What if DeMeco Ryans becomes a bigger impact player than Bush or Williams? :yikes: Will you people be satisfied or are you gonna whine that we dont have two playmakers instead of one?

What if Matt Lienart becomes the next Tom Brady and takes the Cardinals to a couple superbowls?

What if DeAngelo Williams puts up twice the stats that Bush does, and Mathias Kiwanuka puts twice what Williams does?

All of these things are VERY POSSIBLE. Just as it is possible that Williams will be the best player out of this draft... just as it is possible that Bush will be. Anyone passing judgement on either player at this point is MAJORLY...M-A-J-O-R-L-Y jumping the gun. Honestly... Bush is not an impact player, Williams is not an impact player.... none of these guys are. They are all ROOKIES. And Rookies will have good games and bad games. Next week Williams could get a couple sacks and Bush could get shut down by Green Bay. And then all the people who are saying Williams is a bust and Bush is a divine being are gonna look really stupid for passing judgement after one...freaking...game...

SPEAKING OF WHICH.. We start off against Philly and Indi (two of the least sacked QBs in the game), and N.O. starts against Cleveland and Green Bay..two teams which, btw, had really bad run defenses last year.

Hmm.. I vowed yesterday that I wasnt gonna take part in this debate until 2009 didnt I? shoot. Well ive already written this so i might as well post it.

We should thank the heavens for DeMeco Ryans being available and our FO taking him accordingly. While most rookies are learning the speed of the game and are granted a learning curve, this guy brings it every play and is already a great NFL player. Can you even begin to imagine what he'll be like in a few years?!

But you're right, Grid, drafts are a crap shoot, and NOBODY is guaranteed to be a great NFL player no matter how much potential they have or how great their college career.

And the fact of the matter is that neither VY nor RB could have helped us stop the Eagles' offense from scoring 24 points.

Yep :D..he is already pegged as my next Jersey purchase.

Demeco Ryans will be DROY. He will be a key player on our defense for years to come. Just like Grid, i am waiting on his jersey.

I wonder if DeMeco can get better? Eventually when teams study our game film they are going to start keying on Ryans with their FB or O-line to keep him out of the running plays. When that happens lets see what Ryans does. :woot:

He has looked amazing so far.

If DeMeco and Bush means more wins than DeMeco and Mario, then obviously taking Mario Williams over Reggie Bush was still a bad choice. If getting only one non-bust per draft year is a success to you, then feel free to clap it up every time the Texans have 5 or 6 wins over the next decade. Hey, if we get one good player per year, then we'll have a full football team by DeMeco's 22nd season. Texans to the Superbowl in 2028!

On a slightly irrelevant note, Tom Brady would never survive behind the Cards' o-line. He's a bigger statue than even Kurt Warner. But I hope Leinart has a good career. It would be nice for the Cardinals fans too, since they rarely have anything to cheer about.

What if DeAngelo Williams puts up twice the stats that Bush does, and Mathias Kiwanuka puts twice what Williams does?

Then DeAngelo Williams, Reggie Bush, AND Mathias Kiwanuka are all players I would like to have on our team.

You act as if the NFL draft is like picking a marble out of a bag, and there's no way to tell who will be good or bad. I do not know for a FACT that Reggie will be better in the long run than Mario, but I predict that he will, not based on one game both guys played this weekend, but based on their college resumes, which encompasses much more than just a single game.

I cannot wag the finger and say "I toldja so" about Bush after one game, but anyone who claims for a fact that Mario was the right choice has absolutely no basis to say that other than homerism. That hasn't been proven yet either.

SPEAKING OF WHICH.. We start off against Philly and Indi (two of the least sacked QBs in the game), and N.O. starts against Cleveland and Green Bay..two teams which, btw, had really bad run defenses last year.

The week two games haven't even been played yet, but it's good to know there's already a built-in excuse if the Texans look stupid.

Well, this is one thread that starts with Bush's name in it that was actually worth reading. I love the first sentence. When they took DeMeco, I was really upset. I had guys I wanted taken and they pick some no-name (to me) LB that I've never even heard of!!!! :brickwall

Anyway, it looks like I was wrong. No, actually, it doesn't look like it--I just was wrong, and I'm really glad. :redtowel:

Yes cause its so much more feasible to just take a playmaker in every round... GOD..why hasnt anyone thought of that yet.

