Kubiak gave the guys a few days off, because they won, and because he wanted to spend some time with the coaches, and work somethings out.

What kind of changes do you think they'll be making??
What kind of changes do you hope they'll be making??

Offensively, Since it appears David is doing better with timing routes, scripted plays, and hurry up kind of things, I would look to pass the ball more. Not that we have been running the ball a lot, only 5 teams have tried to run less than we have, But I think we'll see more single back sets, with lots of recievers. We'll establish a WCO passing attack out of these formations, & run from these same formations. We'll get bigger yards, control the clock, keep games closer, and run the ball more.

Defensively, I don't know what they are thinking, I don't have a clue what they will do, but I want to get Buchannon on the field as a corner. But Sanders has earned a starting spot, and Dunta is better than McLeon. I'd move Sanders to FS, and put Buchannon in his CB spot. In Nickel situations, Simmons comes in as FS, Sanders goes out to CB, and Dunta comes down as the nickel back.

"The situation at left tackle has to be a little unnerving this early in the season, and especially facing the Cowboy pass rush next week. Their sack totals are ranked in about the middle of the league, but the teams haven't been throwing the ball much at them. Football Outsiders has the Dallas pass rush ranked fifth on their adjusted scale. "

DeMarcus Ware is going to be a real challenge for whoever lines up against him in Irving in a couple weeks.
This Salaam guy is kinda the same level of talent as Victor Riley (remember
Victor from the Capers years), and if Winston has to try to block him, dang
DC you better break out your flak jacket for that scenario to.
Maybe 6 or 7 months ago I remember watching Winston in the Senior Bowl
trying to block edge rusher and fellow rookie Daryl Tapp, and Winston got
his clock cleaned. Ware will be Tapp, but in spades.

I hope they plug Simmons in at FS, rush Peek more, spread out the defense, and keep the linebackers in tight.

That isn't even close to accurate. Salaam is a low end of the league LT but he has 8 years of experience at the position. Riley was a marginal RT with lead feet who Pendry attempted to convert to LT.

Maybe a better thread title would be, Are changes coming?

No, I'm pretty sure changes are coming. I believe that was what he said on his radio show, part of the reason why they are getting so much time off.

they may not be as drastic as what I and some others are speculating, but there are going to be some changes.

You're exactly right Infantrycak, and I stand corrected.
Even though Salaam is surely on the downside of his career, he does have
substancial starting experience as a LT in recent years, so its not like the position is a puzzle to him as it probably was for Riley.
And Riley was a RT, a glorified guard who never played the LT, or atleast very little.
How soon I forgot about Riley's background. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

He said it in his radio show.

He didn't say that he was definitely making changes. He said that they were going to use part of the bye for the coaching staff to see what is working and not working and make adjustments accordingly.

It's what coaches do during the bye week.

Time to assess, reassess, and adjust as necessary.

I would be surprised if there weren't some tweaks here and there ...

I agree with getting Buchanon on the field but my reasoning is because Sanders has lost a starting spot. He hasn't played well at all. He's nothing more than a nickel corner. He shouldn't be starting in this league. Hopefully Faggins will be back for the Cowboys game (he's nothing more than a nickel corner also, but he's a better nickel corner) but if not I hope Buchanon gets at least some playing time at CB.

If Salaam is healthy, I don't see any changes being made on the offensive side of the ball.

However, on the defensive side, we need to get a stronger push up the middle & TJ isn't getting the job done. I could see Weaver being moved to LDT, next to Mario, & Babin moved into the starting RDE role, with Peek coming in for him on 3rd & long situations.

At the CB position, I could see McCleon getting the nod over Lewis. Maybe, they'll take a look at Ahmad Carroll.

At LB, I can't see any changes happening until Wong comes back. Not because I don't think some changes are in order, but because I don't feel we have any better options available to us. Not, unless we pick up someone in free agency, that is. By the way, Robert McCune is on Washington's practice squad. I'd sure love to see us pick him up. That would allow us to plug him in at MLB & move DeMeco to the outside.

While looking at what players are on practice squads, I discovered that Nehemiah Broughton is also on Washington's practice squad. I wonder if he'd be a good fit on the Texans? He reportedly has good speed, & at 5'11" 255lbs., would be a load to bring down. He'd definitely be a good short yardage back for us.

Oh well, just some idle ramblings from a bored Texans fan.

Good GOD. He is an inch taller then me and a little over 90 lbs heavier?!

I think Gado will start at RB, and if so, I expect to see more of Sherman's GB style man blocking versus zone blocking.

Since I got dinged by a member who loves to ding me and you mention this here, it is because there are sites that do save audio files or provide transcripts. I know it is crazy in this year two thousand and six for unfrozen caveman message board poster to understand this concept. Hopefully his knuckles have not dragged on the ground and therefore has free range of motion to put phalanges to plastic.

Well that 1 flew over my knuckel dragging head.

Buchanan can't find the ball in flight. He can't tackel. So if you want more confirmation, fine by me. If you can stand it, I can. I'm in a war in another thread over our MLB's training on the fly. No thirty yard plus plays given up against the cow -pokes, I'll shut the heck up. I got five on two as the over under. The guy can not take on and shed NFL gaurds and centers. Julius Jones should go off next week fantasy guys. Spencer was the real deal. And was well on his way to ROY considerastion. One of our off the scrap heap RBs took care off that. So you can cry all you want. But the o-line is what it is this year. I've been in that war on the draft boards for five years now. Gamble on the o-line in the draft live with the consequnces durring the season. They are playing well over thier heads for the tallent level IMHO. I give them four stars over the last two games. No love for fifth round pick Hodgdon Texas' fans ? Mind Boggeling. I picked up a cold tuesday at jury duty. Anyone can sneak me in to the ranch, I'll be glad to infect them all. All we got this year is Carr going agaisnt a banged up or weak o-line that our defense can compete with. I get four or five wins under that scenario.

Yes, Kubiak will come to the conclusion we are not running the ball enough. We must gain another .1 of a yard so that we can run the ball 4 times before giving it up to the other team. We are a 4 down team with the running game.

...let's hope so, and this is not the same 'get our hopes up' game Capers played with us for 4 yrs--too, though, Dom loved to 'change' things that were'nt broke, instead of improving them, which is why- at the end-just about every part of the team was worse than when we started...

Well nunusguy I saw that too and if I remember correctly that was the only time he got beat all day, not to mention that in the VT game against Miami Winston took Tapp to school. All I will say is put the kid in and watch him work. Everyone gets beat once in a while but hopefully no one will get beat constantly like Bedell does!!!

I've seen a new and improved TJ this year. He's been much more disruptive than before. All in all, the DLine seems to be getting a better as time goes on. My biggest worry is that, after Demeco, our next 2 leading tacklers are in the secondary. Maybe that will change as the DLine continues to improve. Also, I hope the Dolphins game was a coming out party, of types, for Mario and he continues to make some plays.

IMO, don't hold your breath for any major changes--however, it would be nice if something was done on the defensive side of the ball...

I expect it to be more of a "that play never really worked, so let's throw it out" sort of thing. I'm hoping that a defensive unit with more pressure will come out of the bye-week. IMO, it's probably the best thing for the team.
