Pats Install Field Turf

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots began installing a synthetic field surface Tuesday to be used in time for their next home game Nov. 26 against Chicago.

Heavy equipment scraped the grass and leveled the dirt beneath it in preparation for the installation of FieldTurf, which has become increasingly popular around the NFL. Gillette Stadium has had natural grass since it opened in 2002.

It's the second time in less than three weeks that the field has been worked on following complaints from Patriots players and opponents about the lack of grass and surplus of sand up the middle of the field for the first three home games.

The middle third of the field was resodded from goal line to goal line in time for the game against Indianapolis on Nov. 5. The Patriots played at Gillette Stadium again a week later against the New York Jets. New England lost both games.

Heavy rains before last Sunday's game with the Jets and occasional drizzle during it left much of the center strip of the field muddy.

Yea and if you look closely it looks like sombody took a few momentos of the field, there are a few holes, if ya know whadda mean vern.

Do players like the field turf over real grass?

I think Reliant will end up going this way. Maybe they'll even bring back the colored endzones from our first game. They were nice to look at.

They did a survey in 2003 or 2004 and the players ranked Field Turf way above Astro Turf but below grass.

The Dynamo play at Robertson Stadium along with the Coogs and the grass there is in excellent condition.

The big problem at Reliant ofcourse is the lack of sunlight on the south end of the stadium. It seems like such a huge undertaking to switch the trays out. Arizona had the right idea.

Thats what they get for letting a soccer team play on their field

I'm pretty sure there was also a concert on teh feild in teh week leading up to the game, then combined with the weather they had the feild was trashed by the 2nd quater.

And 'zona's system is frelling genius.

The entire field at Arizona's stadium rolls outside when a game is not being played. Allowing for the field to be cared for, and also giving it plenty of sunlight.
