Dunta Robinson interview

Too bad he hasn't played up to that so far this season. He's been terrible along with the rest of the secondary.
yep.

this is the reason we need a pass rush. Even a GREAT Cornerback looks like a clown when the opposing team's QB has all day to throw the ball.

We can't keep blaming the Dline for everything, if they are NFL caliber corners they should be able to cover 3 sec. and if it's a little more at least be around the receiver..

3 sec?????? how bout 5 or more.....so far both manabb an manning had all day to pass the ball

though,it does seem that ole Dauta is the only guy out there that will make a hit. I remember at the Eagles game he made 2 or 3 hits that make you glad to be in the stands and not on the field. still is the best player on our D. maybe even the team.

Agree that this year hasn't been his best season so far. But I don't think it is all his fault. Several times, I have seen a receiver catch a ball in the area near him, and he throws up his hands and looks toward the safeties like "where are you". If you are gonig to run a zone, and only one player is correctly playing his role, it isn't going to work. And everyone in the secondary is going to look bad. He is being hurt by the Qb having to much time and poor safety play.

He needs to step up or he'll be a nickel CB next year. What have you done for me lately.Maybe he's in a slump but sooner or later he's going to have to cover someone..I would put him on the weakest WR and see if he can cover him.If that works maybe go cover 2 on the top WR.As for the safety I think Lewis Sanders is where things are going at the position.Lewis has the talent to settle into SS but right now he's getting his chance at CB which he hasn't been able to take on 2 other teams ..I think at some point we may want to give Buchanon a shot at CB if Sanders has trouble. With Sanders size and athletics he could earn a probowl birth with strong film study and a little more work at the Safety position.

cant really say hes overrated, just look at his rookie season, when we had a good corner in Aaron Glenn, and since then we havent had another starting quality corner on this team, and remember that season we had a good FS in Marcus Coleman and then he fell off the next season, so we cant just have one good guy out there and excpect him to be a pro-bowl corner, the fact is that the whole team needs to hepl out, why do you think that the good teams have the most guys going to the pro-bowl, because they compliment each other, and dunta doesnt have that, so hopefully nate clements wont re-sign after this season, and we can lock him up, and then we will see the good ole dunta again, and then laron landry or michael griffin in the draft, then we can start to judge dunta, but dont do it now

it does make me feel better, i think buchanon can be a good corner if he gets it all together, they said he worked hard this offseason on his tackling, so hopefully he can knock down a few balls, and make mark throw to dunta's side.

Hey, if it'll improve our defensive backfield, then I'm all for it. OTOH, Kubiak has given nothing but praise about Sanders. I don't know if that's directly from Kubiak or if it's an extended voice of Richard Smith. Who knows?:hides:

And I heard lots of praise for my favorite Wand. And look what happened.

"Alright old man, let it go.".. :crying: (talking to myself again)

Just coach talk I think.

IMHO, Buchannon was the best of the three in PS...... Sanders second, and the best in our two regular season games.

PBuch had one mistake, with the PI, other than that, he's been shut down.

I agree with this statement mostly, especially the bolded section. Although, I won't make that broad an excuse for him, he is imho not playing his best.

It seems like Rick Smith is scared to play tight, perhaps because he is all too aware of his secondary issues. We seem to be playing that brand of football that is often coined "bend but don't break". In other words, giving up the short and even intermediate passes to avoid the back breakers. I don't like this philosophy at all.

[/begin rant]

Memo to rick: If you give up 15 yards regularly against the opponents passing game regardless of down and distance you are going to lose. Might as well sell out with 8 in the box, on almost every down, rushing every man who doesn't have to cover someone 1-on-1 in an attempt to create mistakes or *gasp* turnovers. If they beat you for 80, so what, they were going to gash your pathetic excuse for a secondary for TD's anyway. This way, at least you give yourself a chance of doing something positive, end drives quicker, and can allow your players to look at themselves in the mirror and say, "WE force the action". Does wonders for the morale of the D. That might be the only positive you can get for them this year. Playing passive D does not give your players a chance to believe they "left it all on the field", they will always be wondering if they could have played harder or better. Since they can't play better, have them play more aggressive and harder.

