I'm still very excited

Okay, so our Houston Texans dropped their opener against Philadelphia last week, and fell to 0-1. However, alot of things cause for excitment for this season.

These are not the Texans of last year, so do not expect the record to be the same. We have a new system with our offense and defense, new players, new coaches and a new general manager. All of these people are commited to winning.

True, anytime you add new players to a team and get a new scheme, you are going to struggle. However, I feel this year's team's attitude is much different than last year's, and we really want to start winning fast.

We seen some good things from our Texans last week against Philadelphia on both sides of the ball, but the Eagles are such a good team they began to take control of the game starting at the end of the first half. However, we have one tough early part of the schedule once again this year. In a way I look at it as a good thing, as we will have tough challenges early in the season, and this will only make us better.

Our next game is Sunday against the 1-0 Indianapolis Colts in their house. No doubt it will be antoher difficult battle, but again, I feel this is good for our team. We have never beaten the Colts, and having the game in their house makes it all that much tougher. However, I look for us to fight hard Sunday, show pride, show improvments and play with enthusiasm.

My ''Preview of the Indianapolis Colts'' will most likely be posted tomorrow (Thursday).

We still have 15 games left fans, and can accomplish a whole lot in them. Continue to cheer us on!

I think things will bottom out this week against the Colts, then begin to turn around quickly. I seriously wouldn't be surprised if we headed into the bye week 2-2 after an 0-2 start. I definitely feel like we have a plan in place (none of this abandon ship stuff like we did after 2 weeks last year). I'm still hoping for a 7-9 win year.

I think most of the rumblings on this board are from folks who place unfair expectations on this team prior to the pre-season start. These expectations were blown way out of proportion during the preseason, when we went 3-1. As proof, look at this poll we took:

Only 28% of the fans out there said 7 or less wins and 3 folks even said Super Bowl (I assume this was a joke). Originally, I said 5 wins would be a good year given our obstacles: 2-14 record last year, a losing tradition, new coach/football system, and a young team. I too thought a .500 season was possible after the preseason. Granted, now I can see I was wrong and have reverted back to my original expectations.

Bottom line, its rare for a team with our past to just magically change to a winner overnight. I believe Kubes is the man. My high expectations are for 2007 and 2008.

Everybody needs to drink some of this Tequila and chill out. This is going to be a long season if you don’t.

i dont see much shame losing to the eagles. they looked really good...and they should be one of the elites in the NFL.

400 yds per game allowed will not cut it however, but that is the beauty of having a guy like richard smith who can have his presence felt when he is chewing out the players for lack of effort/hustle if that was or is ever the case.

It seems like a lot of people aroud here think that we're going to beat Washington.

Are you guys seeing something that I'm missing? What makes you think that we'll beat them?

Their offense isn't that good...or atleast it hasn't been...

My expectations are similar to Wharton's. From the beginning, though not stated, I have felt that a 6-10 record (or slightly better) was probable. Kubiak keeps talking about improving every week; my theory is "if the Texans improve their win total by 4 games this year and 4 games next year, they will either be in the play-offs next year or on the verge of getting there."

That thought process gives our offense and defense an adequate amount of time to learn the nuances of their new schemes, respectively and gives this year's rookies a greater chance to mature with the system. I realize that probably 60% of the people that read these posts will find fault with my logic and theories, but that's ok because at the end of next year, I think that most everyone still reading these posts will be "pumped" about our chances in the 2007 playoffs.

Every year I predict a super bowl for the Texans, I want it. Now does that mean that when they lose I'm going to be negative and cry about it? No, in fact, this is the happiest I've ever been in a football season. The people you mentioned as being unfair, most of them were haters to begin with or are just popping up on the forum to

The thing is we all know we're heading in the right direction. Maybe next year we get that Stud Corner and fast LB. The next year, maybe we get that franchise back and stud RG. What I'm saying is that we're heading forward. We're just all impatient right now and granted, our 2nd half showing last week was poor.

We've got a MLB who can read plays, a potential freak at LE, a great CB. Let's get another great CB and maybe a great FS. We've got a possible stud at LT, a bunch of good TE's, two solid WR's. Let's add another RB, a young WR and maybe another starting RG and see what happens.

We'll still watch to see how Wali does, if Carr progresses, will Owen Daniels become that target, will Spencer become a franchise LT, will Ryans get ROY, how many sacks will Mario get, etc...

There are a lot of things to look forward to. Play em all, let God sort 'em out.

We're in good shape. Let's just enjoy the ride a little for once.

...so what has he been doing the past few months with his players or what is he going to do differently now

we lost to a really solid team on sunday, there were some positives...but also a lot of negatives. We have a lot of work to do. I think a upset over the colts would be huge...but I also am a big dreamer.

Good thoughts in this thread...and we'll need them as we continue the tough part of our schedule (first 7 games)...

Half the teams in the NFL are 0-1 right now, and 3 were shutout on Sunday (and we weren't one of them!).

I think it is fair to analyze our team's performance every Sunday and make evaluations on players and plays...but...we always have to keep in mind the BIG PICTURE. Our player turnover from last year is substantial, so these guys have to learn to be a team all over again...then learn a new system for new coaches...and these things take time.

So I say we enjoy the ride, but don't get too emotional about it at this point. Don't set yourself up for unrealistic expectations, so you don't get down on them when things don't go our way. Once we establish a winning record, then we can make expectations and feel the repercussions of disappointment when losing.

Right now is a learning experience for everyone, including us fans.

I hear you...I don't know what people are seeing. They don't have a good offense, but so far, neither do we....and their defense doesn't look too shabby. They played a pretty tough game against the Vikes on Monday.

I'm not too sure about a "definite" win in this one; have to wait and see how our team progresses.

I think their offense is bad and their defense is over-rated. I think Brunell has lost it. They've got a new offense and from everything I've seen, they're not getting it, yet. They've got talent in the offense with Portis, Cooley, and Moss but it's not working, yet, and hopefully, it won't be working when we play them.

I almost forgot to add: I think this game will be hard for us. This is a game and the Dolphin games are ones we could easily lose but also possibly pull out.

I agree - the Texans will do much better this year than last year.
