Weigert and Salaam are hurt. They don't practice. They are tough and will play if at all possible.


I see Winston says that the Giants don't run complicated blitz schemes. Why should they if they can just run past our aging and injured starters who's best attribute is "they try hard"? Sounds like Winston will have some playing time though - that's a plus.

This could get ugly.

3. Whine about Dunta Robinson's pass coverage

Yeah, not practicing works well on the road. Oldish hurt guys, a rookie, and a guy who was outta football.

In my old job, I used to have to review people's plans about stuff and tell them if I thought they would work. Some of the plans often had too much of a component of the breaks working just right to think that they would be successful.

Sometimes I would joke that their plans needed one more thing to make them work...

You raise your hands, and put your palms together, and then you pray really really hard that everything works all right.:cool:



What do y'all think the odds of these things happening before the end of the year are and what is more likely:

1. Wand being re-signed. (Geez, what happened to make things such that they wouldn't consider him at all, even though he looked pretty good in the preseason. Was he just around to push Spencer?).

or

2. Pitts ending up playing left tackle.

We are only half way through the season. How does Winston go from needing lots of development to maybe playing significant minutes against the future holder of the all time sack record for the Giants?

There is some weird stuff going on with this. I have a hard time seeing our current starting tackles make it through the season.

Yes, but next week we can bash Rosenfels for predicating that Carr would play well. :rolleyes:

I actually predicted in preseason that Carr would get benched at some point this year and come back very strong. Well, the hard part of that is still to come.
 
Oh, and Chad Stanley is God. Not sure if that ends the debate on the other thread about God's gender status or sexual preference, but anyway, he is God. :ok:

How many sacks did Dwight Freeney get against us??
How 'bout Phillip Daniels?? How many sacks did he get??
Demarcus Ware?? did he sack David this year?? ChrisCanty?? Marcus Spears??
How many sacks did Salaam give up to JasonTaylor?? I only count 1...

Look we're going to have to define exactly what "one bad game" means. Because Salaam has had one bad game, & I don't know what got into KVB or LaBoy, but they were playing better than any DE we've seen this year, with the exception of JasonTaylor. Yes they got beat a couple of times, but they (weigart & Salaam) owned KVB & Laboy more times than not. Salaam was probably credited with 2 sacks at the most before going into the Tennesse game.

David on the other hand has had at least 2 fumbles in 4 of our 7 games this year. he's turned the ball over in all but two games this season. He looked better against Tennessee than he did against Indy & Washington.

IMHO Salaam has had a bad day, & we should be talking about him, like we are talking about David..... he had a bad day, he'll do better next game, he's a pro, he'll bounce back.......

Or we should be talking about David like we are talking about Salaam...... we need to find a rookie to replace him, someone who won't give the ball to the other team twice a frick'n game.
 
Relax TK. There can be more than one player doing badly on a team this abysmal. In fact, it's almost a requirement.

I don't think I've ever heard the phrase 'Left Tackle Controversy'...

I don't have a problem with it..... & I see more than one bad player on this team.

My problem is the people who don't see that there are more than one bad player on this team, and are holding Salaam to a higher standard that our QB.

Across the board, we want Salaam replaced..........


but David should start next week.

Salaam had one bad game, but we talk as if he has been a revolving door all season.

David can't decide which team he plays on on a weekly basis, but he had "one bad game"??

You make a good point about being halfway through the season. At 2-5 we have more games in front of us than behind us. It seems like we've given up on our tackle situation and are just playing out the string. I’d rather see action now rather than throw up our hands and do early planning for next year’s draft and free agency.

Not only is it too early for that, it doesn't help us for next year either. Why continue to play Weigert and Salaam? They don't have a big future with the team, and their play could easily lead to negative effects – mental and physical – on our quarterbacks. Their play doesn't show only in the sack count - people have been getting hits on Carr immediately after he releases the ball all year. Carr has his share of problems, but he has also covered for the o-line better this year than he has in previous seasons with a quicker release. We should be playing young players that can play just as well or better than our veterans in their current physical states.


If Winston does start playing I expect some rough spots. He is raw and will make some mistakes. If he is forced in to action we should try to remember that rather than throw him under the bus like we did the other project LT we had that started a full year before he was “scheduled” to and played adequately.

I think it is time to give Winston some serious PT unless and until he shows he can’t handle it during games. It is past time we look to see what street free agents are available and add one of them to the roster in place of Bedell or one of our redundant fullbacks.

We need to stop accepting this bad play just because people are veterans and trying hard. We need accountability or we continue sending a losing message to the team.
 
Couldn't have said it better myself. Great thoughts. Play Winston, but let's all understand he's in development and not production mode.

At least as far as my commentary goes, this is where I am coming from (I'm not sure if I am part of "the people who don't see that there are more than one bad player on this team.")

Kubiak said that Wiegert and Salaam gave it their all the last game, but are both very nicked up. We are only half way through the season.

I am hoping it was just a bad game, but given the description of Salaam's physical condition right now, I just have to say I am not optimistic.

And our backups are Winston (a rookie) and Bedell (a guy who thought he would be out of football this season).

To think we can get through the season with this lineup involves a bit of prayer on Texans fans part, unless there is information about this that the team isn't sharing with everyone.

As far as I know David is not hurt, and his backup is competent. Whether Carr ends up as a good quarterback or someone that is given up on like Brian Griese, is something we will get to figure out.

