Our Houston Texans are getting prepared to do battle with the rival Dallas Cowboys this Sunday, in Dallas. It will be a very hard fought and physical matchup.
Dallas obviously has a very good team constructed this year, and here is my preview of the Dallas Cowboys...
Let's start with the Dallas Cowboys offense. They are a very productive unit, averaging 28 points per game, ranking 3rd in the NFL.
Cowboys QB Drew Bledsoe is currently under some fire in Dallas for his starting role, having struggled some late. He certainly has experience, a 14-year veteran. Through 4 games, Drew Bledsoe has 5 TD passes, but 7 INTs. His QB rating of 63.6 ranks 27th in the NFL.
Drew Bledsoe has been sacked 10 times in these first four games, showing he is very immobile. When pressured correctly, the opposing team has a healthy probility to either come away with a sack or force Bledsoe to throw an interception. Be cautious though, when given time, Bledsoe has that laser rocket arm and can certainly find receivers and make big this happen for his offense.
As usual, a Bill Parcells coached team always has a pretty solid running game. This team is no acception, and have two young, very talented running backs. Juluis Jones and Marion Barber. Both are very productive, Juluis Jones sees msot of the reps during the game, and he is averaging a great 4.5 yards per carry. Jones has also seemed to find a way to take care of the football a little more this season.
As for Marion Barber, he is more of a power type back and would be used more in short yardage or goal line situations.
In terms of the Dallas Cowboys wideouts, I think we all know who the big ones area. Terrel Owens and Terry Glenn. Terrel Ownes is extremely talented, obviously a tremendous playmaker, perhpas that is why he has 5 Pro Bowl appearances. His size is also a tremendous asset.
Terry Glenn is a hugely talented WR for Dallas obviously as well. With Drew Bledsoe's strong arm and Glenn's speed downfield, Glenn can make some huge plays. Through these first four games, Terry Glenn has 20 receptions, nearly 300 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Cowboys offensive weakness in their offense line. This is obviously another reason QB Drew Bledsoe gets pressured often. In short, injuries combinded with departures of key veterans has overall weakened this o-line some.
Defene for the Dallas Cowboys, they have a rather young unit, run the 3-4, and I have read that Parcell's version of this 4-3 defense relies on the outside linebackers to bring pressure off the edge with the three defensive lineman getting blockers off the inside linebackers to make some tackles.
The Cowboys defensive line features some good talent including Jason Feurgeson, Chris Canty and Marcus Spears. This is a very effective defense line in this leauge.
Another key player of this Dallas D is Outside Linebacker Demarcus Ware. He has nearly 3 sacks already this season, and is well on his way to exceeding his mark of 8 last season.
Another key defensive lineman for Dallas is Braddie James. Already this season, James has collected 17 tackles and a pic six. He is a very aggresive player, seems to always make the tackle, alothough he was exposed as wee seen in the Cowboys loss to Philadelphia last game.
In terms of Dallas's Cornerbacks, this area is led by Terrance Newman. He has tremendous athletisism and great ball skills. He is such a big threat that opposing offene's have tended to shy away from his some so far this year, and as a result, he is yet to have an interception, however, is very capable of making that huge play. At times some say Newman is to much of a risk taker.
The other Dallas CB, Anthony Henry is a solid player. He tries to jame opposing WR's at the line sometimes, he is also a tremendous tackler. He is a physical player at 6-1 208 lbs, and has 20 career interceptions. Like Terrance Newman, Anthoney Henry's flaw may be taking to many risks.
The leader of this Cowboy's D is no doubt, Safety Roy Williams. He is 220 pounds, and is known for laying big hits on opposing WR's for going over the middle, and sometimes causing fumbles. His pass defense is said to need work, but he can certainly defend the pass.
Special Teams for Dallas, Kicker Mike Vanderjact is very reliable, one of the best in the game, when is healthy though, which has been a problem for him as of late. The Cowboys punter is Matt McBair who is stepping up and getting the job done as punter.
Again, I am looking foward to this game, it's a big game for our Houston Texans and will be a very hard fought game.
