Yes, a big improvement. But TONS to work on, the D stepped up but we need more strides made like today. They held them when it counted and that is good base to keep building on.

And Demeco is the MAN. Way to go Mario!
Go Texans!!!!

I've seen college teams that tackle better than we do. Defensively we still have talent issues to address as well as a lot of skill work ahead of us, but you see what happens when we make defensive adjustments and actually bring additional pressure?

Big kudos to Richard Smith today, I felt like he schemed well and mixed up the playcalling today. We took a big step today; IMO we "should" beat Miami and we took care of business today.

Bout dang time. Look what pressure can do for a team. Give up big plays? We gave those up without blitzing. Keep the pressure coming Mr. Smith.

Yes, we learned to blitz by the 4th week of the season.

But when will we learn to tackle?

That's my biggest concern about the Texans heading into the bye week...

Much better performance...Still some missed tackles, especially from number 23.

They faked some blitzes too, caused some confusion and looked a lot better...I am happy with their progress in just 1 week!!!

The D stepped up and bigg kuhuno's to Smith. We just need to practice more on tackling and jamming recievers at LOS. Other than that, I really enjoyed this game.

It's not like we didn't try blitzing before. Against the Eagles and Peyton, we definitely tried and it was stonewalled every freakin time. A lot more changed than the playcalling I'll tell you that much. I really think we got our "fundamentals" together today. Everyone really looked like they knew what they were doing.

On a side note, it's amazing/stupid what the Dolphins did today. The O Coordinator was obviously full of Mularkey today (sorry bad pun). Not just on the 2 pt conversion, but it didn't even look like they tried to run the ball today. Ronnie Brown just didn't get enough carries, and they were content with letting a confused Culpepper throw it all day. It's easy to get to the QB when you don't even try to run the football. It's not like our run D has been that good.

Our "fundamentals" are pretty lacking. We're awful tacklers and we clearly have talent issues. I watched both the Eagles and the Colts gametapes and we rarely rushed more than 4 and often ran 7 into zone/mixed coverage. IMO the defensive playcalling made a tremendous difference, and the fact that we were playing the Dolphins. Our run D also showed up today which contributed.

I have to give credit when it's due. I posted several times last week with critical comments for Coach Smith.

Thank you Coach Smith.

**Now, keep it up!** :ok:

Miami played stupidly. Their strength like ours is the passing game, not the running game. But they insisted on trying to run the ball and we can defend that. When they went to an all out passing attack you saw the results. In addition we played softer with the lead.

I would expect Parcells to pass the ball almost exclusively against us. Bledsole has that ability. It will be interesting to see if we can get to Bledsole. The cowboys will be a very tough match for us. Why, because of Parcels, just like Gibbs. They see everything, and if they have the personnel, they will hurt you. I did not fear the Miami staff, but you had better fear Parcels and company. As I have so often said, I don't like Parcels, but I do respect his ability to coach and game plan. He wins a lot of games he shouldn't.

Good lord it is almost like an anti-analysis Ibar. They averaged 5 yards per carry (yeah we can defend that--sorry but the sarcasm meter just hit 12 and can't adequately sarcasm smilie right now) but only had 14 carries. Saban was a moron not to run the ball more today. 14 attempts is pathetic and exactly the opposite of insisting on running the ball. On average NFL teams rush the ball 29 times, i.e. twice as much as the Dolphins did and they were never down enough to demand an all out air assault.

Nice job today D.

And I agree, they gave up the run and the halfback pass was about the dumbest call Ive ever seen made

I was surprised to see them pass as much as they did. I didn't realize they had averaged 5 YPC and felt like we were at least containing their running game, whereas we were manhandling their pass attack for much of the game, but I did remember them being successful.

I love the blitzing.. now if we can work on our tackling we could cut down on yards after the catch and yards after initial contact.

Ah, Football!
Is he only going to give post game quotes after wins? Where was he the previous 3 games. Why did it take Kubiak fronting the D out in order to mix some blitz packages in. I"m not going to thank him until I see it on a regular basis. Our D did a decent job up front. Our secondary needs help.:spy:

exactly...the first 3 lines we played were superior to the 'phins and anytime we blitzed it was picked up.. meaning mssr's mcnabb, manning and brunell would've picked us apart even more- we did go too ultra-conservative though but you can see what he was thinking

First he rarely ever blitzed, and this game he blitzed too much. He needs to find a good middle ground. I guess of the two, I'd rather he blitz too much with the DB's we are starting.

Personally I think we got lucky at the end of the game. We kept blitzing a safety and got burned more than once.

I did like the aggresiveness of the blitz most of the time, but a blitz is a gamble. In this case it paid off.

Last week against Washington we hardly blitzed. This week we did it non-stop. I suspect the Cowgirl game will be blitz heavy, but not like yesterday.
