home crowd will be against him, i really believe this... he doesn't deserve this, i myself am a vince fan(UT/live in austin), but carr has been a soldier throughout it all, we all have to at least give him that.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UC_1U7xgAeY&eurl= eye of the tiger man good luck

You kiddin' me? Do you actually think the anti-Carr crowd would buy into anything he did?

He could go Dan Marino on the Titans D, then finish up with a Doug Flutie finale, but at the end of the day he is still David Carr, and some people hate him just for that fact. It's disgusting.

Honestly I feel we only have one more year of the Carr debate left..... then it will be some one else. then the new QB will be behind our o-line and the debate will continue.

I love this mentallity, " Let's bring in another young gun and see how many hits he can take before we look for another, and another and another". Get a life ! No O line, no good QB play, very simple. Carr was sized up and hit with the crown of the helmet under the chin on the fumble/sack, and I know the rest of ya'll can take that hit and hold onto the ball, MY @**. No penalty, no fine, and we can't beat the Raiders and the Refs, Janacowski lost it for the Raiders. Everyone should be mad as Hell that the Refs treat us like this on a regular basis. Instead everyone wants to talk about VY, when it's the Titan defense that's winning the games, the Colts scored how much yesterday? Our O line is bad, and that's being nice, and that is the beginnig, middle and end of our problems.

Oh, I understand. I honestly would not have felt bad at all if Carr had been pulled in that game. To me it was Titans game #2. Good thing our Special Teams bailed us out.

The fact is that the biggest voice on this board is anti-Carr, that is why I direct it at them. Many fans could care less, as well.

So the offensive line and the refs are the reason Carr is so bad. I knew about the offensive line, but had no idea that the refs were against him too. Thanks for the insight.

Did you see the hit ? That LB had three free steps, no lineman in sight, then put his head down, and hit Carr with the crown of the helmet, That is a penalty, of course through the eyes of a hater that has no real football insight, as long as it was on Carr it's okay, Right? Tell you what, you tell me who your favorite QB is right now, and if we are lucky we can see your insight into the game. One more thing, if you hate the team so much, go heckle elsewhere.

Hitting the quarterback is still legal in the NFL if it's not helmet-to-helmet or at the knees.

As Coach Kubiak states in his post-game interview "all I can say is there’s no excuse for putting the ball on the ground. If we don’t protect well and you get hit, you have to protect the ball. He knows that, and that’s the way I coach him." If you want to keep making excuses for him, it's a free country, but if an NFL coach tells me it's inexcusable I'm going to take his word for it over yours.

I don't hate anyone. I just want the Texans to be a successful team and state my opinions on what they should do to make that happen. And in my opinion their first move should be to part ways with Davie Franchise because he has been a complete failure.

BTW... My favorite QB (the one that I root for) is whoever starts for the Texans.

TL13, the fans Carr would win back are the ones like me and my family, not the haters. We are Carr fans, but even we see it's time to do something.

My sentiments exactly.

This game is as close as David Carr has ever been to a playoff game. He must man up under the pressure and get results. He stunk it up during the 1st loss at Possum Holler. He CANNOT repeat that perfromance in this game. He just can't. If he gets off to a slow start, the boo birds will go Philly vs. Santa Claus on him.

I predict that Carr chokes.....I know I sound like a Carr-hater (i am), but I've never seen the guy step up when he has to....on the other hand you have got to believe Vince is going to bring his A game, because he always does in the "big" games.

Does anybody here really believe that the Texans can afford to replace Carr? We desperatly need a running back, 2 corners, a saftey, 4 offensive linemen, a fullback, a punter, and a FG Kicker in the off season. how can we fill those spots and deal with his new contract cost? If you compare each player on the team to thier respective positions in the league Carr is way down the list to replace. and if you did, who would replace him? and how would you get him here?

Seems unlikely to me.

After watching his incompetence for 5 years, how can you not afford to replace him?

Yes, we would take a cap hit. The good news is that we should have paid down some dead money from a few other ridiculous contracts (Gary Walker, Todd Wade, etc.) Plus, the cap is going up another $5 million or so for 2007.

If Carr is not our QB of the future (and it's obvious to most of us he is not) then we need to try and find that guy either in the draft or on the free agent market.

Absolutely we can afford to replace Carr. What's more we can't afford not to replace him.

That's going to become very evident in the next four weeks as the wheels finish coming off of this thing.

Do you see any free agent QB's coming up that would be better? What round pick do you think we should spend on a QB, with all the other huge holes we have... This team cannot afford not to replace at least 3 offensive linemen, a running back and a punter. Our O-Line has been pathetic for 5 years, when do you suggest addressing them?

I hope we let another guy play out the rest of the season so you guys will see how bad anyone will look behind this line. Look at the history in the NFL and find any QB who had a winning season with a bad O-Line. It can not happen, The O-Line makes or breaks the QB position.

The O-Line makes or breaks the QB position.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard today....

The O-line gets a real bad rap around here, and I'm not so sure that a lot of you know what you're talking about or whether you are just repeating what seems to be popular....From reading a lot of comments on the board I can tell that most people know little to nothing about the O-line....You see a guy sacking the QB and assume that the "line sucks"...

Carr caused atleast....keyword being atleast.....2 of those sacks....

I don't care what O-line Carr plays behind....His pocket presence is horrible....and he is the type of QB that frustrates his O-lineman...