Honestly.. take a step back and look at your logic.. are you high?

If we draft Joe Montana in the 1st.. why didnt we draft Barry Sanders in the second.. if we get Joe and Barry, why didnt we draft Orlando Pace in the third?.. if we get Joe, Barry, and Pace, why didnt we take Jerry Rice in the 4th? If we get .....etc..etc..etc.. I think you see what im saying.

If Meco becomes a superstar, then its time to get off your high horse and enjoy the fact that we got an impact player... its NOT time to get your panties in a twist cause we could have had TWO impact players if only we had hired Nostradamus as our GM.

Then DeAngelo Williams, Reggie Bush, AND Mathias Kiwanuka are all players I would like to have on our team.

Again... are you high?

Yah.. we would all like to have a superstar at every position... not possible though, so its probably better for everyone if we dont start EXPECTING a superstar at every position.

You act as if the NFL draft is like picking a marble out of a bag,

More like 7 bags.. and each bag is full of a random collection successively better marbles. Will you get the best marble in the bag? or the worst?

and there's no way to tell who will be good or bad.

Bingo.

I do not know for a FACT that Reggie will be better in the long run than Mario, but I predict that he will, not based on one game both guys played this weekend, but based on their college resumes, which encompasses much more than just a single game.

Ryan Leaf had a great college career.. so did Barry Sanders.. but only one of them had NFL success. A great college career DOES indicate, to some degree, the chance that a player will have success in the NFL.. but it is not accurate. Williams did not have a bad college career.. not as impressive as Bush, but he wasnt a lame duck by any stretch of the imagination.

That is why I said this:

Anyone passing judgement on either player at this point is MAJORLY...M-A-J-O-R-L-Y jumping the gun.

You say that you arent judging them after one NFL game, and you are right, you are judging them by NO NFL games. You are basing your judgement almost entirely on thier college careers. Explain to me how that is better than judging them on one NFL game?

I cannot wag the finger and say "I toldja so" about Bush after one game, but anyone who claims for a fact that Mario was the right choice has absolutely no basis to say that other than homerism. That hasn't been proven yet either.

I agree.. you cant make an informed statement about the abilities of either player at this point. So why are you trying to?

The week two games haven't even been played yet, but it's good to know there's already a built-in excuse if the Texans look stupid.

ahh..thats real cute :D. Reading comprehension is your friend. Ya see..I was talking about our first two games in relation to the performance of Williams and Bush. The point being that this past sunday, and next sunday, Williams is going up against all star offensive lines.. while Bush is going up against bottom of the barrel run defenses.

seems pretty obvious to me... of course, I dont have an agenda like you.

Good post Grid! I knew you learned a thing or two in my class

Honestly, I watch a ton of college ball and Ryans was a helluva player. Up until about two days of the NFL Draft, I didn't even know who Mario Williams was. And when I found out what team Mario was on I was like, "oh, he plays with Manny Lawson."

That's not true. Perhaps Bush is not the kind of back that Kubiak wants for his system. Sure Reggie has a lot of moves, but he's also doing his own thing. Kubiak is a coach that likes consistency over flash (look no further than Shanahan for that model). RB loses yards on his runs, too, which might be too risky for the offense Kubiak is installing.

As far as Mario, we won't really know how he pans out for 2-3 years. HoF DE Bruce Smith said it took him a couple of years just to learn how to deal with seasoned offensive linemen. Giving it time is just the way it is in the NFL for that position.

If you think people are loving Bush now, wait until they see him next week against Green Bay. Bush will be owning Top Plays of the Week come next Sunday night, but come on people, it's Green Bay...

That's what I'm afraid of. They play Green Bay and we play....

AT INDIANAPOLIS.

That's not going to help Mario's cause at all.

This guy was a stellar pick, there is more to come from this bright young star.....Hopefully defensive rookie of the year and pro-bowl would be nice..

Actually GB had one of the better run defenses in the NFL last year
