COLUMBUS, Ohio -- For now, the BCS numbers add up to an Ohio State-Michigan rematch for the national championship. But Southern California is going to have a lot to say about that.

Michigan was impressive enough in a 42-39 loss to the Buckeyes to retain second place in the Bowl Championship Series standings released Sunday, by a slim margin over USC.

Michigan's BCS average was .926. The Trojans, who have two more games left, were at .919.

I hope that there is a rematch between MI and OSU. There would be one hell of an outcry.

Hopefully, that would bring the NCAA one step closer to a playoff.

Well, this should bring a swift and decisive end to this "Great Debate" then.

The BCS is a farce if anyone else plays than OSU-Michigan.

If USC beats Notre Dame, they will probably jump up enough to overtake Michigan. I would much rather see USC-Ohio St than Michigan-Ohio St.

I will root for Notre Dame then. I don't think USC can stay on the field with either Ohio State or Michigan.

Actually, I just want there to be an outcry period. Not having a playoff has been lame for too long. Having a playoff system would generate so much more interest in the sport. They should put in ALL the conference winners and maybe a couple of at large teams. That way everything is determined on the field.

Complete Garbage yet again from the BCS. Michigan had there chance & they lost, they should move down like everyone else would if they lost. Hell at least 1 spot. Don't give me this crap about "they only lost by 3 points". Hell if OSU doesn't give them 2 early christmas presents pretty much in the red zone they lose by at least a 10 points.

Open it up for at least an underdog to be able to have a chance to play in the NC. Anything short of a playoff is a joke. Florida, Arkansas & USC all have legitimate grips, But its computers & ESPN homers who decide who gets to play.:gun:

If USC wins their remaining games, it will be impressive imo. They have some tough last few games.

With that said you cannot discount michigan! yea they lost a game like other teams but losing by 3 to the #1 team in their stadium is more impressive than losing be 2 to Oregon St.

I guess I'm too used to being a texans fans still being impressed with a team and losing!

Agreed. They are the two top teams in the country. If tOSU would of won out last year after the Texas loss, I wouldn't of had a problem with that rematch either. If Notre Dame holds the last thirty seconds last year, might of happened. IF Arkansas wins out they've got a gripe. Don't believe they'll win out though. And if they do, they might get pushed passed Michigan anyway. We'll see.

I'm tired of seeing USC play for the National Championship and I don't want to see a rematch. I would like to see the winner of the SEC Title game in the National Championship.

would not be the worst thing in the world to ever happen- a rematch of clearly the best two teams @ a neutral site with a national audience witnessing :yahoo:

If there is a rematch and Michigan wins .... and Ark goes the rest of the way or Florida .. then either ND or USC win out who would be the National Champion ...............

Everyone would have a legit case of saying I have one loss I should be the champ.

And USC would just build themselves another fake trophy & pretend that they have won 5 in a row since they shoulda beat Texas last year.

Just keep it simple.

Could USC beat Michigan? No.
Could Notre Dame beat Michigan? No. They already lost to them
Could Florida beat Michigan? Hell no!

USC and florida could both beat michigan. and ohio state for that matter.

and i won't watch a rematch. booooooooooring. and all the ESPN hype won't make me even more inclined to watch. i'll just enjoy the other BCS games.

I mean lets be honest, Did anyone expect OSU to blow Michigan out solely because of the fact they were No. 1 in the nation? I'll answer for you, Hell no for the simple fact that these 2 teams have a 100 year rivalry 1, & 2 because all the emotion was on Michigan's side last week with the death of bo.

michigan should at least move down 1 spot off of principle alone (they lost), & i agree with the other poster above saying that it isn't fair to OSU. On a side note, did you guys see M. Hart lobbying for his team immediately after the game in the press conference? what a joke.

Anyone saying Michigan already "had their chance" is being ridiculous. The point of a national championship is to pit the two best teams together on a neutral field to decide the game. It's a well-known fact that Vegas gives approximately 3 points to each home team in a matchup... guess how much OSU won by?

If Michigan "had their shot" then USC, Florida, or Arkansas should have to travel to Columbus to play the national championship. Otherwise, no, they didn't have their shot.

