Our "fundamentals" are pretty lacking. We're awful tacklers and we clearly have talent issues. I watched both the Eagles and the Colts gametapes and we rarely rushed more than 4 and often ran 7 into zone/mixed coverage. IMO the defensive playcalling made a tremendous difference, and the fact that we were playing the Dolphins. Our run D also showed up today which contributed. It's not like we didn't try blitzing before. Against the Eagles and Peyton, we definitely tried and it was stonewalled every freakin time. A lot more changed than the playcalling I'll tell you that much. I really think we got our "fundamentals" together today. Everyone really looked like they knew what they were doing.
On a side note, it's amazing/stupid what the Dolphins did today. The O Coordinator was obviously full of Mularkey today (sorry bad pun). Not just on the 2 pt conversion, but it didn't even look like they tried to run the ball today. Ronnie Brown just didn't get enough carries, and they were content with letting a confused Culpepper throw it all day. It's easy to get to the QB when you don't even try to run the football. It's not like our run D has been that good.
BEST POST OF DA' DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Way to go, Rich. Now we've got something in common with the other 31 defenses in the league.
Good lord it is almost like an anti-analysis Ibar. They averaged 5 yards per carry (yeah we can defend that--sorry but the sarcasm meter just hit 12 and can't adequately sarcasm smilie right now) but only had 14 carries. Saban was a moron not to run the ball more today. 14 attempts is pathetic and exactly the opposite of insisting on running the ball. On average NFL teams rush the ball 29 times, i.e. twice as much as the Dolphins did and they were never down enough to demand an all out air assault.Miami played stupidly. Their strength like ours is the passing game, not the running game. But they insisted on trying to run the ball and we can defend that.
Word.now if we can work on our tackling we could cut down on yards after the catch and yards after initial contact.
