Andre Johnson is the best WR in the NFL

Andre had a man-sized game today. Prior to this season I would have called him a top-5 WR, but he's really put up numbers for us so far. If he can do it with consistency across the season I'd call him top-3, but just being honest, #1? I'm not sure he's shown that yet.

I still remember a bunch of nincompoops calling me out when I called him "T.O without the attitude." Tell me I'm wrong. Plays the exact same big, physical, fast game.

Looking at the wide receivers in the league, it is hard to point out one that is definatly better than Andre.

Moss isnt himself in Oakland, and T.O...for all his ability.. his attitude is a big minus for him.

Chad Johnson maybe? I dunno.. id have to agree that Andre Johnson is the best WR in the league.. but hes probably tied with 2 or 3 others.

I think a majority of the board has always been high on Dre.

Steve Smith is another top candidate you have to consider IMO, as well as Marvin Harrison though his age is slowing him. Andre does many great things and should be one of our brightest stars for years to come (and will continue to get better), but he is still somewhat unpolished IMO.

AJ is a very good receiver, but Moulds is helping AJ a lot right now. You have two very good receivers who make each other look better. That is why I like our receiver core. Add in Walters and Daniels and you have very effective combinations which make each other look even better. Its a team game and AJ is benifiting from Team Play.............

"A bunch" was probably only "a few," but I still remember the thread.

Well, every single player has supporters and detractors. It is easy for the vocal few to seem to be many. I just don't think you were fighting an uphill battle on this board talking about Dre being a great player.

lol no kidding.

Nah, just commenting. Feel free to ignore my half-cooked boasts. :)

yah i know its homerish, but really can you name any WR in the league that is definatly better than Johnson?

Ok, ill say this..there probably are some veterans that are better.. like Marvin Harrison.. but of the young recievers that will very soon be the best WRs in the league when the old farts start retiring.. I couldnt name anyone that is better than Johnson. I could name some guys equally good..but no one better.

I agree with you Ibar, and if Johnson makes the Pro Bowl, (and he will if he keeps playing like this) I think he will owe alot to Moulds. Moulds has taken alot of pressure off Dre and I think his leadership/friendship, with not only Dre but Carr too, will pay big dividends for the whole team. Just hope it translates into more wins. Also, good to see Walters starting to make some plays too!

He is on pace for over 1600 yards and 8 TD's and has gone over 100 yards 3 out of 4 games. I think right now he is playing better then any other receiver and, other then Steve Smith maybe, means more to his team then any other wide receiver in the league. He has been about 40% of our passing offense the last two weeks. With a little more consistency he has the potential to be the best.

Another fantastic game from Andre!!! He is leading this team by example...I think Andre is going to carry this team on his shoulders the rest of the year.

Marvin Harrison
Torry Holt
Chad Johnson
Steve Smith
Larry Fitzgerald

But yeah, Dre is on his way.

Don't forget Santana Moss guys.

Anyway, Johnson is carrying this offense right now. I mean, just imagine this offense without AJ. Yea, that's scary. It would be tough to move the ball with out him. I remember before the season, some people on this board were saying AJ needed to be cut!!

I like the fact that AJ is on our team and often look away from some of his shortcomings. But the best in the NFL at WR is not something I am signing onto.

I wouldn't go that far, but I do think AJ is working his way into the elite group of NFL receivers.

That catch he made in double coverage at the 6 was big time and probably my favorite play of the day. Not the best pass in the world but considering Carr got nailed on the play I'm glad it was even catchable. Perfect timing and positioning by AJ.

If we had a good running game AJ and Moulds would destroy most teams. Can you imagine the play action we could achieve?

Its too hard to judge a WR because their play depends on the QB so much more than any other position.

The Best WRS (in no particular order)
Steve Smith
AJ
Chad Johnson
Torry Holt
Hines Ward
Larry Fitzgerald
Randy Moss
TO
Marvin Harrison

Marvin Harrison.

After that I would agree with Jerek about top 3. TO has a slight edge at #2 and Chad Johnson is having an off year. Steve Smith is good but AJ is better and all HWard does is catch TD passes.(Any Chris Carter fans out there? )

Before the season I was busting on AJ's chops for not being able to catch and get open but so far this year he has done one heck of a job.

He keeps this up he will have over 1600 yards for the season.

smith is the best..aj is the best BIG receiver along with TO and Moss...chad is not as good imo

Small Boys:
Smith
Moss

Big Boys:
Terrell Owens
Andre Johnson
Chad Johnson

My list would be:
1. Terrell Owens
2. Steve Smith
3. Andre Johnson
3a. Chad Johnson
4. Santana Moss

Strictly based on skills. T.O. is the most talented WR in the NFL without a doubt. From a physical standpoint, there is no equal. BUT.....and before people start jumping on me.... BUT you cannot discount the personal aspect of his game. He is a cancer and a malcontent that I would not want on my team. So from that standpoint, I would drop T.O. out of the top five when you consider the total package.

Smith #1
AJ #2

Randy Moss small?

Glad to see him adjust to the ball like most of the elite receivers do in this league and also good concentration on the TD, that probably negates the takeaway he gave up. He's being targeted a lot this year and Moulds is making him all that much better, but still not the in the top 10 in the league.

WR Andre Johnson

(on the game) “I feel great. We were able to get a win today. You know we have been hearing a lot of criticism and things like that. Everybody went out and did everything they can to go out and get this victory.”

(on what happened when the offense got going in the second half) “One thing about this game is you just can’t be one dimensional. The coaches stress running the ball, and when you’re a receiver you always want the ball. You get a little controversy, but nothing with coach or anything like that. We were able to make some plays downfield and the runners were able to make some good runs today, and I think it kind of kept them off balance today.”

(on whether he would like more passing) “I think they compliment each other. Some people say you need to run the ball to open up the pass, but I think it works both ways. I think you just have to start off with whatever works.”

(on Coach Kubiak saying that he could not get Johnson the ball enough) “Anybody likes when the ball comes to them, especially when you’re a wide receiver. I’m just thankful for every opportunity that I get. You know in the first three games (this season), I have never had this many opportunities to make plays. When Coach Kubiak first got here and I met with him, he told me that he was going to give me opportunities to make plays. So what he said, he’s doing. He’s giving me the opportunity, so I’m just going out and trying to do the best I can with it.”

(on whether he was making catches when the Dolphins were blitzing or while he was double teamed) “It was both. It really didn’t matter. I think Coach Kubiak does a good job of mixing things around, and not just being in the same spot all the time. I’m in the slot one play, outside the next play, or in the slot two plays, then outside. He just mixes everything around.”

(on whether his alignments are helping him excel) “In order to give a receiver opportunities, you can’t just keep him in one spot during the game. You can only run so many routes from one spot. I think by him moving me around, (and) he doesn’t just do it to me, he does it to (WR) Eric (Moulds) too, I think that by moving us around it helps both of us out.”

Steve Smith - CAR
Terry Holt - STL

I read this last night and I thought posting this quote as well. To me he is saying what I have been saying for a long time. Perhapes he understands the 49ers played the pass 1st to set up the run. That was the Walsh, Montana, Rice style of games for years. That's why they were a SB team. They played to their strength. Remember, AJ is a big Rice fan.

I have been arguing about this for some time. I believe we need to set up our running game through the passing game. That is not the way Kubiak thinks and I think he is making a big mistake. I've seen some quotes from Moulds, AJ and Carr that tend to make me believe that their is some questions on this issue within the Texans.

I'd say that its not too far from the truth. He's only 3 yards away from leading the league in Receiving yards, and is tied for the league lead in receptions.
