Zone Blocking Colleges

What schools use the ZBS that Kubiak wants to use? I've heard of Oklahoma state, USC, Minnesota but I'm not totally sure if they even do. It would make sense to pick these guys (O-Linemen and RB's) up so they arn't lost and at least have an idea of what kubiak wants to do.

I know that Notre Dame uses it on some plays, but im pretty sure for the most part they don't

I know for sure Florida State does, but I think they only started using it this year. Or maybe it was last year. I read an article about Florida State and their pitiful running game a few weeks ago on Sports Illustrated's website. They use it but apparently they aren't very good at it.

There is more than one way to run the zone blocking scheme (ZB). The Dallas Cowboys of Jimmy Johnson used one. It utilized big slow linemen. Most ZB teams use this type of player.

The Broncos http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5913890use the system with smaller quicker linemen. They utilize the chop block, Pendry did not use this effective block and thus his system did not work or look like the current one we are putting place.

The ZB is only used for running and a little in play action, but the OL still has to man up in pass blocking. With smaller quicker guys the roll out and play action becomes more important.

So the answer was given to say, most colleges use some form of zone blocking, but few use it the way Kubiak is going to utilize it, only Minnesota uses something close to the Texans system to my knowledge.

Before Mac McWhorter replaced Tim Nunez as the OL coach at Texas, they ran the zone blocking. They used to travel to Denver each summer to get notes from Shanahan's staff. Problem was, Mack was recruiting the wrong type of OL for that system (plus Nunez wasn't a very effective coach). Once McWhorter took over and installed a drive blocking OL, their running game took off.
