Pro Football Weekly has a segment they write for ESPN called Whispers from the NFL and this week they write:

The Texans' secondary got a major lift from the return of CB DeMarcus Faggins in Week 7. A source close to the club says Faggins' return is allowing top CB Dunta Robinson to play with more confidence.

As we all know, since Aaron Glenn left the team, Dunta has been struggling, and he has been in need of some help. Hopefully they can both start getting some interceptions because we need them; we've only had 1 interception this season.
 
Lately, I've been thinking about Robinson and losing Aaron Glenn.

When we had Aaron Glenn, wasn't Robinson playing as our #2 starting CB? That was the year he did so well and since then A. Glenn has been gone, Robinson has certainly been our #1 starting corner, faced higher talent receivers (at least in general), and he's dropped from superstar on the field to average overall. Could it just be that he's a stud #2 and an average #1? Maybe we were all a little too impressed with him his rookie year, thinking he could do that well against anybody on the field.

Of course, it could be no pass rush and bad personnel overall in the secondary, but that's what I've been thinking.
 
TS, I just realized that I'm sort of making a counter-argument to what you said. Anyway, no offense, I've just been wanting to bring that up for a while now.

No I agree really. Also he can't really trust his safeties...I'd suspect he'd play better if he had a good safety behind him.
 
Funny how safties are mentioned...because D-Rob was actually going to be our FS. We tried to sign Antoine Winfield from the Bills in 2004's FA Period, but the Vikings outbid us...the Winfield signing would have made Robinson our FS...and he would be (IMO), an excellent FS.

Winfield, Glenn, and Robinson? Wow... That's a big step from that and letting Glenn go. Dammit Casserly!

The 2004 FA period would have been before the draft of Dunta Robinson. I think the signing would created one of two things either the Texans not drafting Robinson at all or the Texans using all three for a year before booting Aaron Glenn.
 
I wouldn't be opposed to us drafting a CB early next year and moving Dunta to FS. The secondary is a mess and needs to be totally reworked (as is the case with several areas of the team).

It is just amazing how many needs this team still has after 5 drafts.
 
Robinson's quickness, recovery speed, and agility give him the physical tools he needs to be a #1 CB. Add in his tackling ability and he should be a Pro Bowl caliber CB. However, no one player can do it all himself. Since AG left and Coleman stopped being Coleman, Robinson has had a pair of rookie safeties to work with, a revolving door at the other corner position (where no one is really starter caliber, IMO), and very little pass rush. The linebacking corps has been very weak as well, so Robinson has done what he can to help shore things up there.

Get the man some help in the secondary and things will improve. Demeco helps in the LB corps and Mario helps on the line. Once things come together, his natural talent will shine through.
 
CBs always work better together when both are talented. Opposing offenses always exploit the weakest link in a defense, so if one CB is sub-par, he'll get picked on all day.

Hopefully this will be something that is addressed in the off-season. We have so many hole to fill, though, that priority positions have to be looked at first unless a player comes along that is too good to pass up.
 
I would like to see us add at least one proven veteran, preferably not too old, in the secondary, be it corner or saftey. I feel we need at least another corner and probably two new safteies, and the idea of them all being rookies or marginal talents is not promising.

Asante Samuel anyone?
 
Dunta will stay at CB. He's plenty good enough to play the position well; the truth is that he just really isn't thrown at that much. No reason to throw at Dunta when you have Lewis Sanders and Dexter McCleon "covering" your other WRs.

Lack of INTs is partly on the front four and the playcalling for not creating pressure. This has improved recently and I expect our secondary to reflect the difference.
 
IMO D-Rob would be better off if he had a teamate to look up to. That is what Aaron did for him so should we have let him go, yes he lost a step or a couple of steps. We need to go get him some real help they left him out their by his self and he has not done so well he needs that guy he can get advise from on a daily bases. He is young and having a mentor would help him out much faster and as it has been said before and I agree he does not trust his safities and who would blame him they have been horrible but I love the guys energy and will to win just watching interviews after losing you could see it in his face he is sick of it. If this team does not start winning chances are we will start losing some of our good young talent so just win.
 
im a big fan od D-Rob to begin, but on more than one occassion, on some of the few times he has been thrown at, iv noticed that he doesnt always look back at the ball but instead watches the reciever and reacts to him. one of these times was in the endzone and the reciever did a good job of waiting to make a jump for the ball and D-Rob didnt have time to react. im not the fore most expert on CB play so maybe this is a coached technique, but it seems that the CB should locate the ball if they can instead of watching the reciever, it means ur gonna have to react twice as fast to get there in time. has anyone else noticed this?
 
I think he would make a better FS than CB. Probably a heck of a FS, but will always be a "decent" to good cb.

to make it clear, the reason i noticed and brought it up was b/c when i saw it, especially on the time in the endzone, he didnt even know the ball had been thrown and it went right over his head. much the same on the others.
 
I think that we would have a better chance to get Assante Samuel over Nate Clemants unless Moulds could work some magic for us. Clemants will want alot of money and maybe we could get Samuel and Cato June for the same price as Clemants...but thats just my thinking