I don't know about people that think it has to be one or the other.

Personally I think the o-line is as bad as the QB. I also blame a lot of the o-line problems on how this coaching staff constructed it and responded to injuries. Finally, I think our o-line and our QB combine to make each other worse.

I don't think any of the Texans' problems are one dimensional.

Of Course....You were my vote for most realistic fan remember.....

I don't think that the O-line is great, but I don't think they're as bad as most are making them out to be...We definitely need some quality players in that area....But the injury bug has hit our OL hard...We aren't as many players away on the OL as some think...IMHO, all we need is 1 more starter, and our line will be o.k....

Right now we are only playing with 1 guy who started the season as a starter....

We are playing a back-up RT,RG(?),C, and LT.....and still their ineptitude isn't as bad as Carr's....

Ok. Then lets look at the line a different way. Who on the O-Line would you say is better than average? Who even rates as average? Who was a top prospect comming out of college? Anything?

Carr is responsible for fumbles, not being slammed to the ground some 300 plus times over the past four plus years. He has shell shock. Mark my words. If we do not improve the line he will depart us, go play in another city and be reborn again just as Joey Harrington. GUARANTEED!!
Pocket presence?
He doesn't have time to develop that either. Especially this past sunday. I've never seen a pocket disingrate as fast as that. I agree with Dantem. ADDRESS THE LINE or it doesn't matter if you pull the John Madden SIX MILLION DOLLAR QB out of the MNF closet, piece togther Elway, Aikman, Montana, Farve ,and Manning all rolled into one. They ALL has solid lines at worst. Without them no one would have sung their praises...period!
FIX THE LINE OR LIVE IN THE CELLAR!

DEFENSE AND SPECIAL TEAMS GET A GAME BALL! IMO

Lets see...
http://www.houstontexans.com/team/roster_detail.php?PRKey=218
Ephraim Salaam - Old guy, Playing with bad ankle, bad knee, damaged ribs, has been more than several times pushed back into david CARR for a sack in the last 4 games.

Chester Pitts - Does well in run blocking, but against the raiders he was run over in pass protection.

Fred Weary - He is the best we have, and he is average at best.

Eric Winston - He might get better, but the coaches refused to play him all year until there was no one left. and right now he is horrible in pass protection.

Steve McKinney - Aging, and for some reason they will not let him start even if there is no one left to play. http://www.houstontexans.com/team/roster_detail.php?PRKey=76

Drew Hodgdon - Jury is still out, but his first game this year he was beat badly.

Please correct me where I am misinformed.
Are you trying to say we have good pass protection?

There seem to be others on this board who refuse to admit that most of our team sucks. and instead take the Homer approach and try to blame the QB.

Example: Punter, FG Kicker, The whole defensive backfield, O-Line, Running back, Fullback.

Name one of these players that is playing his position better than Carr is playing his.

It's easy to buy into the bulls**t , but getting rid of your QB for another punching bag will not fix the team. It's going to take several years.

Great post. I would give you Rep but I've used it all for the last 24 hours.

1) I forgot. I see a lot of people who see it as one or the other though. Very irritating. I just hooked onto your post.

2) I don't know - they are pretty inept. I think the coaches have a lot of responsibilty there too.

Kubes even said that DC went AWOL because of the sacks the oline gave up. That being said DC needs to hang on to the ball he had the ball away from his body holding it with one hand so those are on him well except the one he got jacked up on ouch. This oline does not give him that much time to throw I have noticed on the sacks that he held on to the ball to long he was looking down field but given the time he has he has to check down before he gets smashed. Now is DC the future for this team I do not know and neither do some of you experts one thing is for sure he will play the rest of the year and I would not be surprised that this learning curve he is on will make him a better QB next year and could be a good QB. The one thing I do know is you are allowed your opinion if you hate him or if you hope he can pull out of the funk and be the QB we had hoped he would be when we drafted him but I am a Texans fan DC is TEXANS like it or not so I will pull for him as long as he wears that uniform and that goes for all of them Dayne as well. So call me a homer if you like I really could careless and will not lose sleep over it but to think this team was going to the playoffs this year or even next well you did not think long enough so give him a some credit to the fact that out of every person who has wore this uniform DC is one of the few who has gave his body up for it and continues to get up and play.:texan: :homer: :)

Carr is toast. I don't care who the QB guru is. He's maxed out. Shell shocked what ever. They've lost him mentally and he ain't coming back untill he gets a couple of seasons on the pine. ? There are only so many shots one guys got to give. What ever DC had in the bank is gone. Now which of you DC haters is going to help Uncle Bob with the sixteen million Ballance ? Inquiring minds want to know ? The only thing I'm really upset about, the teams fifth draft...and there are still people on the board who want to draft Running backs and safties in the '07 draft. By God how many QBs gotta be sacrifced befor the o-line gets fixed ? How many years ? 610 Guys really gave DC a roasting over. I'd like to see those two little sexually gender challenged gentle men paly a couple a series be hind that o-line. I mean I know they are really hot for Vincent , but good greif. Loved Tillman counting to 4 when the video is on slow mo. Brillant. This town loves to hate it's QB s.

Other than Vince Youngs family in the stands, I don't want to see 1 single Texans fan boo a Texan player and praise the QB on another team. Pathetic closet Titan fans should go on over to www.titansonline.com and manlove Vince Young, this is Texans country.