The entire argument is ridiculous. It's not about moving down "out of principle." It's not about being "fair" to OSU. It's not about getting the best matchup. It's about finding an objective measure to determine who the second-best team in the country is. That's all it is. To me, having one narrow loss by 3 points at the No. 1 team in the country is a whole lot more impressive than having one loss courtesy of Oregon State.

As for Hart lobbying, why shouldn't he? I never understood any of the Ags' outcry over Mack Brown two years ago. It's an incredibly subjective and flawed system... why not do what you can to make a case for your players and your team? It's not as if voters are perfect. It's not like they watch all the games. They're not gods of the sport. They don't know everything, and as far as I'm concerned, coaches and players should make cases for their own teams. It makes perfect logical sense.

since when has everyone decided that the quality of your losses are far more important than the quality of your wins? everyone's saying michigan lost to a better team than USC and UF and arkansas.....so? let's focus on the wins here...

Michigan crushed Notre Dame who was supposed to be challenging Ohio St for the championship. Notre Dame's only loss.

They beat Wisconsin by 2 TDs. Their only loss.

They beat Penn St.

Then they lost to the best team in the nation by 3 points on the opponent's home turf.

Looks like an impressive resume to me.

I am now convinced that Michigan would win at a neutral site.

i'm not saying michigan doesn't deserve it, i'm just saying the whole "look at the loss" argument is ridiculous.

Why not just put Boise State in the BCS title game. They are undefeated, I mean that was the same arguement being used when Rutgers was undefeated; and more then a few people were saying they deserved a shot if they (Rutgers) ran the table. Oh yeah, BSU isn't east of the Mississippi River, my bad. Is Boise State in a BCS conference? If they are not that probably has something to do with the snub.

I think Michigan and OSU at this time are the 2 best teams in the country. USC lost to Oregon State who Boise State slapped around earlier in the year. No way the PAC-10 is the toughest conference in the country, as I have heard stated on some programs. Just more material for the Bowl Controversy Series I suppose.

Why is that ridiculous If you are trying to put the most deserving team in the N'tl championship ?

I think the whole "look at when they lost" argument is ridiculous....

If USC and Florida run the table then the Question SHOULD be who is the best one loss team(IMO, Michigan)...not who loss when, or whats the most intriguing match-up....

i care about who you beat, not about who you almost beat. vanderbilt almost beat michigan and florida, so what...

Exactly, The NC opponents shouldn't be decided on "style" points but who you actually beat.

& truthfully, the BCS has only put the 2 most "deserving" teams on the field 1 out of what 7 years & that was last year. Oklahoma had no business in the NC against LSU or USC that year.

You all are acting like the BCS is fair....LMAO....

Think about it...Some teams are put at a disadvantage from the get go....

If you start the season ranked 25 you are already behind everyone....

It's not about who you beat...It's about trying to get the two best teams in the title game...

And since Michigan is the next best team, they should play in the title game...

that my friend you don't know; OSU supposedly had no chance against miami b/c they were barely winning their games in conference. We all know how that turned out.

Exactly...You don't know....Thats why no matter what you do or who you pick, you'll just be guessing....

I believe that Michigan and Ohio State are the two best teams...

exactly, that's why michigan shouldn't play in the NC.

See post above.

This is the truth.

If the NCAA wants to ride the BCS horse, then they shouldn't get off of it when it suits them.

The BCS is supposed to be fool-proof. If it's supposed to ensure that #1 plays #2, then play #1 vs. #2.

Anything other than a playoff is a flawed system.

That's because our offense stunk!!

On another note, if there IS a rematch, and MI wins, what does that prove? LOL, I don't see how if you each won one game who MI could be crowned.

I hate the BCS :redtowel:

There's the rub...and the #1 reason I'm hoping for the computers to spit out a rematch because if the Wolverines win it will help to expose the BCS for what it is...a big-time money grabbing scheme that screws the fans and the majority of the schools in Division 1-A.

I wonder if the people who dreamed this crap up are the same people who run the IRS. The outcome is eerily similar.

