Safety Help!!!!!

I was all for the young safties playing, but now I am all for trying to get some veteran to get back there and take command of the secondary. This is just pissing me off that we our guys do not have the experience that we need back there. Let the young guys learn from some proven vet. If we can't fnd anyone before Troy Vincent is able to play then i all for getting him. He may have lost a step or two, but he will know where he needs to be to make a play! Let the young guys learn from him.

Who are you thinking about here ? What's out there. Rick Smith drug up what was out there in camp. What we got is better than what is on the wiaver wire. You're correct in difining the problem. The only medicine I think is just time. We gotta ride it out. Unless, you advocating spending draft capitol now at the expense of the '07 draft. You wanna spend what looks like today top ten to fifteen picks on a vet to do what? The o-line is in a tail spin. The o-line isn't going to get any better this season. Nope just too many hole in this dyke to plug up. Just gotta ride it out. Hope they improve.

I'm just hoping they look like they have a clue. So far Can't Cover Brown and Glen Earl haven't shown any signs of that.

The Eagles game was a very winnable game until they were screwing up back there. Sadly it isn't because the other team made a heck of a play, it is because you continuously see them out of place because they don't know where they should be.

Im willing to ride it out but it is getting old. At least put in Jason Simmons.

The defensive secondary really needs some help. And it wasn't just that Peyton had loads of time, which he did, but rarely used. Peyton tended to zap away at his receivers. The Texans just weren't anywhere near them.

This has been building for over a year now. Houston has been content to stay with what they've had in the defensive secondary. It will burn them again this year. I hope when the opportunity arises, they add some talent and depth to the secondary.

Besides Dunta none of our other secondary players would be starters on other teams except out of desperation. Kubiak knows this, but what can he do? It's not like he can wave a magic wand and make bad players into even average ones.

Earl had a pretty good game. Led the team in tackles, had an endzone pick (nullified by his partner), and forced a goal line fumble to steal a TD from Indy.

However, CC Brown has no business playing at Free Safety. He's a Strong Safety and a complete liability in coverage. Given that the Free Safety is supposed to be the guy helping out with the receivers that are too hot for the corner to handle, that's a big problem.

I was kind of surprised when we took Daniels with Ko Simpson and Pat Watkins on the draft board. Granted, Daniels appears to be working out alright - even well, but our starting FS shouldn't be a backup at that position. Even Jason Simmons, one of our special teams headhunter's, has shown some coverage ability (that can-you-believe-it INT vs. McNabb). I'm not saying Simmons should be our starting FS ... just that we're that poor at the position.

I have been a G.Earl fan, but neither he or CC had a good game. In fact they were getting abused all game long. I know its not all their fault. They have to be put into a position to succeed so the coaches are partially at fault, but we really need secondary help.

I wish I knew how this could be fixed, but right now I have nothing. I just hope that through coaching they can get better. We cannot rebuild the whole team next year, and those that want to be here need to show it.

What about trying Dexter McCleon at safety. He is a little undersized but he hits like a linebacker. He isn't a great cover corner but he probobly has better coverage skills than any of our current safeties. From what i have seen, the transition from db to safety isn't that difficult. Marcus Coleman did it with descent success.

Did anyone else catch C.C. Brown's quote that the 'skins have one of the best receiving corps in the league?

Yeah, he couldn't say "they suck" but I would have rather heard something like "we have our work cut out for us but we're up to the challenge" ....

Correction: the exact quote was "They probably have the best receiving corps in the league."

or did he mean, " we are going to probably make them look like they have best receiving corps in the league."

I expect results!!!We came into this season knowing we had the worst defensive coaches in the league but didn't replace them.We knew there system was flawed and they are poor talent evaluators but we let them cloud our minds. They actually said that the secondary was the strenth of the team but I haven't seen it.If this is there secondary they plan to use then all we can do is sit back and watch.:Tumblewee

No,but think about it for a minute. We finished 31st in the league in pass defense. Its not to hard to see that what there doing isn't working. From the inside the picture is a lot different then what people see on the outside. All I see on the outside is a poorly prepared secondary that is being ate alive. We have given up more big plays then any team in the league. There trying to implement a 34 and 43 at the same time. They need to establish a solid base before they try to run 2 different systems. What I see is a better 43 team then a 34 team we've been waiting 4 years on.What we need is someone that can come in and take accountability for there actions on that side of the ball.We have to shake this loser.:whip:

I said from the start that if there plan didn't work they would be held accountable.

We want answers and improvement now!!!!

Is this serious?

We played good offense's but the fact is one of the offense's are in our way and we have to do what ever it takes to slow that team down.I don't want to here excuses I want to see results. Its time to get this team to the top whatever it takes..Theres nothing I hate more then losing and the last showing don't even warrent watching... Something better happen this week or were going to start looking closer at whats going on.

While I agree with your initial assessment, I disagree on the second part. He could have done a hell of a lot, but choose not to. Remember Kubiak statements like, "We sure like Michael Stone". "We like our young safetys". "We feel good about our secondary". So, is he lying, or is he stupid as hell, because I don't see much in between there. What could he have done. Oh I don't know. How about drafting one, or signing even one middling level FA? There were all kinds of secondary players on the open market. How about looking at someone like Chris Hope in FA? A good middling safety that would not have broken the bank. Nope, not a sniff. Heck, we hardly even brought anyone in for a look. Then in the draft, he totally ignored the secondary. What could he have done? Heck, that seems pretty self evident to me. You don't need a magic wand. It just takes a little foresight. They better address it in a major way this offseason. I am really getting sick of the excuses when other teams manage to do these things in one offseason, while we can't do them in 5 offseasons.

We have a lot of work to do on this secondary if we want to compete this year.We don't have any choice on what we can do,we could pick up a few vets but my choices play in a different system then whats being run.My plan was to shut down one side with proven veterans and roll coverage to the weak side.Truth is we were destoryed by Indy and need a more conservative scheme.Your not going to make a living going after Manning. We need players that are strong in coverage but know the system and who's manning who.Theres to much work to fix it right now.We don't have any nickel LBers or anything. What defense do you want and stay in it.The 34 defense hasn't done anything 4 years so why are these *****s tring to use it.This is there baby and there going to have to fix to save our season.Thats the whole reason I thought we should get a whole new staff so the old way wouldn't be confusing things..

Completely on Point. Earl's OK CC brown is in bill walton's voice HORRIBLE!

I think before the season started, our secondary looked servicable. Then Faggins went down and alarms could be heard in the distance...Buchanon will hopefully help if he can stay on the field...at least he has speed. Our safeties are definately subpar, but if faggins and buchanon had been on the field or just healthy, we could have given more attention to fixing the problem of our safeties...Injuries change team dynamics a lot.
