What would the Texans have to do for you to be pleased with the season?

There are too many different opinions to make a poll, so you guys will just have to write your own. ;)

Be it anywhere from just win a few, to something like bench Carr, what do you guys think? Or has our season already gone too far down the drain for you to be happy with it as a whole?

Personally, I think that we just need to figure out how to win. Not to reopen old wounds so soon, but the Buffalo game was a killer. On the contrary, the first Jacksonville game-- 27-7 -- was our second best win in franchise history. We need a few more wins like that, especially late in the season, just to show our players that not all games have to end like Buffalo. I, as a fan, was finally getting over the mentality of "something's going to go wrong" yesterday during the game when we came back and were up in the fourth quarter; I don't think our players are there yet. I'll be happy if they can reach that level; much less, I think, is a slight disappointment.

Unless Mario and Demeco can whip some *** from here on out
:superman: :mario2:

If we can play more than one solid game, the WHOLE game, i will be satisfied. I just want to see us take a lead and hold it till the final whistle blows. That or have us pull out a close one/have a comeback to win. we have to atleast win against the jets and the titans. I cant remember who all is left to play except that the patriots and colts are in there somewhere. If we can win just 2 or 3 more with the things i said before then i will be happy with our season. :twocents:

Ii wouldn't say I'm down on the season. Winning more games would be great, but I didn't really expect more than 4 wins this season.

i'm already pleased. outside of a few games at the beginning of the year we've played tough and close every week and thanks to an amazing draft the future looks bright!

I think if we can win two or more in a row and hold a couple of close leads/close out a game in the 4th quarter, it will be a good sign of progress. I think that with the injures we have suffered, we should be looking more toward the attitude of the team then the actual results and build for next season. All in all Im pretty happy with the season because I think we are a couple of missed chances away from a much better record and I see progress in the players and the team.

I want us to be able to close games to our advantage. I hate when opposing teams are given a chance to come back. Increase the scoring minimizes the chance of someone coming back to beat us.

Yeah, and we have to absolutly control the ball in the last two minutes. You can't give it up like that.

How about we win the games we're in position to win? If we win the game in Buffalo (like we should have), the game against the Giants(we were real close and could've won that game had we stopped them on multiple third downs), and the Titans game(we come back and we should have never been down that much), we're 6-4. I'm not looking at personnel changes, we just need to finish off games.

Beat Oakland, Tennessee, and Cleveland and I would be semi-content going into the off-season. I don't care if it's Lionel Dalton, Travis Johnson, or Deacon Jones wearing that 75 jersey. Hell I don't care if it's David Carr or David Klingler under center ... just win.

Win three of the last six games. That is all. If they do not, thet need to spend money/draft on the O Line and secondary and open up the QB position in camp to be earned next year.

:mario3: Beat the hell out of Indy!!!! Get that monkey off our back. If they let Peyton play, Mario should try his best to take his smug XXX out.:superman:

I want 3 or 4 wins and to end the season on a positive note . Then have an offseason like the one we just had . If that happens we'll 9-7 next year .

I would be happy with 2 or 3 more wins. More importantly, I would love to see a team attitude change where they know they can win and not give up a game in the last few seconds. We've now won on the road - if we can put together a little string of 2 or more wins in a row to get that out of the way before next year would be wonderful.

Obviously we need more talent in all three phases of the game, so what would make me happy for this season:
1) Offense - continue to improve, but the improvement needs to translate to more points and a better flow throughout the game.
2) Deffense - although the D took a step backwards against the Bills, I think we are on the right track. Just need DB & LB help and overall depth. With that said, I would like the D to be able to "Close the Deal" at the end of games.
3) Special Teams - for one, it would be nice if we ever got Jerome Mathis, but the obvious here is, for our punter and kicker to contribute more. That means, hit meaningfull field goals when needed (regardless of distance) and I would like Stanley to be able to boom a 50+ yarder late in a game when field position is critical....

