Kub's plan for Carr

Great Post!! Much props....very revealing

Except:

"That said, the Texans were in negotiations with Bush and agent Joel Segal until two days before the draft. When the sides couldn't agree on the guaranteed money in the contract, the Texans went to Williams."

Im not sure this is true.

that article sucked.. mostly because it deflates my confidence in Carr's ability to be rehabilitated.

Well written and interesting read.. but id have preferred to have him talk about the light at the end of the tunnel, rather than the apparent lack of improvement that Carr has shown.

thats why all the media gave the texans a hard time at least from what i could tell they went the cheap route. and from what i could tell that was the only reason or was it strange that they were only interested in mario williams 1 week before the draft. when they couldnt come up with a deal with bush.

Now, after Carr has been sacked 208 times in four years, some scouts and personnel people wonder.
"Watch Carr's eyes when he plays," one scout said. "He doesn't look downfield, ready to attack the defense. He looks more like a guy waiting to get attacked. His eyes are looking around at the linemen all the time. It's like he's freaked out about where the pressure is going to come from.

"And talk about happy feet … really, it's not the kid's fault. When you can't pass block effectively, it kills your quarterback in every way. Harrington has gone through the same thing. I'm not saying Harrington is as good as Carr, because he's not. But neither one of them has been able to do anything because they're either on their back or so scared about the play falling apart that they dump passes all day."

Seems to me he is quoting not giving an opinion. I got the feeling there is hope for Carr from the article. The Elway comparison helps to understand that things CAN get better.

Its so much easier to say "him" than "The writer of the article as well as the scouts and personnel people with whom he talks to".

If he comes on here and says to me "Dont blame me, I didnt say it".. THEN I will say "oops sorry".

As for "hope for Carr".. eh.. the Elway comparison was more of an indicator of what Kubiak is trying to do. It is a way of pushing Carr to improve. The article gave no indication that Carr has improved..and actually point out that he did poorly when everything was thrown at him, ala John Elway. John Elway didnt do too hot either.. but it still doesnt give me a good feeling about the Carr project.

Im hoping he makes a quick recovery and starts showing improvement. I dont want to watch the broken Carr play for the next 2 seasons before he finally starts to show his worth.

I think that the bottom line is that Carr has the potential to be good, possibily very good at times...if Kubiak can rewire him after the 4yrs of "coaching and development" he got under Capers & Co.

Makes me wonder a bit how good he could be in his 5th season if Casserly had gotten a decent veteran QB to take the lumps for the first couple seasons and show Carr the rules of the road.

yeah i like the elway connection, imho though carr has got a better arm than elway, but he has similar physical traits

yeah I brought this up before, then throw in the fact the o-line turned out to be a joke after bosselli dint play. not the perfect situaltion to throw a rookie QB into.

Worse, he threw an interception into double coverage when he had no pressure coming at him.

I hate when people say stuff like this--two players around a thrown ball is not necessarily double coverage. There was one guy covering Lundy--the ball was tipped up and a LB who was not covering Lundy made a good play on the tipped ball to get the INT.

I remember MW getting as much or more than Bush asked.

I agree, that irked me too.

I agree. This post tells us what we already know about Carr but offers virtually nothing into what is going to get him over the 'hump.' Most posters agree that Carr's problem are mental, as he can not handle pressure and often makes mistakes when there is no pressure. Kubiak has identified the obvious problems that he can immediately affect--OL, better personnel, better playbook--but I believe these are only superficial if Carr himself does not make changes.

I'm guessing that the Carr 'project' is much more to try to fix than Kubiak first thought, probally thinking it was going to be an adjustment here or there. Too, there are hints that Carr is not a quick 'learner' nor effective 'decision maker.' Palmer had to abandon his efforts to change Carr's throwing motion and implement most of his playbook.

Kubiak wants his QB to be a leader on the field and to make split second decisions on the field based upon what he sees and has the greatest chance to succeed at. Ibar says Carr at FS was told 'everything' to do and was given no 'freedom' to deviate from what the coaches told him to do. Conflict exists here.

IMO, this is a tenuous situation as their does not seem to be a lot of common ground. Are we missing too many intangibles here? Does Carr have 'inside' what it takes to be the kind of QB Kubiak wants? I'm not knocking Carr here but he has to-not only want to make onfield decisions--but also have the 'thinking' process to make (more often than not) the correct decisions.

This is going to be an interesting scenario for us fans to watch Carr as he tries to 're-invent' himself as an NFL QB, albeit an 'effective NFL QB.
