Michael Smith Article

Nice to read an article that doesnt focus on the Mario Reggie debate.

"The real surprise has been this DeMeco Ryans kid," Kubiak said of the linebacker taken in the second round from Alabama. "We put him at the 'Mike' and he's just taken our defense over."

Good article. One of the few unbiased writers at ESPN. I don't really like him on "Around the Horn" but he's a very good writer.

Nice piece, thanks for the link.

Smith was one of the few media people who supported the Mario selection, so this piece doesn't come as a big shock for us. When Salisbury says nice things about us, I might fall over in shock.

We definitely need someone at FS but I am content with Earl at SS. He is a hard hitter and he can catch the ball. I love the guy.

But over the past six games, Houston is yielding just 277.8 yards and 18 points (15.6 when not including a fumble and punt return touchdown) per game.

Interesting FYI--on this basis, over the last 6 games the Texans would rank 3rd in the NFL in total D and 7th on scoring D (using the 18 ppg).

Great writeup.

Smith covered the Texans in training camp, so he's seen the progress. A fair, well written evaluation.

I think your post confirms my opinion that we are seeing a turn around. I'm just concerned that the injuries may cancel out some of the progress.

I doubt they maintain that pace for the rest of the season, but hopefully we don't see a return to anything close to the 1st three games either.

Enjoyed the story. And Smith is one talking head on ESPN who is also a very
knowledgable journalist on the NFL.

Indeed, everyone's working together to get this franchise on track. In the victorious postgame lockerroom, the media, some of whom had cameras, gathered around Weaver, who was wearing an athletic T-shirt. Tony Wyllie, the team's vice president of communications, interrupted the interview and handed Weaver a dress shirt and tie, even going so far as to help with the knot. Weaver wasn't happy that his cufflinks didn't match. It's long been a rule of Wyllie's that his players project an image of professionalism.

As for the Texans' on-the-field makeover, it isn't complete, but they're cleaning up nicely.

I like that..

Why must every national writer insist on placing a NASA reference in their articles?
Because... we're space city, yo. It's the only identifiable characteristic this city has other than mosquitoes.

When Salisbury says nice things about us, I might fall over in shock.
Or how about when inside the NFL starts praising us... It's my favorite NFL show, but the last TWO weeks, they haven't even MENTIONED the Texans.

Professionalism. I like that.

Thats awsome, too bad we play the Colts 2 times a year, that cant help our ranking every year.

How good would the Bears D be if they had to play Indy twice a year

Its an ok article but I still dont want to hear the :jury is still out on our draft."

If that be the case dont hype Reggie.

Im glad Demeco is getting ALOT of run on TV, I really want him to get credit for his outstanding play.

I hate ESPN as well :)

Michael Smith and Page 2 are the only things worth reading on ESPN in my opinion. I think he is right in terms of "jury is still out on our draft" because, other then DeMeco, our rookies have done very well, but they still make rookie mistakes. You cant call a bust after 9 games and you cant call a HoFer after 9 games, but we are certanly looking good so far.

I agree.

If you are looking for a good read & laugh go to Page 2.

If you are looking for fact-based opinions read Michael Smith.

Other than that, stay away from ESPN.com unless you like reading biased opinions & agendas.

I go there for stats, not reading of opinions. With that said going to get away from my ICP avatar and going with the espn one.

Michael Smith seems unbiased to us, because he is obviously "in our court". He was the one to "go out on a limb" and recommend that we take Mario. He has a lot to lose if Mario is a bust and Bush dominates over the next few years. Granted it looks like that will not be the case ATM, but even Rick Mirer was a ROTY...and we know how his career ended up.