All of that, coupled with about 3-4 more wins, may just salvage the season for me.

the team needs to stop giving up leads in the 4th quarter, for me to be happy, its just happened to many times, the D has been doing a good job creating turnovers, but more would be nice to, and the most important thing, hit the QB, and get some more sacks, but hitting him more would give us some help to, as long as he scared to stand in the pocket, then the D will get some more picks

GO TEXANS:redtowel:

First, I'd like to open running lanes with better consistency than we have in the past. This past Sunday, we opened a few lanes, but most of our big were bounces to the outside, and not the cut back lanes that are common to the Denver run system.

Secondly, I'd like for that light to go off in David's head. I want clear evidence, that they game has slowed down for him.

Thirdly, I want our corners & safeties to learn to work together...... and I want our linebackers to learn how to cover..... Demeco's tip against Jacksonville, and Greenwood's(I'm not a big Greenwood fan) tip against Buffalo are encouraging.

And lastly, I want to beat the Colts, and take something away from them.... homefield advantage, a first week Bye...... something.

Play mistake-free football. If we lose another game I want it to be because the other team beat us, not because we beat ourselves.

No more Jameel Cook fumbles.
No more Carr fumbles.
No more AJ getting the ball jacked from him.

Just, no fumbles, period. INTs are inevitable, and Carr has never really had a huge problem with them. I am confident that if these guys just learn how to hold onto the ball, they will start winning these close games instead of letting us down.

Think about it.... The last three games that we have lost involved a fumble in a critical position. I am tired of it.

Easy ... win six games. I don't really care how they win them and I don't really care which ones we win or lose. If I see six wins at the end of the season, it will probably mean we beat a team or two we probably shouldn't have, and we probably lost one or two we shouldn't have. That's football. Ask the Steelers about all the losses they shouldn't have had this year.

Well, beating Indy by 3 TD's would be nice.

Except for the injuries this year, I am basically pleased with how they are doing, IF they continue to improve.
Mario looks like he is getting things figured out, and his confidence is getting better.
Carr under Kubiak is showing improvement. (I expect some flak from that observation.)
The O-Line is so beat up, it's hard to tell what's going on there, but Winston may turn out to be a "Get R Done" player.
DeMeco, Daniels, AJ, Dunta... enough said.

I guess what I am trying to say, is that we have a lot of bright spots, with the right pickups in the off season, we will be able to compete with anyone.

show continued improvement overall, win more games than we did in last seasons. Win consistently..not 1 here 1 there or lose close games too often(which worries me Titans, Giants, Bills). Show improvement statistically on Offense and Defense. I am already encouraged by 1st draft..Ryans, Williams, Spencer, Winston, Daniels..a couple more drafts like that and we could be someone to contend with. what I think would most signal what I think it would take is a game like Buffalo down by 14 you come back and WIN, or a game where offense scores consistently not every now and then. an end of season run would be nice starting this Sunday against Jets:yahoo:

In order for me to have been happy with this season we should have won those close games i had to sit there and listen to the tirade of a friend after the BILLS came back and beat us. We should have won that game and we SHOULD have won alot more games this season we just give up run out of juice or just get sooo mentally distracted that we let games go, fix that and i will be happy. You know what would make me really stoked about the rest of this season though? It would be to win out the two remaining division games especially if we find a way to beat those damed colts, and Mario ripping off both arms of MR. 6'5'' ROCKET LASER ARM himself. Oh and we have to beat oakland if not why are we even fielding a team. Just my two cents.

This might be looking a bit ahead but...

Don't overlook Oakland. Like all the really crappy teams, they're better than you might expect. That defense is pretty wicked. If their offense gives them anything to work with, that D can shut it down. As bad as we are, there are NO easy games.

Your right, but it would just add to the dissapointment because i know we are better than them i honestly think we are better than alot of teams in the NFL but there is just one thing holding us back and its the 4th quarter. So your right no game is an easy game with this team or any team in the NFL.

Thanks guys for keeping the thread clean... hehe, more than I expected to see when I checked back today ^_^

This is something I said in another thread yesterday, and something that I think is a very promising prospect for the future, and much of the reason for what I said in my first post. We don't let very many other teams beat us. They really don't have to. I think that if we start making them try to beat us, we will be able to fill up the W column a lot more; we have good talent on this team--nobody can deny that--but we have beaten ourselves much more often than the opposing team.

