Ok,

This loss can be laid squarely at the feet of David Carr, well..... with some help from Andre Johnson.

Fact of the matter is that Carr needed to be benched. His head was not in the game.. he made a stupid pass attempt that ended up an interception.. his pocket awareness was shoddy, and it ended up causing two fumbles. This is a game in which we should have dominated, and we DID at every position except the most important one, QB.

Sage came in and played smart football, and if not for 2 dropped passes by AJ.. one for an int, and one to stop a drive at a crucial time, he may have still pulled out a win for us.

Carr deserved the bench, and now ill tell you why he needs to stay there.

This is a team that is searching for its identity, it is trying its damnedest to be consistent.. and it had almost reached that point. We were on the verge of becoming an average to good team, with a few weaknesses, and Carr came in and laid an egg at a time when we needed him to be a rock. We cant afford to have that kind of "fluxuation" in performance at QB. We are already walking the tightrope on consistency, and to have everyone come out to play except Carr is unforgivable.

I think Sage deserves the starting spot, and it should be his to lose. if he starts making mistakes, then by all means, bring Carr in again, but Carr played too poorly, and Sage played too well for us to put Carr back in.

Seeing what Kubiak has done for Carr, I cant help but think about what he might be capable of doing if we gave him a young, promising rookie QB to mold from scratch.

I guess my point in this is that I have seen how well Carr has been playing, I love what Kubiak has done for him.. but we are in a rebuilding phase, and we cannot afford to hitch our trailer to a QB that is capable of losing games for us single handedly.

Kubiak seems like he is really ahead of the game when it comes to evaluating and training QBs.. I think we should give him free reign in the draft to pick a guy that he has faith he can turn into a consistent and successful QB, and then do everything in our power to make sure we get him.


All that aside.. my thoughts on the game:

Props to the Titans for not making mistakes. Im sorry Titan fans but thats about the best I can say about your performance. You made big plays when you needed them, and didnt make mistakes when you couldnt afford them.. other than that though, this game was handed to you. I do not feel like we got "beat".. and though I know that football fans look down on people that make this comment, I have to say that "we beat ourselves".


The Positives:

Lundy is the man. I am so stoked about him.

Meco is still the best defensive player drafted this year.

Williams continues to grow and look better.

AJ, despite his mistakes, still proved that he is one of the best WRs in the league.

Owen Daniels .. wow... i mean.. is this our best draft class ever? Meco, Williams, Daniels, and Lundy.. thats unreal.


So, in closing.. I cant say im that disappointed. I still feel like we are in a rebuilding mode.. and im actually happy when these weaknesses come to light, because I know we have a staff that is capable of both seeing them, and fixing them. We are only gonna become a stronger team after a loss like this.

I actually agree with most of your post, and I think kubiak was right to pull David. But i don't think he is going to throw him under the bus just yet. What is good to see is that if you don't perform, you are out. As it should be.

Sage played great, but i want it to be David. At this point though, I just want to win.

I agree, too. Good post...but I think David Carr still needs to take over next week. The bench was a "warning" imo. If he plays like that again...and then I wouldn't mind seeing a permanent change...but let's be honest....Carr has been really REALLY improved for the majority of the season. It was a BAD day...but I don't think we should pull the plug because of a VERY bad day.

BTW...let's be honest...the 2006 Draft class is an AWESOME start for this new Coaching staff. Kudos to Kubes & Crew.:tease:

I have no problem with Carr being benched because I have faith in Kubiak. Kubes told him if he lost a fumble in the second half he would be benched. Kubes lived by his word.

If you want to lay this loss squarely at the feet of anyone, I don't think it's possible, but I'll say this - Zach Wiegert is more of a goat in my eyes. Vandenbosch was terrorizing the backfield. Yeah, Carr should have had a bit more pocket awareness. To me, that's being a bit nitpicky when you're giving Wiegert a pass for being a turnstile. Vandenbosch had 2 sacks and a forced fumble and had two more sacks taken away from him by the refs. Perhaps next time we'll have Zach give up Derrick Thomas' sack record, eh?
 
The way I see it is this:Carr gets all excited about a game, becomes his own worst enemy, self destructs, and ******** up the game. This game starts to make me wonder if I had my money on the wrong horse. I thought Mario would be the right pick, Reggie Bush wasnt our best pick, and VY would just send our team into a long rebuilding mode and we had a quarterback to build upon in Carr. Carr could be taught the way win. Carr would win.My money was on Carr.

It just seems Carr cant get over his meltdowns. VY is going to be a good QB. Am I worried about the pick? No thats over with and no going back. Am I worried that Carr cant be taught to win? No, this is just progress. You cannot have progress without failures. Carr is going to have days like this. Every qb does. Carr is going to be taught to win and he is going to win.

