You do relalize that for 55 of the 60 minutes, both teams scored 10 points, right? This was not Pittsburgh last year. Or any game last year for that matter. I dont care what the stats say, this was a close game until Carr's 4th down pass was batted down. With 13 minutes left we were down by 14 but with the ball in thier 30 and everyone was still in the stadium. Yes, the Eagles were clearly the better team, but we hung with them (just) for about 48 minutes.
I dont know about you, but I consider 48 minutes of tough football against one of the best teams in the league a pretty good accomplishment for a team like ours (new coach, 9 of 11 new starters on offense, revamped D).
Its not the Superbowl, its not even a win, but its a start.
I agree. It was a loss, but it was a good game. I'm disappointed it wasn't a win, but I'm not disappointed in the team.

after a 2-14 season. i'm clinging on to any silver lining i can find. and having the best defender (statisticaly) out of 31 teams that are supposed to be better than you is a GREAT start to a season (and career). I'm just trying to purge all this gloom and doom after 1 game. take what you can from a loss and move on. I'm taking the positives...
There were a lot of good things in the game.... even defensively.
That big play to Stallworth showed us exactly what is wrong with our DBs. For years, they have been a big part of our run defense, and we've got to get better at stopping the run with our front 7, so the DBs can do what they are supposed to be doing.
I think we've got some people stepping up at the DE position (Babin & Peek), that I believe will get Weaver pushing to get better as well. I swear Babin & Peek were either being held, or blocked in the back on every play.
Thomas Johnson looks to be a bad mofo..... I'd love to see him start next tho TJ. With Babin on the strong side, and Mario on the weekside.... ooooohhhhwee.
& we got to see our #1 pick in real action. I don't see how someone can watch him play in that game, and not think..... yes, he definitely has impressive strength.... yes, he definitely has impressive speed...... I think he needs time to figure out when to use that speed, when to use that strength, & I hope he learns not to focus on the man in front of him, but what is going on in the backfiled. I don't understand how anyone could not be impressed with him.
Offensively, our offensive line didn't give up one sack. Our pass protection was suspect, but our 3rd round rookie made Darren Howard his plaything. IMHO all sacks were due to failure to recognize the blitz, not due to a lack of talent, or being physically outplayed. & you're right, the Eagles DL is one of the better lines we'll see all year. Mental mistakes, that's what they need to work on.
David Managed to shake his demons for most of the game. Watch him play, he was pretty good. Until the sack in the third where he tripped. Before then, he dropped back comfortable looking downfield. After the trip, his 5 steps were more like 3 & a couple of stutter steps. His rhythm was off.
AJ looks like AJ again, Eric looked young out there...... and we were in the game, without a running game...... which is really awesome, if you think about it.