[/end rant]

How much time is too much time??

Who cares about time...is too hard to measure, and means different things depending upon protection schemes and types and number of routes. What I care about is punching the opposing QB in the mouth. Pushing him around and making him uncomfortable in the pocket. Make him spend some attention on something other than his recievers. If we aren't doing that then he has too much time.

Dunta has been worrying me a little since the Denver preseason game though. I know we played 2 top tier QBs, but he's the Numero uno back there & he's going to draw the top reciever he needs to play better. Louis Sanders hasn't actually looked all that bad. I think the combo of a better pass rush :mario: & safety help (CC has looked like garbage) the D will show better this weekend.-------- Or at least that's what im hoping for.

No chance he's a nickle corner next year. If he is we better have signed two very good corners in free agency or gotten a stud in the draft. I don't know if I would want Lewis Sanders at SS. Dunta's been bad thus far. Lewis Sanders has been worse. That doesn't exactly give me confidence he'll do better at SS. I think Sanders should be benched. He's been in the league for seven years and if he had any potential at SS he'd probably already have gotten a shot at it. Sanders should be a nickle corner, nothing more.

23 is still one of the top 15 CB's in the league and I would grade 21 (Sanders) as very adequate so far. IMO, they are taking way too much heat for doing what the Smith has asked them to do. We have one great CB, one underachiever (PBuc), one injured overachiever (Faggins) and one "average" one that is exceeding expectations (Sanders).

IMO, most of the blame for the lack of aggressiveness, effectiveness and therefore the mess we are looking at so far this year has to fall onto Smith for now and ultimately Kubiak if he allows it to continue. I'll bet you that if we could look at Drob's tongue, it would be chewed to pieces from him having to bite it at this point for how bad his new "balls to wall" allegedly coach has made him look so far this year. Hey coach, put 23 and 21 up on their guys tight...you can trust them to stay with their guy long enough to get better results than this crap you are calling with our current safeties ever will. And while were at it, why is Simmons not on the field more than CC Brown at this point?

We have played way too much zone which combined with weak pressure is going to get any secondary ripped. Hopefully the coaches agree that this experiment has not worked any better than moving Mario up and down the line has.

Rant over. Btw, I'll be the guy in the stands with the "Hit 'em in the mouth please!!!!" sign. Go Texans! :redtowel:

Dunta just isn't the featured CB like most think he is around here. He is not a CB we can count on to shut down their team's #1 wide receiver. He's not bad, but he's not a shut down corner either. We need a bigger cb and his more heady than Dunta is to be the featured CB.

DRob is a concern for me as well on his shut down capabilities, which in itself is a misnomer in my opinion due to its marketed perception. We just need all ships to rise on the defensive side of the ball.

LMAO...If Dunta isn't a shutdown corner and never becomes capable of playing a teams #1 it was a mistake to draft him where we did...

And we've had a good record in drafting players.....ROFLMAO! Dunta just can't be relied upon to bring in the big play, once he gets burned it's over with, he can't recover very well. It is what it is. I'd still love for him to be on the team, just not at the LCB spot.

Dunta pretty much locked Reggie Brown down against the Eagles (his TD came against Sanders) and got beat on one play by Stalworth. Obviously he could not contain Marvin Harrison, but do you really expect him too, given the circumstances? I think Drob will be fine as soon as the rest of the D gets its act together.
Also, we play so much zone that its deceving as to who is covering who. Pretty much any catch in the middle of the field is out of the CB's responsibility. We got burned in the middle A LOT by both Philly and Indy.

