Marcus might be the one to bolster the weak Texans secondary via the draft. He is 6' 1" 205 big and strong for a cover corner with blazing NFL quality speed (timed earlier in the offseason during a NFL training day @ 4.31). Teams throw away from him (I can buy the same arguement with Landry) so his stats do not refelct his value to the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Their next game is Saturday against Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La. not sure if its televised or if someone who posts here on this board will attend the game. but I sure hope the Texans send a scout his way to evaluate his potential and bring him out to Relient for a personel workout before the draft.

McCauley was rated as the #1 CB by a lot of people in the pre-season but he has been beaten pretty bad this year.

Teams started the year by just staying away from him but now he is just another CB.

Probably not even a 1st round pick anymore unless a team weights his 40-time too heavily.

He has looked really bad in actual gameplay this year. He is an amazing physical talent, but has not showed that on the field this year at all.

That entire team has looked bad this year. Must be something in the water.

That said, McCauley's upside remains huge - you can't teach 4.31 speed - and his performance this year (along with the rest of the underachieving Bulldogs) should drop him in the draft so he could be a steal.

He's still not the best player coming out for Fresno State; that honor goes to Kyle Young, a monstrous center who plays meaner'n Logan Mankins did. Whoever gets him gets a fixture for 12 years.

Other players from Fresno State who might be worth looking into come the 2007 draft:

Dwayne Wright, RB
Paul Williams, WR
Joe Fernandez, WR

...and that's about it. A very disappointing season for Fresno State Bulldogs fans.

Yeah, I've had an interest in their Center since last season, and I agree on his talent. I wouldn't mind both of them in the second and third round respectivly.

I agree with that. may we please have a legit OLT prospect #1 though ?

See, I thought about that, but I believe Winston should be our LT and Spence our RG at this point. While I would love Joe Thomas or Gaither, we DESPERATLY need secondary help. I want both things and a top OLB.

I think Winston is going to stay at RT and do well with Spencer reclaiming his LT spot. We probably need a center and maybe a RG, depending on Weary. That leaves us with needs at FS, CB and OLB. I would love for us to sign either Ken Hamlin or Asante Samuel in FA, then draft to the position we didnt get in FA and a linebacker. Then pick up some depth for the O-line and maybe running back in the later rounds.

i've watched him 3 times this year. complete disaster each time. terrible hip movement for a corner. move him to safety.

The scouting reports I have read on him say he moves like he has his feet stuck in cement. He does not appear to move very well which points to him not being a target for the Texans OL.

I would look a Datish from Ohio St. He plays against better defenses and has been a leader on a successful team. He 295 and can move, has played 3 positions for the Buckeyes OL.

Buckeye Bits: Received his degree in history at the end of Winter Quarter and is currently attending graduate school ... will step in at center for graduated Nick Mangold, a first-round pick of the New York Jets in last spring's NFL draft ... has big shoes to fill but is more than capable of doing so ... has played and started all three interior line positions for the Buckeyes, including all 12 games last year at left tackle ... has 26 games and 22 starts to his credit ... was named offensive lineman of the week following the Iowa, Illinois and Michigan games last year and was the offensive player of the game after the win over Michigan State ... has been one of the Buckeyes' most consistent performers up front the past two years and has the perfect temperament for the offensive line ... should be in the hunt for postseason honors this year and could be a candidate for the Rimington Award as the best center in college football ... certainly has all the physical tools for the latter award and is a smart football player who goes the extra yard when it comes to studying film ... sat out spring ball while recovering from postseason shoulder surgery, but will be champing at the bit when fall camp opens ... a very good football player and an outstanding leader ...
....

....

Datish is almost certainly a late 1st round pick but he would be a reach at our draft spot (unless we get on a roll & win some games).

If he is there for us in the 2nd then I would not complain with the pick.

this just posted http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/

"Has everything you look for in a top cornerback from a physical standpoint including ideal size and reported 4.3 speed, McCauley is battling to be the first player chosen at his position and he could wind up being a Top 10 overall pick at the 2007 NFL Draft."

That was posted before the season started I believe.

His physical talent is unquestionable but he just isnt playing well this year.

it's a preseason analysis, and when he says "he's battling to be a top 10 pick" that means he has to play well and stand out to earn that pick. that clearly isn't the case.

I didnt read the prior posts so I apoligize if I'm just rehashing someones idea or repeating there post but I always thought his feet and hips sucked for a corner and they should try him at FS.:twocents:

Thehuddlereport has him ranked #113. That is a mid 3rd rounder. Not saying that is the final word, but show me a list that has him as a 1st rounder?

1st half not too much action for Marcus McCauley. He is a specimen, has a large NFL body for a top CB, excellent back peddle (maybe too much) gives the WR too much cushion (of course the WR he's covering [Holland] has reported 4.3 speed himself) then recovers to make the play. Does not look for contact or shed blocker very well.

To heck with McCauley; Dwayne Wright rushed for 295 yards on 25 carries including a 33yd. game-winning TD.

your absolutely right. very dissapointed in McCullughs performance, got beat deep on a 60 yd pass play late that tied the game (even though he did recover to make a touchdown saving tackle). Reminds me alot of Marcus Coleman. with a solid combine he should work his way into the 3rd rd just because NFL teams are starved for cbs but I would have to pass on him, pretty much what everybody said about him on this thread was right. http://gobulldogs.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/mccauley_marcus00.html

now back to Mr. Dwayne Wright. 6-1 220 lbs. with excellent speed for his size (would guess he is somewhere in the 4.4's) also besides burst shows excellent change of direction can run inside the tackles or take it outside. has good hands in play action or screens looks like a complete back. He is a Junior who has already said he is going to turn Pro (has wife & two kids) to support his family. could be a real steal just based off that performance alone I would give him a 2nd rd. grade. reminds me of Laurence Maroney. http://gobulldogs.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/wright_dwayne00.html

also another player who impressed me was SR WR Johnathan Holland of Louisiana Tech. Excellent speed, I would guess at the combine he will be amongst the elite burners, maybe a sub 4.3 this kid can flat out fly & stretch a defense. would not be a bad pick in the 6th or 7th rds. http://www.latechsports.com/player.php?f_name=Johnathan&l_name=Holland&sport=football&season=06-07
