Demeco Ryans

Texans34Life

I BLEED TEXANS!
Another great game.

7 tackles, 0.5 sacks for 3.5 yards (should of been 1).

My vote for AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Yep, that sack was his.

DeMeco was a wonderful pickup, and the DROY is possible. I shudder to think of what our LB corps would be like without him; he is single-handedly defining that unit right now. Though maybe it's just the homer in me, but I wouldn't be surprised if Mario finishes strongly and captures the title.

It's not that Mario had "1.5" sacks today against the awful Dolphins -- frankly I'd be sincerely concerned if he didn't get one -- but just that IMO his skills are improving and he will only get substantially better as the year goes on, with more skill work and live snaps to cure him of overthinking every play.

He definately was the defensive MVP of today's game (did I just say defensive MVP while referring to the Texans?!?!?). His tackle on Ronnie Brown after the turnover by Carr was crucial in forcing Miami to settle for a FG. The Texans still have tackling issues which could prove to be costly, but Ryans is by far the best of the bunch as of now.

Robinson is not looking good right now. Safe to say that we need to draft some CB's next year.

dunta got abused in every aspect today. he played horrible football. towards the end of the game as the announcers were describing the poor tackling and guys "flying past the ball", they were describing dunta in one of many missed tackles. for a guy known as one guy that really lays the wood, he spent most of the game laying down trying to grab shoestrings.

I've said all along that d-rob wasn't a good cover corner...I know he missed some tackles today, but D-Rob is still the man when it comes to tackling, and I think he is still a good corner...

Very dissapointed with Drob today on some plays, but I think the secondary as a whole had its best game. On many of our sacks Cullpeper had to hang on to the ball because no one was open.

i think he's a solid corner and will be a great corner. he had a bad game today though, and i was very disappointed in the poor tackling from arguably our best hitter. the defense around him played great though and i think that's going to fuel his fire. it's a shame we're off next week, i think our defense just got very hungry.

D-Rob was second on the team with 6 tackles...I personally think he had a good game tackling wise....

D-Rob had a bad game but he got srewed on the crossing play when Booker dropped the ball. The other reciever chipped D-Rob while trailing Booker, that should have been called. He's going to bounce back after this no doubt bout it!!

I think this guy will be one of the TOP MLB's down the line...He already is IMO the top defensive rookie.

Just wait until Wong gets back and then we will have two good LBs. Imagine the defense then.

Hopefully, Wong DOES come back soon. He will def upgrade our LB crew. Is it just me or is Greenwood and Orr just observing. I see them make an occasional tackle but man, where are they? May need to throw Peek back there when he returns on on some blitz packages.

I was about to call you soft in the head for making this suggestion, but if all else fails.....

why not let him play a few downs at OLB? See how it goes.

Orr for sure, plus don't think Wong is fast enough to replace Greenwood at WLB.:twocents:

Wong would be a SLB. Personally, I really don't see him coming back a 100% this year. If he were to come back, it would be for spot play.:twocents:

Back on topic: D-Ryans has my vote all the way. I've been for this guy since he played for Bama. I watched him tear up my Red Raiders and didn't really mind it.:)

he's been doing good for my fantasy team...averaging me 8 points a week. d. ryans was a great find, and congrats to the texans for pickin' him up.

We need to draft a lot of good young college players next year. I certainly hope we don't get the #1 again, but chances are we'll draft high, maybe very
high. And unlike this year, I hope we trade the pick for multiple first day picks.

DeMeco is Def ROY shoo-in. In my opinion, if he can add an interception return to his resume and continue, he could get in the Pro Bowl as an alternate/injury replacement this year. The only problem is there are a bunch of good AFC MLBs out there..but if enough drop out *shrugs shoulders*...but i think ROY is a distinct possiblity.

dougftw

the thing about roy is that he is going to have to compete against lawrence maroney...who is starting to etch his name into roy award. i'd say, barring injury, demeco wins droy.

Hawk has made some plays but not at the frenquency and level of quality that DeMeco has. Both guys are somewhat handicapped by playing on bad defenses...but this actually can help skew their own individual tackle totals upwards....Ryans is doing a pretty good job pressuring the QB while Hawk is more the fireplug MLB with more responsibility, I know they let DeMeco run around from what I have seen...we got a lot more value at #33 than they did at #5..lets put it that way. Give me SEC over Big10 anyday anyway....

doug ftw

Unlike this year, you'd have to have someone willing to trade and it would depend on who is avail at our selection. BTW, I was originally for a trade down and pick up of D'Brick.