Even still, at least make these guys work for the ball. I like D-rob & i've seen him play much better, but all the way back to the Denver Preseason game (we got decent pressure on plummer) Walker was making him look like a rook. And you're right, Manning, Harrison & Wayne would make anyone look like garbage out there, especially with little to no pressure but...... I don't know it just seems as if he has no clue out there. I'll just chalk it up to him learning the new system along with everyone else.:twocents:

LMAO...If Dunta isn't a shutdown corner and never becomes capable of playing a teams #1 it was a mistake to draft him where we did...

You know, this whole "if X-player sucks then it was a bad draft decision..." thing is stupid.

These players all have potential. THEY are in control of their own destiny, not someone else. They were drafted based on their talent, and THEY are responsible for how they handle their careers.

It's a weak man who blames his production on someone else. Demand a trade if your such an "awesome" player and your stuck on such an "awful" team. Go somewhere where your talents will shine.

But the idea that Dunta might be a draft mistake is absurd. If he messes up, it's on HIM. He had the talent. He has his chances to trade out. But in the end it's up to him to sparkle and shine.

What I see from Dunta is "HOT AND COLD."

He says all the right things (HOT) and then he goes out and lays a friggin rotten egg (COLD), and then he shakes his head and puts his hands on his hips. Poor baby. Such a victim of the circumstances.

Shut your mouth, Dunta, and play the game.

I used to really believe in this guy, but he's going to become a cancer if something doesn't change. I think he's almost a goner (mentally, with respect to believing in the team). And if that's the case, trade his rear so we can get something for him.

"Bad draft decision..." No friggin way. He's just playing a big game: Talking big in interviews and then going out there and playing way below his capabilities.

Poor poor little Dunta. Wah-wah. I'm sick of that stuff more than I am anything else: people crying, then talking big, then playing little, then starting the whole process all over again. Time to pull the Mike Leach "Only two guys on the whole team will speak to reporters" act.

Well, I know this: The pressure is mounting, and if we lose the Skins game, then it will boil over and we'll have some drama to sit back and watch. Kubiak won't stand by and be quiet if we lose to the Skins. He'll come unglued.

So, one way or another...something big is going to happen on Sunday.

I must have missed the cry baby display by Drob either on the field of during an interview. The closest thing to this I have seen was him throw up his hands last week when he was supposed to get help from Brown when the receiver broke accross the middle of the zone and he was not anywhere to be seen.

I don't have a real problem with that. If we are going to talk "cry baby" stuff what about Peyton Hall of Fame frigging Manning and that crap that came out of his mouth last year about his own Oline (which is one of the best in football). The point is some handle frustration better than others.

When has Drob, missed a tackle or an assignment this year? What I see is him being forced to play soft zone and we are getting absolutely killed with all the underneath and in the middle stuff. If Smith will put him up in the receivers hip pocket and let him rip you guys would love him again IMO.

Agree that this year hasn't been his best season so far. But I don't think it is all his fault. That is half the problem. In the Indy game he threw his hands up and stopped in the middle of a play. That is not a start quality. You make the play then get on your teammates, not mid-play

That was Earl coming from even deeper in the field.... so I don't know how he was supposed to have been there to assist.... he may have been, I don't know. I assumed a LB was supposed to be there.

Instead of throwing his hands up though, Earl continued on, chased down Harrison, and made the tackle, like a Pro is supposed to do. We can complain & throw our hands up after the whistle is blown.

If he threw up his hands before the whistle then you guys are absolutely correct on this. I will go back and look at the play again (which I have not done since seeing it live).

What I remember was the receiver went in at the numbers and then up (behind linebacker's zone drop) and then Drob throwing up his hands after the safety finally came into the picture to wrap up the receiver.

Bottomline, I believe Drob is as about as close to a "cover corner" as you pretty much get these days but he is being asked to play too much zone because Smith does not trust his pressure and is trying to not give up too many "big plays". This is just another version of what we have been looking at from Fangio...slow and certain death at the hands of almost every offense we play (see opponents 3rd down conversion rate). We need to play him in man coverage and challenge him to be a playmaker. I guarantee that is what Parcells and others would do with him if he had him.
