My Keys to Success: vs. Tennessee

Our Houston Texans will battle the rival Tennessee Titans this upcoming Sunday in The Colesium in Nashville, Tennessee home of the Titans.

It will be another very big game for our Texans for a various amount of reasons. One is this game is a rivalry, as always has been, it is also an oppurtunity for our team to put together 2 straight wins and continue our success, it would also earn us our first road win of this season.

The Tennessee Titans, as I said in my preview of them yesterday (Wednesday), are a very under-rated football team. They are very young, yet very talented. Very similar to our Texans. Indeed, the Titans do have 5 losses this season, however, 3 of the 5 are by 7 or less points as again, I pointed out yesterday.

The following is what I believe our Texans must do in order to have success and get a win this Sunday when facing Tennessee...

-Solid run game. We have seen what happens when we have a good running game with this offense last week in Jacksonville. This will be very important to do this week as well. Tennessee ranks last in the leauge in run defense, so hopefully we can get a nice run game going against them behind Lundy who is coming off a great game. Samkon Gado or Ron Dayne should also chip in. By establishing this run game, as we seen last week, it really opens up our passing game, espically the play-actions.

-Contain Tennessee QB Vince Young. Young is a very talented quarterback, ween certainly seen that in his college years and already at times in the NFL in his rookie year this year. He can make big plays with both his legs and arm. He can do so much, you really can not stop him all together, just contain him. He can escape the blitz nad break upfield for a huge rushing game. He can make accurate passes as well. I think our defense will be up to the challenge to limiting Vince Young's abilities tihs Sunday, it will be a huge part of the game I believe.

-Win turnover battle. I do not have to tell you how big of a part turnovers play in this leauge. We seen that last week as our Texans came up with a huge fumble recovery from Jacksonville in the second half when they were driving and getting ready to take the lead. We stripped them, recovered, then did it again on their next offensive play and we never looked back. We protected the ball very well against Jacksonville also. If we can manage to win the tunover battle Sunday, it would obviously be huge.

By doing these things I mentioned above and contiuing to fight hard with pride and showing determination and being aggresive, we have a healthy shot of defeating the Tennessee Titans Sunday.

It will be another hard fought games by both teams, and again, a big game for our Houston Texans.

Continue to cheer us on fans, even if your not traveling to Tenneesee, cheer us on from home or at the local bar wtaching the game! Let's make some noise

The key is the run game, stopping theirs and getting ours going. Now if we cant run in the Titans we're knackered. They give up something like 160 yards a game on average. We need to be looking at 125 - 140 rush yards this week at least.

Jets 25/86
Chargers 37/241 (Turner ripped off a huge gain in the 4th quarter)
Dolphins 37/159
Cowgirls 41/217
Colts 34/154
Skins 26/125

Some are just nasty games that get out of control (Chargers and Cowboys) then they just run the rest of the clock out. LT and J. Jones are good backs no matter what defense you have. Oddly enough we're 12th in the NFL for passing defense right now and give up less yards per game than the Texans so far this year. Just about dead even scoring wise also, 25.7 Texans and 26.2 Titans. By no means is this going to be a defensive game, like the Bronco's and Ravens.

That's at least in part because everyone is running on you so you have the 4th fewest passing attempts against you.

Exactly. Last year the Chargers were first against the run but 30th against the pass because teams are always behind them. Same thing with the Broncos. Pass yards are very easy to accumulate in the 4th quarter when the game is effectivley over, on the other hand, rushing yards come when a team is killing the game off. Generally top D's have a great run D and a statisically average or poor pass D.