The only thing I am worried about are this meltdowns. He does this everytime an highly anticipated game is on line. He wants to do too much and pisses on himself.

Its the Peyton Manning vs. Tom Brady comparision(in no way is Carr like the two) What do you want in a QB? One that wins games, or one that wins the big games?

Carr is trying to prove he can win on a consecutive basis, shown flashes of winning close games, but he keeps having meltdowns... We cannot win the big game with him :trophy: if he keeps doing this. Winning on a consecutive basis is great, but ask Dan Marino or Peyton if they would trade some of thier records for the SB.

What can happen if we start Sage? Lose a game? Heck, just helps our first pick next year. Will Carr's confidence be shaken? If he is a true winner he will take it like a man and welcome the chance to come back and do better. Lets try it. If Sage can bring the W and the playoffs and the SB then lets go for it. I just would rather see Carr do it because I feel Carr couldve been a good QB on another team and Casserly/Capers ruined him. Even with all the millions, you play to win and leave a name and Carr hasnt gotten that chance with this expansion team. He was put into a bad program and finally has a gotten a chance with a real coach.

We are not rebuilding this year guys. We are still building. We have never had a good team that could play. We need to find a QB to win us that big game. Hopefully it is Carr and I want it to be, but, if he cant he cant and no longer prolonging the madness of a messy breakup. Lets just see if the rest of the season how things go and we will know for sure if we need to trade Carr.

Grid, don't forget who was pretty much leading the pack for the don't draft vince young campaign. You didn't just say you didn't agree about drafting vy, but you went out of your way to make fun of those who did believe vy was the right choice.

I like your ability to retort and re-evaluate situations, but maybe this should be a lesson learned on sometimes you can make too strong of a stance before things happen and shouldn't make attacks on other people's opinions.
 
I still dont want VY. I still am glad we got Mario and I wouldnt do ANYTHING different in this year's draft.

As I said.. we would have dominated this game. Carr made mistakes that cost us the win.
 
That is more of a personal preference. I admit I didnt see anything in today's game to make me beleive that VY isnt capable of being a great QB. He is still raw, but he doesnt look lost out there.

I honestly can't think of an upcoming QB with a skill set that would better fit Kubiak's offense than VY.

Just to try to establish some credibility, I predicted the Wali Lundy pick before the pick happened because from reading his profile I thought he fit the mold for a zone blocking scheme RB.

How anyone could not want VY on this team is beyond my comprehension, so I guess we're better off just ending this debate.

Its the same reasons I wouldnt want TO on this team, though TO is 10x worse than VY. Its the same basic concept.

Additionally.. for us to get VY..we would have had to NOT get Williams.. and I wouldnt want to give up Williams.
 
Grid... solid posts... I'm also stoked about this young nucleus Kubiak handpicked... Lundy, Daniels, Williams, and Ryans will be nice players. After watching today's game, I'm left disappointed at AJ's inconsistency, trusting Kubiak, and doubting Carr (but then again, haven't I always). I think whatever Kubiak wants to do with the QB situation, he should be allowed to do. Steve Young was raving about how great of a QB coach he was today, and Carr's progress (albeit inconsistent) and Rosenfels backs up that rep.

This is a playoff team in 2008 if we start over at QB, and a 8-8 or 9-7 team in 2007 if one of the guys on the roster can come through.

You should seriously reconsider your assesment on VY's character. Maybe check out his reality show on BET called the Next Level.
 
While I agree with you Grid that our draft was awesome, and I wouldn't trade Mario for VY... not even close, I disagree with leaving Carr as the starter at this point. Sage's ability to ad lib plays and give his receivers time to make something happen is something I've very rarely seen from Carr. Carr can manage an offense fairly well if he's given ample protection, but he lacks field awareness.

As for VY, I didn't see anything that makes me think he's going to be very successful throwing the ball in the NFL, and I hear that's somewhat important in this league. Anyways, I could be wrong, but at this point Mario's looking pretty solid.

Umm, yeah, interesting and pretty damn smart to!

I guess it's probably about 14 years too early to try and talk reason to the VY homers. But clearly the Texans made a good decision in drafting Mario. And, the team is much stronger with Schaub at QB, who was a heck of a lot cheaper than VY.

While you may not agree with it, can you at least comprehend it now? I'd gladly have him on the team. HOwever, I wouldn't trade him for Mario or give him a huge signing bonus. But, if we could get him for cheap to compete with Sage for backup QB, I'm all for it. Maybe could return some punts for us, even play Qb in some goaline packages.

There have been some epic ones over the years. Especially at the end of Capers' regime, during the 2-14 debacle. Hervoyel made that "pink soap" avatar (used by dalemurphy) as a joke of the 'Fire Capers Club', and at least half the forum joined and used it, as well (including myself).

I'd say a close second is a tie between the 2006 draft and the subject of YKW. Some of those aftershocks are still being felt today.
