Defense - last four weeks

Accorind to Marc and Rich, the last four games our D is 4th in the NFL (yards allowed).

Discuss.

Thats good news but we are still 28th in defense.

Giving up 359 yds per game.

We are also 31st in penalty yds with 64 yds per game.

We are also last in the NFL (tied with Rams & 49ers) giving up 5.8 yds PER PLAY.

Lots of work still left to do.

I expected the defense to be pretty bad early on. Now that we have a few games under our belts and we are settling into a cohesive group, I expect them to be a lot better from here on out barring injuries. A true test is to play those same teams again and see how our defense has evolved. We can't do that, however we do play Indy again, that would be a nice gauge to go by when we play them and compare the two meetings.

The biggest improvement I've seen since has been defending the run. We held some pretty good backfields under 100 yards during that stretch and I hope we continue this.

The defense's performance the past few weeks is a big reason I lost the "Angel Soft" avatar. They've played much more like a cohesive group despite some injuries and a lack of veteran leadership. That earns them a great deal of respect in my eyes, and I look forward to seeing them continue growing as a team.

Not really. Indy is the best of the best when it comes to offensive production. Every team except the Pats, Steelers and Charges had a problem with them. Don't get me wrong, I believe we are getting better the Colts are not a good measuring stick

Not running

The first 3 games, we were giving up 484 yards per game. That's insane.

These last 4 games, we've been giving up 265 yards a game. That's... really pretty damn good. If you take out the Titan game (where we kept them to only 197 total yards), that's still 288 yards per game and that's a top 10 level defense in terms of ypg.

Since the spanking given to us by the Skins, I think our defense is starting to pull itself together. We're still blowing assignments occasionally and that's what killed us against the Titans. I never heard who blew their assignment on that TD pass. We've definitely gotten better against the run (although our best game against the run was against the Colts) but Tiki is going to be a big test of how much we've really improved.

I like how they have played of late. Yes there is work to be done and they need to tighten things up more importantly in the secondary. I do not know maybe it is just me but I have not seen Sanders looking like a fool all game long the last couple weeks maybe it just me I really dislike his play and think he hurts the secondary more than he helps.

I have to say that Sanders actually covers WRs pretty well, and he will make a tackle. The thing that he does NOT do is fight for the ball and try to make a play on it while it is in the air. CC Brown is the one IMO that hurts more than he helps.

Regardless, I think we can agree that we need an upgrade for both players. LOL...understatement of the year award.

I like the way our D has improved against the run also, it's in the pass D I would like to see a challenge for the ball while it's in the air, not after someone makes the catch.

Although I'm not big on Richard Smith, I have to give credit where it's due. Our D has been improving, and isn't necessarily losing games for us all by themselves now.

We have problems but I think with a few changes will a lot better.Theres been a lot of improvement but we still need to find balance. The problem i've seen is we have the been poor in 3rd down conversions. We are one of the least sacked teams.I haven't really been able to watch many games but I see a few moves that can help.We do have to get better at converting even if the QB soesn't get changed this week..

simmons is far better than cc brown or sanders imo. he's come along way since we first picked him up. petey is just petey and better on the field than off. wong is out this game though wich means orr and greenwood need to make some tackles, and not finishing tackles after they let the guy by them.

Over the last 4 weeks, our passing D hasn't been challenged very well at all.

Miami/Cullpepper...... not much of a test

Cowboys/Bledsoe...... not much of a test

Jacksnoville/Leftwich... not much of a test..

All three of those QBs were benched.

Titans/Vince........ not much of a test.

Eli without Plax, will be the best passing attack we've faced, but still not a true test. If they go off, and Eli passes for over 250 yards..... then we really suck. If we hold them to 200 yards or so passing....... that should be expected.

defense still needs a lot of work.. seems if we aren't blitzing we aren't pressuring.

Our D did pretty well against the Giants. We only lost by four points. We should have been blown out by ESPN analysts.

Well, we beat the spread, that's for sure..... defensively we only gave up 2 touchdowns....... 14 points.... the defense did a nice job.

I loved the Glenn Earl hit on Shockey........ that's got to be the #1 JACKED UP hit tonight, it's gotta be.

Armani Toomer was basically a no-show like I predicted, and we couldn't stop their run.

But if we know(like I said, I predicted it before the game) that Shockey was going to be their main reciever, we should've done better.

I'm not complaining, just pointing out opportunities for improvement.

I'd have loved to use Wong as our MLB, and putting Meco on Shockey all day... with a little safety help for sure...

With Plax out and Toomer less than full go, all we really needed to do was stop/slow down Tiki and keep someone on Shocky. Didn't do to well with either.
