Why I will still wear #8 and why my blood is battle red.

Today's game was a dificult game to watch as a fan of David Carr. I am a Texans fan first and watching him throw into quadruple coverage and loose fumbles hit me hard. Carr being benched hit me like a ton of bricks, but it was nothing compared to the heartbreak of the bills game or fischers . 4. The worst feeling I felt was when i heard my team was leaving our state and us fans who supported them choke after choke. the oilers left us in the dark with no team to root for. Until.... 2002 a light shone in Houston Texas the light was football returning to Texas. David Carr carries that light that came back to us as he is the face of the franchise. Time after time he goes down and he gets back up ready to lead the Texans to victory.

Today he did not get back up, and it was his fault. There are those out there who want to bury him and leave him for dead as most cowboy fans have done for Bledsoe. You have looked for any chance to bash him for the Texans lack of sucess. Some of that criticism is warranted and he must prove it wrong. We as Texans fans must be there to pull him up and cheer him on. He will have the remainder of his time in Houston knowing the fans supported him. Oh Carr haters ask Tampa or Atlanta if they would like to have had their hall of fame quarterbacks that they let go back. Be careful what you wish for. You all Know what uniform he will be wearing THE INSTANT he leaves. Here is a hint it has a star on its helmet.

I'm going to wear my #8 because I paid $60 on the dang thing.

I should get at least a year out of it.

This was an excellent post.........I haven't responded to the Carr hating because I don't normally allow myself to be bated into an unwinnable debate. But I liked your post so here's my 2 cents..........

You can have your Vince Young fantasies but at some point you'll need to get over it and remember that we play him twice a yr.....possibly for the next 10 or more.

David Carr was drafted to be the cornerstone of the franchise. Now how many people can you think of that can possibly pull that off for a brand new expansion team?? Kerry Collins couldn't do it (although he did make it to a SB with the Giants) and neither could Mark Brunell....but both of those players made it pretty far. And to be on the worst team, with the worst scheme has got to be a mountain to climb.

Now we've got a proven winner coach and scheme and a QB in his first yr in that scheme. He can't be perfect every game. He has shown that he can be consistent. His stats (and yest they actually do mean something) are tops in the league. The only thing he has to do to turn the corner is eliminate the mistakes and you haters will be praising the ground he walks on.

Too bad he probably won't get that opportunity now......only 7 games into the season. Did you honestly think we were a playoff team?? Instead, our genius coach might have just crippled the psyche of his starting QB whom he declared could be a winner in this league. And we KNOW he can play well in the 4th corner......FACT. His backup comes in and scores because no one has any film on the guy other than in pre-season....and we all know that counts for nothing. But we still LOSE THE GAME. So the hate comes out.......someone in another thread actually threw Tony Banks out there.......are you kidding me??

Carr has been the ONLY quarterback this franchise has known. He has left my family with many fond memories and if this is his last season then I wish him success wherever he winds up....I'm still a fan. That being said, I'm for whoever helps this team win but trashing a guy's career because he hasn't reached the potential that WE wanted is bogus. If you think it's easy go suit up and try out. I think Carr's done a hell of job given the tools he had to work with over the yrs and I have no problem wearing his jersey on game day. The only thing he needs is more time, which obviously most people aren't willing to give him.....only 7 games into the season.

It'll be interesting to see how Kubiak tries to repair this cluster******. Meanwhile.....good game to Vince Young.....can we get over him yet??

How about ps, you need to learn your history on your favorite players. Carr was a big fan of Aikman and wears 8 because of that. Dilfer went to Fresno St...but Carr was indeed a Cowboy fan.

Trent Dilfer......another excellent example of a guy (same school as DC, a man that he considers a mentor) that started on the worst team in the league......got ran out of Tampa even though they were starting to build a winner, and went on to win a Super Bowl.....because he had a great T-E-A-M

The first thing the Ravens did was run Dilfer out of town the year after the SB. They also didn't pay him franchise money for being a bad qb....so they had that going for them.

ya, he was shafted.......been there.

If you believe Dilfer was a bad QB then your views on the game of football are either skewed by his statistics or message board opinions. Stats are important because they show a players development over time. Dilfer, much like DC, was drafted into the worst franchise in the league....with no realistic hope of being a winner in the near future. He played bad, but so did the rest of his T-E-A-M. They were learning how to put it together and when Dungy came to town it was looking good. Funny, i think Dilfer had just been there 4-5 yrs....give or take. Dungy's philosophy turned that franchise into a winner eventually. But by that time the fans had already turned on their QB and it didn't matter what he did right, they always blamed him for what he didn't. Dilfer left the Bucs at the peak of his athletic ability and wound up on a team with a championship defense. He didn't know the system very well but he was gifted enough to manage the games efficiently and win it all.

Now I don't think I need to paint you a picture of the parallels in that story and what we see happening right now. I'm ashamed of it as a fan and don't really care if people want to jump off the bandwagon. If it's Carr then I'm confident with that. If not......hopefully we didn't just make a mistake that will derail a talented athlete's career. I don't want that on my hands because he could very possibly win it all with another team.

you don't need to tell me about stats...I'm the guy who thinks most fans are way too stat-centered. I think Dilfer blows because of his play...not much more than that is needed for these eyes.
 
The reason the Ravens did not repeat in 2001 was because Jamal Lewis tore his ACL in training camp. It had nothing to do with Trent Dilfer being replaced by Elvis Grbac.

First, I'm happy to see that Carr will be starting next week. That's the way it should be.

But your a fool if you think he got benched because he fumbled the ball in the third Qtr of the Titans game.

He got benched because he fumbled the ball in the Indy Game (x2), the Washington Game, and played poorly in the Dallas game.

You've seen how David has handled the,"you can screw up all you want, you're still our starter" method of QB corrections. Now it's time to see the, "you see we've got a guy who can do your job as well if not better than you..... you'd better make sure this guy never sees the field again, because if he does, you never will" methodology.