I can see both the positives and the negatives of sitting DC, and I'm cool with what Kubiak decides on this. I have to admit my bias against coaches who play the revolving door quarterback game, but I also completely understand why people's patience with Carr has been stomped on, mutiliated and disfigured.

So my discussion is less a giving up on Salaam comment and more of a geez, how are our tackles going to make it through the season comment, and what the heck is plan B? I like Salaam and Wiegert both, and want them to succeed, but realistically I am not sure that they are going to make it.

JMO, but I have yet to see a game with Salaam and Wiegert in it that made me think they did anything but a sub-par job, so coming from me - yeah, I think he's been pretty much a revolving door and this was not "one bad game." The stats don't support it because 1. Carr has done a good job of getting rid of the ball and 2. Weigert's guy is usually a half-step ahead of Salaam's, so the right looks weaker than the left, when really they are equally porous. If the right was fixed, the left would look ugly.

The reasons to bench him are that he has struggled, is struggling, and will continue to struggle, which will affect DC, the pass game, and the run game. At Jacksonville he was all but kicked off the team for some hideous hits the defense got off Salaam to Leftwich.

I just don't see any reason for him to be there on the field.

Exactly.

When the screen door squeaks, you oil the hinges...you don't throw the door away.

Salaam is a squeaky hinge. Healthy, he was doing OK. Hurt, he was obviously overmatched. And it does make it frustrating to see that we aren't stocking more extra o linemen like most teams do. Kinda hard to bench an o linemen with how we're operating on roster spots.

Any o linemen who false starts over and over like Salaam did last weekend, and then also allows blindside hits/hurries/sacks/etc. to the degree that Salaam was allowing last weekend, had better firm up and firm up FAST no matter who is the QB.

It seems like there's a certain poster who is minimizing Salaam's atrocious play this past Sunday, and then contrasting it with Golden Boy David whom he/she thinks might be "in the clear" with the team and with the fans.

Just because David's starting doesn't mean anything at all. That's posturing that any good head coach will do to help his starting QB get back on his feet again. The MAJORITY (and I'd say it's 90% of us here on this board) were glad to see Carr benched for the first time since he's been here.

But for some people to blow up and say that we're MORE harsh on Salaam than on Carr is a joke.

I've got a laundry list of guys who should've been benched last Sunday. Andre Johnson is right up there. He's dropped passes that David put RIGHT into his hands, and it's ben when there's not even any defensive contact anywhere NEAR Andre Johnson when it happens. As a QB who is trying to do his part, it must be absolutely mind boggling to David how a guy like Andre Johnson is consistently dropping the easy passes but coming down with the high floaters and the quick hits in traffic.

I'm an "Equal Benching Opportunity" guy. The more the merrier until this roster of 53 men decide that they are not Dom Capers' rag tag group of players anymore.

Nobody....and I repeat Nobody.....On THIS team should be "mind boggled" at someone elses poor performance....

All these guys have made mistakes, and I'd bet all of them have been called out in team meetings a time or two....I love how Kubes handles his players....and this past Sunday, he showed that no man is "above the law"....
 
I gaurantee if we go back to look at the game, you won't find Salaaam as guilty as you think he is of the many hits Carr took.

I feel good enough, to bet money that Flanagan was a bigger whole in our OL than Salaam.

hits?? I bet you money Salaam didn't give up as many as you think he did.

I have been saying for some time that something smells with the Wand deal. There has to have been very bad words between them, because Wand is a whole lot better than anything we have been signing. I also happen to think he is a whole lot better than Saleem(Spelling). The young man worked his xxxx off to be a part of this team and then they summarily release him based on what needs? We didn't have and still don't have an intact O-line and Winston does not have the physcial requirements to be an NFL LT.

At least BJ found a good home and it makes sense given Daniels overall play. The Wand deal does not. Kubiak was trying to make a RB deal and completely blew it. Gado, Dayne, kick Morency to the curb and what do you have? Lundy, who we had all along. In this case he blew the bridges up behind him and Carr is paying the price and so is the team...........

The difference in what you propose and what Kubiak did is this...does benching player "X" give the team a better chance of winning the game?

Bench AJ for dropping a couple of passes and bring in Walters; you have no deep threat and Moulds gets doubled all game. Bench Salaam b/c he's struggling and bring in Winston; a rookie who is learning and recovering from injury. Bench DRob b/c he "didn't try to tackle VY" (which I think is BS BTW); bring in Faggins/Sanders and ? to play nickel. None of these improved our chances of winning on Sunday.

The only one that was a good decision...hmmmm. Bench Carr and bring in Rosenfels; we instantly eliminate our turnovers and almost come from behind to win the game. That's why Carr was benched and no one else was....and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for numerous players to be benched throughout the remainder of the season if I was you. At least not until we have better depth and talent that is capable of challenging the starters:twocents:
 
Good Lord..how much longer will the OL gripes go on. Some OL's suck - have your QB feel the pressure and adjust, have him compensate for the LT if he gets beat. We're looking for a line that doesn't let DL get past them because if they do, DC gets sacked or fumbles. Funny how some QB's in this league simply buy time and move around in or out of the pocket all the while looking for a WR.

Wow - novel idea. Now, please get back to how we must have a franchise LT/RT so david doesn't fumble or get sacked.:ok:
