Jaguars/Steelers MNF Game Thread

So I turn on Monday Night Countdown and I see nothing but Steelers fans everywhere behind the set. So naturally I think it's at Heinz.

Then I see another view and I realize it's Jax, then they go to a live shot of Willie Parker warming up on the field and there's a couple dozen Steelers fans on the rail doing the "here we go Steelers" thing.

Willie said "hear that? Home game."

I bet that half the people at All Tarp tonight are Steelers fans.

Comparing Steelers fans to Jax fans is like comparing the number of ants in Texas and the number of ants in...my front yard.

Michael Irving going on with some kind of routine on ESPN pre-game right now. Why is this guy even on TV ? What an Idiot !

Is it to much to ask Carr to make two plays ala Big Ben per week? There will be missed assignments or just not an accounted for defender at times, but the QB must make plays at 7 million per year.

Now I'm throughly confused. You said "Is it too much to ask of Carr to make some plays like Big Ben every week"? And then said, "At 7 million dollars, he should be able to make plays"

To which I responded that Big Ben doesn't look that good.

Then you responded by quoting me Carr's good stat line?

I'm not sure I follow ...

Anyway, the offense of the Steelers right now looks like the old days of run run pass punt

I'm still lost. I root against Ben Roethlisberger, but I can't root for the Jags...let's see...Go Matt Jones, Heath Miller, Jeff Reid, and...Kornheiser!

We are in trouble, guys. Them Jags have their act together, this game is incrediable to watch. LOL, Scobee is their MVP too.

Gonna be a long season for me, can't trash talk anyone. This sucks. :crutch:

Meh, Jags lookin good and I'm standing on them winning the AFC South.

Their defense looks amazing.

Wow their defense looks amazing. Not to give them too much credit, as I haven't been impressed with their playcalling (Steelers) and I haven't really been impressed with the recently recovered Big Ben.

I mean, when the run isn't working, and you're down nine, why do you keep going to it??

What's up with Polamalu today? Not half the impact I expected.

Matt Jones is having a coming out party or is going to start one tonight. He is starting to look like a go to guy.
I spent time talking to Jags fans this summer...Matt Jones is the next Randy Moss, it seems.

Good game. Good game.

Here's some things to think about:
Jax is a run stuffing machine. They shut down the Steelers run game completely.
Leftwhich looks like he's finally developing chemistry with his receivers.
Fred Taylor looks great.

All that said, Ben shouldn't have started. Reports were that he had a 104 fever prior to the game, still had pain in his surgical site, and had no reps in a regular season game to date. Batch did a great job against a good Miami D, so why not give him the start?

The Jags really punched the Steelers right in the mouth. As much as I detest some of their fans I cannot but wish we had that sort of physical nature on defense. Thats whats going to help us beat Peyton eventually. That or waiting until he retires, and I'm pretty sure no one here wants the 2nd option.

I think D-Rob, and Jamie Sharper are the only people to play like that here.

I have seen flashes of it from Travis Johnson, and DeMarco Ryans. Maybe we just need a vet to come in and bring it together. I heard someone mention Weaver to be that guy, but he just seems like a nice guy to me. *shrug*

They looked like a playoff or more caliber team last night. They kept the Steelers in check the whole game and their "D" will be a force to reckon with. I'm not that eager to play them this year anymore...lol. :yikes:

There D has always been good. Its there offense that stinks. 9 points wow.

Steelers should have played Batch.

The steelers defense played well also.

I guess their fans are calling for a QB change since both QB's didn't really do much. Imagine what our team could do if at least they could hold someone to 3 points at halftime. To dream.

LOL, yeah I think we would win a few more games. We have put up enough points to win these last 2 games if our "D" could keep someone off of the field. I know it works both ways though and your offense has to be productive with their time on the field and give your D a chance to catch their breath. We need to work as one whole unit and then we will see great results. :wherewill

Jaguars played a great game - they certainly deserved the win. Steelers D looked good too - but they were on the field too long. I hope that Ben and Troy are feeling better for Sunday's game against the Bengals.

I had the pleasuer of being in the stands tonight. To respond to a few posts, there were alot of Steelers fans, but hardly enough to make a difference. Jag fans truely represented last night!! The "mustard" towels were spread out amongst all the Jag fans.

Oh, someone said our D wasn't that great last year? :dontknowa Try we were ranked 6th best D in the league.

Our D demolished Big Ben and the crew!! :crutch:

I agree your D is good. But...don't forget that ya'lls special teams did really well too. Ya'll killed them in the field position battle. Pinning them well within the ten yardline on more than one occasion. It also took alot of pressure off the D. All in all, it was an excellent defensive battle. Big Ben just couldn't get anything going. Congrats! (lord, I hope I don't have to say that to a Jag fan again)

Oh, no doubt, our ST were awesome last night!! Chris Hanson did phenominal!!!

I guess if ya want us to knock out the Colts for the division, Congrats may have to be a regular thing?! :wiggle:

They had their momenst but Hanson also put 2 punts in the end zone that came out to the 20. I swear the guy does not know how to lay off, we're punting from the 37 (should have been going for the 1st down anyways) and BOOM, into the end zone for a net gain of 17 whopping yards.

LOL. That's true:francis:

Thanks for the props texan fans. I know that hurts.

It would seem that our D passed the test against a running team. Trying to stop a premier passing team like the colts is the next test and I'm eager to see how it plays out. I don't know that you can ever stop Marvin Harrison anymore than you can stop TO or even Andre Johnson when healthy.

Good luck in all but two games this year. I really like the Kubiac, Moulds and Gado hires this year and, like most, am waiting to see how the mario/reggie decision plays out.

I'd be happy if we could hold someone to single digits for a half.

Good defensive match on Monday. Damn, the Jaguars are lookin' good. They'll definitely be taking it to the Colts on Sunday - I hope they get the win.

The Texans could use an outspoken guy the defense to get them CRUNK!!!! I do realize that about the Texans in that they're nice guys out there. Gary Walker was the closest to it for the defense.

See Joey Porter, Ray Lewis, Warren Sapp, feel free to add to the list...

Here's to the down fall of the Colts

I have a feeling after how our D was against Pitt, Peyton's shaking in his Nike's, Reebok's whoever the heck he's doing commercial's for this week

Your D clearly did well against Pittsburgh by shutting down the run and forcing Ben to throw, but I think you got lucky that Ben was at about 60-70%. They had open receivers but Ben just couldn't complete the passes. I thought for sure we would see Batch in the 3rd quarter.

Supposedly Ben had a temperature of 104???? Yeah right. He weould have fallen out after about 2 snaps. The effects of the appendectomy did show however toward the end. I saw him wincing a bit.

Cowher confirmed that is was 100.4 not 104 like the media was saying. If he had 104, he would have been in a hospital bed. Puttnig Batch in would definately have been a wise choice.

Please, Peyton's been going into mommy and daddy's bed in the middle of the night with nightmares of Stroud and Henderson...

"Daddy, thebig men are going to EAT ME!!!" :crying:

Yeah, just like he did 6 of the 8 meetings with you guys! Or was I asleep when the Jags won the division over the Colts?

Bump that....give credit where credit is due...The Jags Defense was ferocious....

Yeah, you've won the division for 3 years straight now, right?? Hmm, and yet you still can't seem to get to the most important game. Win one of these :trophy: and you will get my full attention, but frankly, the whole thing is getting old...

Oh, I forgot... when did your Jags win one of those either? You know, I love it when you Jags fans make comments like that, when you, yourselves can't even win the division. Now, if you were a Pats fan, that would be a different story... Oh, and btw - I don't care if I have your attention or not, your team and fans are the one's screaming for respect and feeling the need to feel like Peyton has something to be scared of now, over one performance... once you guys actually start backing up some of that smack you lay out, then you, my dear, will have my attention.

Actually, the whole "respect" thing is severely overrated. Not many Jag fans (and definitely not any players) are crying for everybody's respect. That's what the media is trying to shove down your throat. But in reality, it's near meaningless. Every NFL team respects the Jags. The media doesn't, because Jacksonville is an easy target. That's just how it goes. If we never get this "respect" I will still sleep soundly at night.

Oh, and we are currently starting to back up the "smack" that we are running (the same smack that every NFL team-fans can run on the colts, BTW). Just hope that Manning doesn't have another game like he did week 2 of last season. If he does, things could get ugly.

Jags: 17
Colts: 13
