Roy Manning (LB) a new Texan

He was only released Saturday - one of their last cuts.

There were reports of a shoulder injury in the Pack's game against Cincy, but it couldn't have been too serious because he played in their last preseason game against TN.

They have three good LBs with Barnett, and the young Hawk and Hodge. Not sure about the guy who reportedly beat out Manning though - Tracy White who's a journeyman free agent. I would't go ga ga over Manning but hopefully he can help LB depth and special teams.

We already had an open spot i believe, meaning we dont have to get rid of anyone else on the roster yet...i expect we will be trying to add more D-linemen and DB's, hopefully we'll find someone.

Both Orr and Manning are Michigan grads. Hopefully Manning will work out as well as the rest of the LB's from Ann Arbor- Orr, Ian Gold (Denver), Larry Foote (Pittsburgh), Cato June (Indy). If Joppru has a good year I can love the Texans even more (if that's possible).

That open spot was for Dayne. We had to cut Bedell for this.

Still haven't seen the announcement. He probably took his physical this morning.

Here's some stuff I solicited from a Packers board fwiw:

The addition of Abdul Hodge, AJ Hawk and Ben Taylor led to Manning's being cut. It was a numbers game. Add to that his somewhat limited range and speed along with some limitations on special teams and he became the odd man out. I still think he could be successful in this league playing the strong side and being taken off the field on passing downs. Never gonna be a star, but can be decent back-up and occasional starter.

Good addition to your coverage teams as well. He always seemed to be at or near the ball.

I'd just reiterate what's already been said. He's not a great player by any means, but could be a competent backup.

Manning is a solid backup. Not the fastest guy, but a sure tackler. A quailty backup at the SAM and as been said good good contributer on special teams.