Agree 100% that we tend to beat ourselves more than other teams have, with the exception of the Philly game and the Colts game. I would be happy if we stop being the doormat of the NFL. When teams actually start dreading playing us.......that will be a happy day for me.

I would like the play calling to stay the same as it is in the 1st quarter. Once we get the lead the callin gets to conservative. In the NY Giants,2nd JJ,and the Bills game. We move the ball well and as soon as we hava lead everything gets locked down. I would be happy to see that in every game from now on,that would make it a happier season.

Ditto. There's just no way a new coach can come in, create a new approach, make wholesale changes, rebuild schemes and playbooks and turn you into a complete, consistent team. I don't think we're going to really start seeing what Kubiak and co can do with the Texans till next season.

We have some SERIOUS holes in our roster, but the mentality of the team is light years ahead of what it was last year and it feels like it's going somewhere now. For me that's the single biggest hurdle facing the Texans overcome already.

For me to be happy with the season we just need to continue locating the problem areas so we can figure out how to fix them, once and for all. We're doing the locating right now and what rebuilding we can, but the real work starts in the offseason. Down the stretch, all I want to see is what I'm starting to see already - a team that opponents have to respect. :twocents:

For those that have seen the move, "The Replacements", do you recall the speech that Gene Hackman gave all the players when he broke the news to the guys that the strike was over. I think it goes like this:

"You have a dangerous thing going for you all, you have got nothing to lose"

If the Texans played, with nothing to lose every single minute of the remaining games, I would be happy, regardless if they win or lose. Just play with balls of steel and get violent on the opposing team.

We need to get rid of the mental mistakes, i.e. fumbles, but compared to last year, I'm happy that the guys are actually playing hard every game and not letting a series or two kill their spirit. As long as they keep fighting till the end I'm happy, and we have to get at least 3 more victories...i can see 4, but beating the Pats and Dolts will be tough. If we beat the Dolts then I'll be happy.

That doesn't get it done

As far as what would make me happy?

1. We HAVE to beat Oakland, Cleveland and Tennessee. We're better than all three of those teams. A win over the Jets would be nice

2. I want to see some players released for stupid play. Salaam has three false starts in a game, adios. Faggins gets beat twice on deep balls, goodbye. Cook fumbles again, hello waiver wire. We're not going to win much so we might as well send messages to these players that if they won't play to win, they won't play. I think there are a few elite players in this league (we have a couple, namely AJ and Ryans), otherwise most of these guys are fungible and can be replaced by the next guy. I didn't see any drop-off from Weigert to Winston, did you? Or McKinney to Weary?

3. I want to see Rosenfels play a lot these last six weeks, so we can see what we have. I'd like to see him start next year while we develop a younger guy. DC is not going to take this team to the playoffs so it's time to move on, and stop pretending otherwise

The following is a recent Kubiak quote. I've been professing the same notion for the last 3-4 weeks. The 'baby steps' and 'patience weedhopper' crowd should take note of what the head coach is saying:

"We're not going to talk about (playing well) being progress. Progress is going to be when we start winning those games."

(1) Win at least 3 more

(2) Play to win vs. play it safe on both sides of the ball

(3) Be more physical on both sides of the ball than our opponents (it has been much better IMO over the last 4 weeks)

Please... will all the 12 year olds stop talking about how you want to bench car, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

So far I am pleased and here is why:

-We have two new offensive tackles that will be here for years to come (Spencer, and Winston) and they have both proven that they can be good players in the nfl. Unfortunate of Spencers injury but I expect these two to be our bookends of our improved offensive line, that is now running blocking better, and continues to prove in pass protection. An offensive line is built slowly, and I really see something being built (thank the lord)

-We have a leader middle linebacker who is young and I wouldn't take anyone else in the nfl over him. He makes play after play and loves making big plays and he isnt a big talker, but a big worker. Plays with his heart...i love demeco.

