Keep the Faith

The way I see it today will be the low point of the season (i'm expecting a Colts' victory in the ball park of 41-13). From this point forward, however, I believe things will turn around since we actually have a long term plan in place (something we have lacked the last several years): good coaches, good drafts, good free agent acquisitions, and patience with the young talent while they get their initial playing time. I can honestly see going into the bye week either 2-2 or (at worst) 1-3. The media pressure will be incredibly intense after today's loss (especially if Reggie Bush tears up an awful Packers' defense as expected). If we can hold together through this tough week, better days are ahead. And if you have a hard time enduring the media onslaught, just remember what those five years of silence on Sunday mornings were like after the Oilers left.

Good post! Exactly my thoughts, but I don't think they are going to get slaughtered quite that bad. I am so sick of the media, especially Channel 13, who is supposed to be the "Texans" channel. I just wrote them an email telling them how I felt about their reporting. LOL I need to get a life and not take this so seriously. It's just hard. They are kind of like your kids or something. I need to go see a shrink.....

I have to take this sentiment a bit further and apply it to the whole year. I suspect McNair and company are looking 2 to 3 years down the road as far as a consistant playoff team. As McNair has consistantly said, if he just wanted to sell tickets this year, we would have taken Bush.
I think we will be seeing a lot of experiments this year, like moving Mario around the line and changes in personel like the Gado-Morency trade to find better fits for the Denver-Bay system.
While the folks we picked up this year are a great improvement over last year, I think we still have a ways to go. Look for us to pick up a mix of veterans and rookies to help in the secondary, a place kicker, another player or two to bolster the offensive blocking and either get Carr fixed or replaced and I think other teams will be shaking in their boots when the Bull shows up to play.

2006 - 5 to 6 wins
2007 - 8 to 10 wins and maybe a playoff shot
2008 - 10+ wins and prominant in the playoff picture

IMO, the game will be closer than most think, with an oustside chance we win it. I want to see the O-line block like they did in the KC game, Carr chusk it like the 1st quarter last week and the Defense get pressure (a sack by Mario would be good) and stop the run. By the way, if Bush doesn't lite it up against the Pack, I will be surprised, as they are BAD, then watch ESPN get the golden knee pads on for Bush.

We have one game this week with one game under our belts. I am looking for individual and unit improvement against one of the best teams in the NFL on their own turf. I could care less about the media, because if they cared as much as the fans do about the Texans then they would watch us a lot more than they do through their talking head microscope. Do not get news mixed up with the need for content.

I just want us to play hard. No quitting in the second half.

I went to every home game from 1982-84 when our NFL team was 6-35.

Me go anywhere? Pish.

I am the teflon fan when it comes to noise, dark clouds, lemmings and microwaves.

Not that I am immune from emotional highs and lows....far from it....

I mowed a vacant one-acre lot (in January) with a push mower after 35-3 to burn off steam, otherwise I would have probably burned down my own house or put bricks or bowling balls through every tv in the house. Later that evening, a police chase ended in my front yard with a handcuffed man lying nude face down in my yard. It wasn't me -- just some doofus that was running, literally, from cops after a failed drug deal in some apartment complex about a mile from my house -- he thought shedding his clothes would throw off the big German Shepherds that were after him. But seeing all the excitement, my neighbors all came over to see if I was all right because they knew the type of fan that I was and were worried that I had finally gone off the deep end.

The NFL has had me since Joe Willie's guarantee. And I will continue riding the ups and downs as long as I am able -- always hoping for the best - and not letting the downs get me down... too much.

Unfortunately, I was close with my prediction of the final score. I did find some positives to build on (Carr's performance, lack of penalties, not too bad first performances from Dayne and Gado). Here's looking forward to our first win next week!!!!