I don't know if yall noticed but in the huddles he is the leader....

He seems very vocal and seems to be the one holding what defense we have together..

He reminds me of Polamalu in that he is in almost every play and a fierce competitor...

I AM A D-RYANS Fan now

Also, Hawk will be playing a monday night game today, so alot more people will be watching, if he makes a few plays and if the commentators talk him up it will boost his DROY chances, Demeco has to play well enough to counter the hype that other teams generate on a regular basis.

The team was in our endzone when the Texans had just given up that long TD pass that burned Dunta. DeMeco was audibly yelling at the whole team and keeping them focused, he was pumping his fist and pointing at the field and teammates and shaking his head 'No' as if to say 'not in our house'.

We were just far enough away that you couldnt hear exactly what he was saying but he was frothing at the mouth with competitiveness...it was a sight to behold and thanks in part to the Dolphin's great playcall allowed us to get a hard fought win at home....it was a glorious thing..thank God for good ole fashioned pride

where as hawk will be playing on monday night...i don't see hawk being all that impressive. i don't think he has the spunk like d. ryans does. hawk will get a lot of tackles because the eagles will be putting up big numbers on offense. ryans had the same start, but yesterday, he proved that he could put up big numbers against a weaker offense. jmo.

I'm all for DeMeco winning DROY or Mario coming on to create serious competition, but what intriques me is the collective mindset of the team, specificly the defensive unit. I really like what I'm seeing from the defensive lineman & linebackers. Drob has been sticking out like a sore thumb at times because he is not just on an island its a freaking continent all alone, there is little to no support over the top. In short he needs another corner and free safety then the collective would be whole :bowser:

The play that really got me going on Demeco was when he stood that guy up at the goal line until someone else (Greenwood? Earl?) could run in and strip the ball out. I forget which game that was in. I think it was the Colts. But that play showed me the guts I want to see in a football player. He easily could have given up and let the guy in but he just kept holding on and trying.

He's made some errors. Sometimes he over-pursues. Sometimes he gets out of position. He totally missed an interception that he should have caught that ended up being a big play for the Skins.

But he's already a good player and he's just getting better and better.

Ryans doesn't have to compete with Maroney for a ROY award. An award is given to 1 player on each side of the ball. The fan award is given to 1 player, but it's based on voting by the fans and is usually a popularity contest.

The only thing that will hurt Demeco's chances at DROY will be our overall bad defense. Merriman, Vilma, Suggs, and Peppers all played for pretty good defensive units.

Im all for Demeco Ryans getting DROY and just a little FYI Hawk hasn't done much in the big spotlight...he has 2 tackles late in the 3rd qtr.

I'd replace Greenwood. He is absolutely clueless on coverages and has poor instincts for the play.
Wong really doesn't have the footspeed for the will backer imo. The Sam is in worse shape in any case. Orr is a 3-4 tweener and looks lost in space at times.

Getting Wong in there, along with Faggins is really going to help this defense. It may be day-after euphoria talking, but I think we may get to 7 wins this year after all. It's nice to see a team actually improving during the season- and that's certainly what's happening right now. Adding some veteran leadership at a weak position will really help this defense. Oh, if only we still had Marlon McCree.

We got the most dificult part of our schedule done and we should get some help from Faggins coming back---and hopefully the benching of CC Brown. Wong and Mathis shouldn't really help us much this year, Mathis would be at best a fourth reciever and the only thing Wong could really help us with is leadership.

We do need to replace Greenwood. He is not working out for the Texans.

That is also true. Wong will need to be replaced if not this season but next. IMO.

The favorites for DROY of the year right now are probably Scott in Baltimore because he's playing with a great defense, maybe Kamerion Wimbley in Cleveland and Mark Anderson in Chicago. Demeco's in the running and there are a lot of games to go.

I think Demeco is one of the best steals in the draft and if he continues to improve will at least be a top contender for DROY. I actually like the idea of letting Peek play LB, especially in blitz situations. I love peek but I dont think he is under control enough to play defensive end in the NFL. Maybe he will get there, he defiantely has the will and the heart. Give him the benefit of the sepeartion at LB and let him be our QB-seeking missle. I think he played the role well quite a bit last year. I would really like to see Babin step things up though, he has been kinda a non-entity so far.
