So what are the Texans strengths?

I know they may not be really strong but if you are an opposing team what do you gameplan against and what do you try to do when facing the Texans?
 
Strengths:
David Carr is slightly mobile
Andre Johnson + Eric Moulds are good receiving threats with speed

Thats it
 
Receiver position

Special Teams has always outperformed the rest of the team since the beginning of the franchise. Hard to believe given some of the Kris Brown messes, but on average it isn't as bungling as it should be given the relative lack of talent on the team.
 
We don't have any strengths....

We have been passing well but I wouldn't call it a strength...
 
The Texans strengths are easily summarized.

They look marvelous in their uniforms and I am told some of them have beautiful singing voices. They also possess an endearing "permanent underdog" aura and can be brought into polite company without fear of embarrassing themselves. In short, they are housebroken.
 
They don't have Capers and Casserly anywhere near the team.

After reading about all the horrible decisions these two made over the years, thank goodness they are gone.

It will take a long time to clean up after them.
 
So it appears that we have no real football strengths. At best our passing game is the only bright spot. So if you are an opposing team you gameplan to take that away. That is what Dallas did.
 
The fans are the strength.

We never ask our coach to draft a hometown hero or a guy who runs 20 yards to make 4 yards.

We never character assassinate one of our marquee players only to be so very oddly quiet when he starts producing all of a sudden with a new head coach.

Yeah, I'd say that us Texans fans are in the corner for "our guys" and that's what keeps this team rocking and rolling.

Allegiance to our team is forsaken by the microwave mentality that screams for instant success and instant everything.

(bad credit card consolidation infomercial voice) "Why wait now when you can get that cash you NEED?! You deserve it. Cal us today and find out how you can get our of debt and still get the things you want and need!"

It takes time, guys. And I think we're finally seeing that in the NFL you do not make a winner overnight.

I understand the fears. I do. But all we can do is watch, and hope, and watch some more. Makes for good TV. hey, T.O. is right about one thing: Get your popcorn ready. I think we need to slow down somtimes and think like that every now and then: Enjoy it. It's entertainment. The world doesn't spin off its axis with how well "my" team does in the sportsworld every year.
 
The passing game is looking above average.

After that, you have to stretch a bit. Extreme youth on the defense, implies that there's a pretty big upside that could maybe be developed. Our best players are young, so age and the resulting injuries aren't going to be as much of a threat.

Hmm, then maybe special teams blocking.
 
I think the defense has the potential to become a strenght. Since Richard Smith pulled his head out of his @#$ and started blitzing, we have acctually played really well, even thought the 31 points in the second half at Dallas dosnt reflect that. I think they have the potential to be at least an average unit by year's end. And of course our one geniune strenght is AJ and the receiving corp.
 
from what I can tell from stats is that

Carrs improving but stats can be Deceiving

Andre Playing well

Future star at LB in Ryans

Last but not least I think yall got a stud in the draft with Owen Daniels but thats just me.

I think that is just the average football fan these days. In Dallas they booed the crap out of Bledsoe for every incompletion he threw and chanted "Romo."

I have always defended Houston as a great sports town, but I have come to realize that this town has become a bunch of frontrunning bandwagon fans. Don't tell me about how those teams were so much better; because, during part of both Phillips's and Glanville's tenures the Oilers sucked, and I don't remeber hearing a bunch of booing.

I kind of agree with part of this but disagree with another.

I've been to nearly every NFL game in Houston since Earl's first game here in 1978. A couple of points:

Of course the fans were rabid during the good years. It was because the team was good. The Dome was rocking during LYB and from '87-'93.

But the Dome was a tomb from '82-'85 and after the TN announcement. The crowds weren't as fanatic in the pre-Earl games I attended in '76 and '77 either.

This, in an unexpected way might reinforce your frontrunner theory - which isn't confined to Houston btw.

The part I agree with is that I don't recall choral booing during the bad Oilers years. But in most cases that was because people didn't show up or they were apathetic to the whole thing - waiting for the team to get good again (again reinforcing your first theory) - bringing the Sunday paper to read during games, and like yours truly, doing the seat improvement thing every year until I got my primo seats. I think in general, they as a group cared a bit less than we do now. Almost all of the don't care after 1981 was post-Bum fall out.

What we have now is a fan element that won't be in the stadium much longer if things don't turn around quickly. And if it doesn't turn around quickly Reliant will become a tomb just like the Dome was in '82-'85, until the team gets it going in the right direction. Yes I realize there will always be a die-hard core that will be there every game, thick and thin, rain, snow sleet ice, richer poorer, etc... I'll be one of them.

Oilers fans had to endure really bad teams but never for more than a 5 year stretch. We are rivaling the worst stretch of pro football ever in this city. Part of it is due to the expansion thing, yes, but it might as well be 2002 again this year in terms of the height of the mountain that needs to be climbed by this team. We're 3-19 in our last 22 games. The loser mentality seems to be transcending coaching eras. It's time for them to realize that when you're at the bottom of a hole you need to stop digging.

As far as the Texans strengths? Shiner Bock on tap. Nice helmets. Pretty tickets. Good stadium. Good tailgate environment. Cool video intro. DeMeco Ryans... let me get back to you on the rest.

Having lived here all your life, then you know when a team wins-it has all the support in the world.

When it loses, they have no support whatsoever.


Dallas fans were booing Bledsoe halfway in the FIRST quarter Sunday.

I'll have to agree with a previous post and say the Battle Red jerseys are our best asset. I have 3 of them...still have to decide which to wear on Sunday.
