610am: Ron Dayne will see a "ton" of action vs Colts Sunday

610am just reported that the Texans perceive Morency as a 3rd down back and they think Gado is an every down back. They then said that Ron Dayne is expected to see, "a ton of action" Sunday per the Texans.
 
Hey, Gaddo was GBs only bright spot last year. I saw him break a couple last year on ESPN. We shall see.
 
They have Ahman Green.

This may have also been done because this gives Morency the best chance to go for a starting job.

You had to think the writing was on the wall for Morency. Dayne comes in and knows the system, Lundy was picked by Kubiak....

They are saying that Gado can come in and contribute better than Morency because now that Dayne is here Morency would be the third down back.

Now you possibly got Dayne and Lundy (for this week or until Gado gets acclimated).

Once Gado breaks starting line up you can go Gado, Dayne and then Lundy. Let Lundy run back kicks still.
 
Wow. We sure are making a lot of changes 'out of the box'--

1) not going to blitz like pre-season, just going to use the front 4
2) new RB's
3) Weary benched, McKinney starting

I think the :homer: 's are right in that this is going to be a very interesting year!!

Only thing I don't like is the no blitz thing, especially announcing it. All teams will have to do now is keep a RB/FB and or TE in to block to beat us up front now.
 
I started thinking this would happen shortly after we picked Dayne up. When you think about it the Texans just did not have the horses to get this done with Lundy, Morency, and Taylor. Sure those guys looked good in the preseason and I'm not saying backs like Lundy and Taylor aren't going to have a job here. I'm just saying that from the moment they brought in Antowain Smith you knew that there was something missing in our "mix" and Kubiak was looking for it.

Domanick Davis is done and I think Kubiak is pretty sure of it at this point.

I think Taylor is a project with a lot of upside (practice squad). I don't think Lundy is much further along than Taylor and on a team that had sufficient depth at RB the better of the two would be on the practice squad and the other would be looking for work.

Kubiak didn't care for Morency and Antowain was too old. Enter Ron Dayne who gets a chance to work his way past the rookie and prove that he can continue to be productive in this system (building on his 53 carries from a season ago). Now Morency leaves for Gado and suddenly we have a whole new backfield.

The coaches weren't satisfied with what we had back there. Look at the draft and how we tried to trade up to get DeAngelo Williams before Carolina moved up and snagged him. We would have ended up without DeMeco Ryans and I'm glad things turned out the way they did but clearly even back at the draft we were looking for a RB.

For all any of us know we're still looking for a RB.

I am afraid to even look at our drafts and who is still here.

why couldn't Kubiak have been ready in 2002 and take over this franchse ..man bad timing.

Where does this leave Lundy then? He's our starter last week and now Ron Dayne and Samkon Gado are going to carry the load?

I think with the blitz thing.. we are doing a trial by fire situation with our Dline.

We are gonna run an aggressive defense.. but to be successful we need to get pressure with our front four before we start throwing in huge blitzes. When our Dline starts getting pressure, its gonna get more exciting.


As for us not having many players left from our past drafts. I know we have Pitts, Johnson, Dunta, Peek, Mathis, Faggins, and Davis.. and that aint too shabby.

...so you really think OUR front 4 can match up to 6 or 7? How many teams are successful in the NFL just rushing 4? Names, please?

Adrian Peterson is looking really damn good....We could end up with the other Bush (Michael Bush) with a late first round pick since his stock will drop after he broke his leg this season. Unless Dayne is the answer:rolleyes:
 
lots of teams get pressure with thier front four. Atlanta, Carolina and Indy come immediatly to mind. Detroit and the Giants as well.

Really though.. find any team that has a good pass rush.. and you will find that they get good pressure with thier front 4. Pressure with your Dline is what allows your LBs to run in and get the sack. No pressure with the Dline means that your LBs get tied up by Olinemen and the opposing offense will dink and dunk you to death since you will not have enough guys in coverage.

One would think so, but a good day at the combine could catapult him to the top(see: Mario Williams, Antonio Cromartie, Thomas Howard, etc.) I'll be looking for either of the running backs coming out of Minnesota since they run the ZBS and their last two running backs, Laurence Maroney and Marion Barber, appear to be destined to pan out in the future, despite their "system."
 
pshh ...our answer is a defensive back out of notre dame. Tom Zbikowski...I am telling you right now, he is the best talent out of this upcoming draft class...what a pure football player this kid is.

I don't know which is more depressing. Our Running Back situation or the fact that we are discussing the Draft after week 1...
 
According to TMQ (on ESPN Page 2), he thinks Manning is really good at throwing against blitz. I think he mentioned it in his column this week. Since I haven't seen too many Colts games I am inclined to believe him somewhat (Also he is a scholar so statistics might be accurate). We will see how it turns out on Sunday.

Manning is going to rip us apart worse than McNabb did, the only way to rattle Manning is to bring the house. No way do we get pressure on him with the front four alone.
 
It's going to be a rough first two months of the season. However, the team is in good hands and there is a clear plan mapped out.

Defensively, the front 7 will play agressively and physically. Sacks and plays will happen as a result of players making plays, not due to the scheme. The secondary will be there to clean up turnovers and prevent big plays.

Offensively, we are going to run the ball. We are going to be physical and stretch the field vertically and horizontally. TEs will be involved in the passing game. Receivers will be running down and across the field, allowing for more big plays. The QB will have an opportunity to run the ball and pickup yards and first downs that way as well. This is how this team is going to play and win.

However, players have to learn the system, develop, and the right players have to be acquired. As fans, let's enjoy the development this season and get ready for a fun ride starting in '07. I think any real hope for this season would be something like the Dolphins '05 season. As all the young players improve and everyone begins reacting instead of thinking in the new system, this team will start playing good football by late October. Also, the schedule will get a little kinder. I don't know how many wins we'll have. However, I'm confident that we'll see the best football the Texans have ever played in November and December. Who can live with that?!

He will, he's already signed to the practice squad and I think that's was the reason they traded Morrency. He mention wanting to have two big backs in Dayne and Gato and two young change of pace backs like Lundy and Taylor.

This is true, but it's also true that Manning loves to burn the blitz, and he's extremely good at it. It may be necessarry to get serious pressure without blitzing much, which we can't do yet. Our best chance right now is to control the clock, like we did with DD, but that ain't looking real good right now either. It didn't win us the game anyway, but it helped a lot.

After watching McNabb have all that time to throw last Sunday, the last place I want the Texans to have to be right now is Indianapolis.

No, we're still looking for our #1 guy....... Morency wasn't going to be it. The coaches looked at him in practice, and in the preseason, they didn't see him as an everydown back. From what I saw in the preseason & Last year, I thought he'd have a shot, & I didn't see anything from Lundy to think that VM shouldn't be starting........ obviously I was wrong about that.

But We wanted Gado, because he can be an everydown back, which is what we need, and they didn't feel Morency was up to the job.

Remeber that screen, or that pitch he got in Sundays game?? where he had like 12 yards in front of him........ he's going full speed, trying to cut & juke, then falls all over himself. It was 2nd & 8, & chances are good that he would have picked up the first down, against the opposing DB.

I think that might have upset Kubiak quite a bit.

I know he's on the practice squad...I don't think they will re-sign him to the active roster...unless someone gets hurt...
 
o I reaaly liked the pick up buy the Texas in getting Ron Dayne very good pick IMO i just hope they give him a REAL shot cause he did good in Denver

So you really think we're just going to send our front 4 all the time?

Just because he said it doesn't mean that we're going to be doing it or doing it exactly the way he says we're going to do it. Other coaching staffs read this junk too you know.