The public outcry could help lead to us finally having a playoff system in college football.

So you expect a team that lost to the number 1 team in the country on the road by a field goal to be moved below a team who lost to Oregon State? This acctually makes sense to you? USC is not that good. They scraped by Washington and Washington State, lost to Oregon St. and struggled against Cal until the 4th quarter. I dont think there is any way they can play with Michigan, and especially not Ohio State. Florida isnt that good either. Leak has not had a truly good game in a while and they have struggled against some average teams. I think that a re-match is the only logical thing, other then acctualy using logic and having a play-off.

Why in the world shouldn't quality of loss matter? You don't care who you almost beat? That's not the point. By your logic, every team should fill their non-conference schedules with Sam Houston States and Stephen F. Austins every year. For example, if Texas hadn't lost to Kansas State and were still in this race, are you honestly saying that losing to Ohio State carries the same merit as if they had lost to Sam Houston?

If the only team that beats you is very very good, anyone with half a brain and any shred of logic knows that reflects better on a team than losing to a team that completely sucks. This is common sense.

The public outcry could help lead to us finally having a playoff system in college football.
yeah because that's worked so far.

there MAY be a +1 system implemented in the next 10 years. MAY. there will be no playoff.

when you play 12 games and you only reflect on ONE game in determining the who deserves a shot at the title, well....that's dumb.

Well picture this scenario....

If Texas wouldn't have lost to Kansas State and they win out...Most likely they're in the Title game...

If Michigan loses only to Ohio State just like Texas they are out of contention because of when they lost....

And then if Ohio State beats Texas and loses to Michigan then who's the best team in that whacky triangle ?

The BCS is flawed and there is no right or wrong answer....They need a playoff system....

who knows, it didn't happen, so i'm not worried about it. it generally all works out in the end. texas lost to k-state. USC or UF will lose a game.

michigan would go. i'd take arkansas...but that's just me.

i doubt boise state's 90th ranked SOS would help them out.

The human polls are the 2/3 of the BCS that screws teams over with pre-season rankings.

The computers dont have a pre-season ranking, that is why they have to wait so long before they can get a top 25 list out there.

What's with all this "best two teams" stuff? When has football ever been about who's "best"? It's about who wins - and I don't know anyone who can make a serious claim that the best team always wins.

All these computers and such are just a mathematical model of "best" - and we've seen over several years that the model fails more often than it works. Football is too chaotic an animal for such projections. Not to mention, the word "best" is subjective. Best at scoring? Best at defense? Best points scored/vs points allowed? Best W-L? Most "skilled"? Best stats? Most victories over tough opponents?

Maybe next we'll trot out official style scores for each game:

"Well, Tom, that interception's gonna hurt them with the French judge, but I think they'll still pull off a 9.3 based on the difficulty of the play and general appeal. That should be enough to give them a shot at the top spot."

"Gee, Cindy, I don't know about that. It's going to take quite a lot to get past those Trojans. However, what really will make a difference here isn't on the offensive side at all - the corner didn't stick his landing after coming down with the ball. That's an automatic deduction and that may well knock them out of contention for the bronze."

"That's absolutely correct, Tom, you just can't make errors like that in this league."

The model will never work fairly. Either accept that as the rules of the game or support a playoff.

Ok lets use your logic, USC may have lost to an Oregon State but they smacked a now #5 ranked Arkansas earlier in the year. If Michigan was just that much better than all the other squads then i guess you've kind of forgotten about how they scraped by Penn State & Ball State. You see how the 6 degrees of seperation thing works?

I am not saying that Arkansas should be the team to go, I'm just saying that Michigan isn't that much better than all the other teams that have legitimate gripes. Hell OSU isn't even that much better than the next 5 underneath.

Lloyd Carr doesnt believe in running up the score.

That is why Michigan doesnt blow people away like Ohio St does.

USC wont even have an argument after their overrated team with no defense loses to Notre Dame's overrated team with very little defense and we will all be watching the NC at home with visions of a playoff system dancing in our heads.

yes I am a HUGE MIchigan fan.

P.S. just had to use this:snobord:
