Fox Sports QB Clutch Factor

good fine.
I can't wait when Texans got the running game. Carr will be even better then.

Unless we can somehow bring in a better back through a trade or free agency, I don't see our running game improving this season.

...maybe if Lundy and Gado learn the playbook and system....

Lundy is inactive and should know the playbook by now anyway, he has been here as long as the rest of the guys on offense under Kubiak's new system, Carr, AJ, etc. had to learn the new system as well. And Gado has to at least know the blocking system, it's the same one Sherman used in Green Bay. And Dayne played under Kubiak in Denver so he should be somewhat familiar with our system.

Just because you liked Morency better doesn't mean logic wouldn't say the running game shouldn't improve as the OL gets together, the RB's get used to the OL and the opposition softens. Not saying anything about Morency but don't crawl out on a limb with a saw--they have no where to go but up (caveat--except for one opinion).

He's still a rookie.

Dayne and Gado should at least be familiar with the system we are running with Kubiak and Sherman since Dayne played under Kubiak and Gado under Sherman. I just don't think the failure of the running game can be blamed 100% on the offensive line, especially since I have seen Gado and Dayne miss holes and make other mistakes. This really has nothing to do with me being upset about trading Morency, I will take any back who can step up and get the job done and these two haven't done it. As far as the opposition softening, Indy has one of the worst run defenses in the NFL, allowing 155 rushing yards per game on average, Dayne, Gado, and Lundy combined for 98 yards against Indy's defense.

Doesn't matter, he should know the playbook by now, being a rookie is no excuse.

Lundy can no the playbook backwards and forwards but it would be nice if he would actually show flashes of potential. I think his longest run was for about 10 yards and that was during garbage time just to run out the clock to go into halftime. I think that was our first game of the season.

That is exactly what I'm saying. He hasn't shown flashes of anything from what I have seen...

Holy cow. A David Carr thread has turned into a thread about how our running game needs to improve.

Wow, what a difference a year makes.

GO TEXANS!!!!!!!

Our running game will start to develop more consistency once the passing game gets to where it's heading. When defenses have to concentrate more on our receivers and TE's, that'll open up your 5-7 yard gains in the running attack. :wild:

Look out...

That miraculous turnaround is just around the corner!:whip:

How bout doing yourself a favor and sticking a "YET" at the end of that statement.

This coaching staff hasn't done too bad of a job improving the passing game up to this point. Why is it that you're so sure that they can't improve the running game as well?

I don't care if it is a vet or an undrafted rookie free agent, as long as they can get the job done. I am not saying the problem is the coaches or the system, the problem is Dayne and Gado.

And again, why is it that you believe that neither Dayne nor Gado will get better in the future? Afterall, it's not like as if they've been here since Day 1 of training camp. Why is it that you're so sure they won't improve their production if you don't have an issue with the coaches or the system?

You're giving up on it too early, IMO.

Sorry I don't buy the "they haven't been here long enough" excuse, especially when Gado played under Sherman and Dayne under Kubiak. Morency had the same amount of time in Green Bay as Gado has had here and Morency rushed for 99 yards Monday night.

So much for getting AD in the draft.

It is nice not knowing which pick you'll end up having though

I think our run game is awful right now primarily because of our backs. Ron Dayne's always good for dragging the pile a few yards, which is a good thing, because he doesn't have the speed to get out of the backfield before he's hit. Our line can and does fail occasionally on an assignment but IMO when I watch the gametape, more often than not, there are lanes created that Dayne and/or Gado just plain ol don't get to or fail to see.

We really miss Davis right about now -- he wasn't a burner but he was at least quick enough to hit the hole -- and again at the risk of beating a long dead horse, I think Morency was a far superior runner to either Gado or Dayne. Gado's improving IMO is our best hope at this point because Dayne is permanently stuck in first gear and Gado at least has the speed to potentially break away when he can get to the next level.

But seriously folks, Dayne gives me the impression of a guy that receives the hand-off and looks for someone to run into .... which lately is easily accomplished ...

Thank you. Post of the year. Excellent post.

Carr has been doing much better, not outstanding, but better. As coach says, he still has a lot to learn. There's been a noticable difference in the way he's playing this year and I like it! If he'd just hang on to the football for Pete's sake! LOL!:)

As for Dayne and Gado, I have only one thing to add. There's a reason why they were the second or third team RB for thier previous teams. I'm not sure what the reasons are but it has to make one think, right?:twocents:

Can he play a zone? We should make him a linebacker.

Seems to me maybe Kubiak and Sherman might, might be getting carried away bringing in some of their old players for whatever reason, but it went from bringing in Putzier and Flanagan to bringing in Dayne and Gado.

Yea... he took Spencer out for the entire season. :ouch:

David is surprising me. I could never have dreamed that he would play so well. Deep in the Carr threads of old is the proof that I believed it could happen, though.

DC = :superman:

Interesting. The difference between Carr(#1-28) and McNabb(#2-52.5) is greater than the difference between #2 and #10(75).

Atleast they didn't put a "Yeah right" comment next to it this week.

Wow, he is not only number 1 in those rankings, he is far and away ahead of everyone else. All hail Kubiak, the man understands QB's, now if only he could play linebacker....
