A. Peterson's dad finally sees son

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Playing in front of his father for the first time in college, Oklahoma tailback Adrian Peterson scored a touchdown on his third carry Saturday against Iowa State.

On his first carry, Peterson took a handoff to the left, then cut back to the right for a 40-yard gain to set up the No. 23 Sooners with first-and-goal at the 9. After a 3-yard pickup, he ran left and dodged three diving Cyclones to score from 6 yards out.

I heard they said AP broke his collar-bone......

haven't seen any confirmation though.
 
Better to come out now while his value is still high. If he comes back and has another injury, what would that do this value?
 
No way. He's gonna go back to Oklahoma to salvage his stock. He has to.

And he is durable. Breaking your collarbone has nothing to do with wear and tear or being prone to injuries. It's something that can happen to anyone when you're tackled the wrong way.

If he had nagging knee injuries, or a recurring shoulder problem, then we can talk about durability. Collarbone is a freak accident.

He had a shoulder injury...in high school. And then the ankle injury last year. Now it's a collarbone.

If he comes back next year and it's a knee, what happens to his stock then? He's gone.
 
Maybe he will come back on his dad's advice or something. His dad just got out of jail, maybe he will want Adrian to finish college. He hasn't seen his son play many college football games.

Just saw the run on ESPN where the injury occured, and it was a tremendous,
long run for a TD. Did not look like he was even touched, but he dived or fell after getting in the EZ. I dunno, maybe it was a celebration, if so very expensive ecelbration ? The kid is a tremendous runner.
No question he's still a first rounder in the 2007 Draft, but he will drop some do to the injury. Main thing, not a knee or leg injury of any type.

Or maybe his dad will want to help him spend his first signing bonus.

If he does decide to come out, I predict a Willis McGahee type fall. McGahee would have gone from probably a top 5 pick to getting drafted near the end of the first round (20th pick or something).

McGahee's injury was much different than this. As long as he can prove he's healthy a team will still probably take him in the top 10. Now I wouldn't mind if he dropped enough that Kubiak took a shot at him...I don't think it would happen but if we're drafting in the 10 range and there isn't a worthy DB or OL on the board, I would put a lot of consideration into it.
 
what a shame, diving when he did not need to and now out for the year

and when they say out until a bowl game, without him there will not be a bowl game

I saw the replay, and a defender hit his leg which made him fall into the endzone wrong, and even if he did jump into the endzone that to me is not showboating he just scored a great TD, and showboating to me is when somebody does something excessive this was not excessive.
 
Dang. He is a great runner. Too bad he broke his collerbone though. If he comes out, maybe he will drop to the Texans.
 
he's coming out... he'll have a great combine... and he'll still go top 10-top 5 depending on needs... two things that worry me... he exposes himself for tons of hits and needs a little extra room to hit the hole at full speed, as he lines up a little deeper than normal.

I'm afraid the NFL isn't particularly kind to Earl/Payton types, players are too strong now, and they just take too many hits. Ricky Williams enjoys contact but he has verry good feet and decent elusiveness. He keeps a low pad level, falls forward, and never gets stood up/ made an easy target of. LT is the new prototype franchise back. Gimme a guy who runs/catches like that.
 
i still don't see him running the combine at all. he's a top 5 pick in everyone's minds regardless of this.

Uh-heh. If his Dad gives him career advise about staying or going into the Draft, or advise about anything, lets just hope that AD ignores it. Coming out
of the Big-House after 8 years, probably not a good advisor or anykind of role-model for young AD. Hopefully he'll listen to what his coachs have to
tell him.

You really can't say that, From what i understand AD & his father confirmed that His father was never really out of his life while in prison. That means that AD probably was getting advice from his father while his dad was on lock down.

Whatever the situation is, I feel bad for the kid since he is now done for the season. One of my favorite players to watch in College Football sans RB, & Vick.

There will be a bowl game. OU has a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way.

Oct. 21 - Colorado
Oct. 28 - @ Missouri
Nov. 4 - @ Texas A&M
Nov. 11 - Texas Tech
Nov. 18 - @ Baylor
Nov. 25 - @ Ok. State

OU should be able to beat Colorado, Baylor, and Oklahoma State pretty easily. That would give them 7 wins at the least. Tech has been unimpressive thus far and even without Adrian Peterson I think OU has enough talents (and they're a better team) beat Missouri and probably A&M. I can see them going undefeated the rest of the way. At most, two loses which would still give them a record of 8-4. Not OU standards recently, but they'll make a bowl game.

heck Joppru had NO injuries in college and look what he got in pros... Willie M for buffalo blew out his knee and so far no injuries..

so who knows
 
I don't think it was a "showboat" dive. The defenders were at his legs and he was already kind of falling some. He dove for the endzone like he is suppose to.

I agree with alot of what you are saying. He leaves himself prone to being nailed. But, I disagree about him being a Payton/Earl. AP has great footwork. Look how he beat the guy with a juke to make the big run. He does that in every game.
 
Well, Payton had better feet than AP in my opinion... I'm just saying the guys who look to take out tacklers instead of eluding them have a lot of trouble now. I'm advocating Tomlinson/Barber every down backs, not Westbrook/Bush types when I say that.

I was thinking about Peterson last night, watching some of his runs, and what is clear is he has great hips. Very smooth and lethal change of direction in the open field, not dissimilar to Vince Young actually. He's not like Reggie Bush with dramatic cut back ability, but he changes direction seamlessly at full speed.
