Benching will help.

You have to treat your players equally and david's benching sends the message that everyone must be held accountable. This was missing in the past. Special treatments of certain players can divide a locker room. I think our team will come back stronger as the result of this benching and we will see improved play from the team whether it's david or sage at qb. Good decision that should have been made years ago.

I agree. Two things from yesterday that were 180 degrees opposite of the previous regime: going for it on fourth down in the 1st qtr., and, benching David Carr.

This sends a message to the rest of the team on so many levels. I like it. :thumbup

Hopefully benching Carr will bring the best out of him like it did with Lundy.

When Lundy was benched, it made him realize that he needed to work on some things and as a result, he seemed to have gotten better.

Hopefully that will do the same thing with Carr.:twocents:

i think david was still too comfortable thinking he would not be replaced. I hear all about kubes getting onto him after bad plays, but nothing sends a message like sitting on the bench. By the end of this season, i really believe we will have a good feeling as to who out qb will be for the next several years and i think we will be in good shape at this position whether it be carr or sage.

Now we'll see how he handles it.

When he was on with John and Lance this morning, he was saying how much it hurt etc., kind of what you would expect. But he also said something to the effect that "that will always stay with me."

The way he said it could have been (and probably was) interpreted in a couple of different ways by people who heard it.**

Some probably thought 'fragile psyche' and 'first step out the door.'

Others probably thought 'wake-up call' that will inspire determined effort in the future.

And some of us only care that we get beyond this asap whatever the solution.

** For the record, the tone and inflection wasn't real positive which is understandable, I guess.

To me, it was a message. Carr has surpassed my expectations this year already.

Kubiak was quoted as saying something along the lines of...he must demand that that position protect the football. Thats what the benching was about.

There's no question it was a message. That point is clear.

What's TBD is how he handles it from this point forward.

So how many more benchings will Carr need before he can lead the team to the Super Bowl?

If one benching is good, are two benchings better?

I hope and believe (or believe and hope, if you can see the distinction) that Kubiak will assure that David handles it in the appropriate manner.
IMO, the actions of a coach after making this kind of move will effect greatly the way a player reacts to the move

One is enough if he comes back from the bench with a left tackle who knows what a snap count is, and a right tackle who knows who Kyle Vanden Bosch is, and that it's his responsibility to block him...

no, next time he goes to the bench, he really needs to stay there unless it's related to injury. If sage can do better, it's not fair to the fans and other players to continue with a project. DC will just have to get over it, however, i don't think he will stay on the bench here, he would demand a trade. Hopefully, he will bring his A game the rest of the season and we can move forward.

This was my thoughts as well. With the year Carr's having, and to pull him out sends the ultimate signal. Get your head in THIS game. Last weeks or next weeks don't count.

The rest of the team should be soiling their shorts over this move.

I expect to see a much crisper attitude from the team next game.