-Mario Williams isn't a bust and has GREATLY improved from now since week 1. Wait until next year...just wait.

-Our team has competed week in and week out...there hasn't been many blowout games and we have showed comebacks and heart and a desire to win...first season to see that.

-Andre Johnson is a top nfl receiver, and eric moulds is a consistent reliable receiver. We do not need to worry about our pass catchers any longer.

-We have a good blocking TE who is also very athletic and has made a lot of plays... oh yeah hes a rookie too.

-As a whole I would say we have the most talented rookie class in the nfl. Two good offensive tackles, the defensive roty, a monster defensive end, a good tight end, and a talented running back

-The fastest guy on our roster will be back next year...and I think he will make a difference (Jerome Mathis)

-Our #1 Running back has had a year off to rehab completely and come back at full strength for next season. He steps in in this good scheme and runs for over a 1000 next season, guarantee it.

-David Carr has a very high completion percentage, he holds an nfl record, he knows who his weapons are, and he has shown the whole city that he isnt just a pretty boy, he is a player who comes to play on sundays.

And that is why I am already pleased.

I am patient, but winning alone really isn't enough at this point...

I need a win in which I feel coming down the 4th quarter stretch that this team shows me that they have the game in hand and just get the ball with a lead and 4-5 minutes left and can run out the clock.

I am tired of that, "Oh crap, the Nachos aren't sitting too well, again" feeling when there is a critical drive. I want to know that the guys can look in the stands and say "Don't worry fans, we got this one."

until then, this team still reminds me of a young scared team.

The best analogy I can come up with is the Texans are Jason Biggs from American Pie, just can't seal that final deal. I need them to be Vince Vaughn from Wedding Crashers and just go out there and close some ass baby!

Beat Oakland, Tennessee, and Cleveland and I would be semi-content going into the off-season. I don't care if it's Lionel Dalton, Travis Johnson, or Deacon Jones wearing that 75 jersey. Hell I don't care if it's David Carr or David Klingler under center ... just win.

Ditto. Beat the teams that we should be able to beat....especially the Titans in our crib!!

Three more wins and I would call this a good season based on where we came from (the depths of Capers induced hell). For all practical purposes, this is a reset of the club to about season #2. We have some talent, a coach that seems to have it all in one sock and 07 should be a startling improvement if we handle the off season and draft as well as this years.

This is the problem. As long as we're competitive, make progress, etc etc I'm happy.

That doesn't get it done

"That doesn't get it done"? Tell me, what DOES get it done for a fan? Not accepting losses? You make it sound like the fan's attitudes have some impact on how the team is playing. Being pissed off because we're losing and taking every loss as though it's the end of the world isn't a particularly healthy attitude for a fan of a bad team and it's not going to do anything to contribute to the team's eventual success. We are NOT the athletes or the coaches. We have NO control over what happens on the field. Whether we "make excuses" for the team's performance (or for a particular player's performance) or take the attitude that no losses are acceptable are totally irrelevant. It's up to you to decide on how you're going to take being a fan of a losing team... and remember that all teams are losing teams eventually.

At this point in our franchise's existence, we have to look for silver linings. And by "at this point", I don't mean because we're less than 6 years old, I mean because we suck. Just like the Raiders, the Bills, and the Titans, teams that are not less than 6 years old. One day, we'll be a good team. And then one day further on, we'll be a bad team again. Hopefully we'll progress into a team that has more winning seasons than losing seasons (unlike the Cardinals, Lions, and Saints) but right now, we're not that team.

No question....Win more games and play with some heart....I see progress, but it's slower than I expected.

Injuries have just killed us, so it's really hard to evaluate progress...They are already better than they were last year, just my opinion.

If I had to pick something, it would be Carr...I still don't think he is playing as good as he could be...He seems immature, just a personal observation.

I think it would be kinda nice to really beat the crap out of a team this year. That Jax win 27-7 was pretty nice...but i mean 35-0 like the Patriots did to Green Bay this past week.
Other than that, I think this seasons going pretty well...at least we are in ball games..at this point...next step is to win em....maybe next year we'll be 8-8...thas my wish.
