Possible trade on the way?

anyone else smell a trade in the works? possibly a Volek and Brown trade?
maybe for a different team, but there's no way we trade for Volek considering Carr is our starter and Sage has looked pretty good at backup. even though Volek is very talented, there is no reason to give up a pick/player for him

but I wouldn't be suprised if we trade for a RB

I hear most of the league is not wanting to trade for Volek because they're waiting for him to get cut instead.

He's not going to want to come here though. He wants to at least go somewhere he can be a #2. He's too good to be a #3.

I'd look for them to take a look at someone like Najeh Davenport. I doubt we make a trade for any backs...I don't think we need a starter, just more of a goal line/short yardage guy.

I didn't get to read the titans board on a post about Volek to chargers(with a questionmark)

Davenport is always injured though. It would be like putting Davis in the doghouse because he gets injured so much, only to get another injury-prone RB who is less talented than Davis. Wouldn't make that much sense to me.

I like him too, lets hope we get a back and are also able to retain Taylor and Anderson on the practice squad

He's been injured while carrying the load, something that we will not ask of him to do here. Most interesting offseason in our history.

The Titans really messed up (again) with what they did with Volek. He won't come here though. (I'd be surprised.)

Volek isn't worth starting and he didn't have a very good preseason. VY looked better than him when he played and he wasn't even working with the first team in practice.

I trust kubiak to have a plan because i know we aren't set at RB or QB yet. no way we go with two of each and 4 tight ends.
We wont go with 2 RB's but we will have only 2 QB's they have done this in Denver.

Yeah, I like the way he really squirts through the hole...Some GB fans think he stinks though, so he may be a crappy pickup if we do indeed get him...

Oh, in case you didn't realize, I was making light of this story from his days at "the U"...

Something definitely has to be in the works either via trade or free agency at Running Back. No way we can start the season with only Lundy and Morency. Anyone else think Ron Dayne is a possibility via Free Agency, being in Denver last season he is very familiar with the system and can quickly come in here.

It just occured to me that whoever that 53rd player is must not be waiver eligible, meaning they will have to negotiate a contract. Not sure who fits into that category, but it would mean the player will have been in the leaguue for over 4 years.

Ron Dayne could make sense, he's been in for 7 yrs. Lee Suggs would be out in that scenario. Not sure on Davenport.

Go Texans!
Volek wanted out of his contract last seaosn when Pennington was done for the year. He really wanted to go to the Jets because it was assumed he would be their starter (which, when you look at the Jets, you can see that it's possible...).

The Titans refused to let him go because they felt he was better than the other options currently out there when McNair was either hurt and/or contemplating leaving. No way they were going to lose Volek. But of course, that all changes when you draft Mr. Highlight Reel, doesn't it? Now he's just leftover tunafish sitting next to a fresh steak marinating in Perini Steakhouse rub.

Volek thinks he's starter quality. He wouldn't come here. He'll either get a trade, or get cut. And if he gets cut, he'll wait until somebody's QB goes down this seaosn...then he'll be available to become a starter. That's my opinion.

Thomas Jones is going to be the Bears' starter. The Bears tried to supplant him with Cedric...but Cedric got hurt. Now, IMO, I think the Bears eat some crow and let Jones be the starter. They at least will not part ways with Jones because of Cedric's injury and the chance of it happening again. That just wouldn't be smart of them to do.

No, I think the most likely scenario is that Dayne comes in as a short yardage guy, a goal line guy. He knows the Denver system. He's actually begun to get better over the past year or so. Davenport is very very very injur-prone. Please don't let us get him.

D-Rek, just wanted to know at least one person saw the pun. So if we did sign Davenport, do you think he would have to duke it out with Lundy...he-he.

I wish I had some idea of a player we could be trading for, but I really don't. Thomas Jones is a great RB, but I think the Bears know that too. And its doubtful that they would trade him. If we are trading I would love a great #2 CB or LB without giving up too much. Our Defense looks 2-3 players away from a very solid unit.

Davenport would be great, but how much would be end up paying for him ?

I'm sorry, I just don't get it. What do you all see in Najeh? Did any of you watch him play this preseason?

... Built like a typical short-yardage back that can 'pile it on' ... :spy:

I've been seeing some GB-games the last years, and I've always liked the way he brought it all to the game.

I'm sorry if we do not agree upon this.

Basically, my point is that he looked terrible this preseason. He was cut by the Packers, and they really need a good RB.

GB has good RB's, at least they did last year even after starting their 6'th string RB due to injuries (5'th or 6th?)
GB is also semi-rebuilding (get ready for the big cleanout after favre retires) and Davenport may not be part of the young future of GB.

Speculation at best, but sometimes teams let good players go for other reasons than pure skill/productivity. I'm pretty sure the Colts did not let The Edge go because he underachieved :)

The only pile Dayne has moved in the last 3 years is a pile of donuts. Last 3 years, 2 TDs. First 3 years, 15 TDs. He was tried as Short Yardage back while at NYG and failed horribly. He played 1 year in the Denver system, to the tune of 53 attempts 270 yards and 1 touchdown. I'd venture to say Wali Lundy has had that many carries in preseason, with much more success.

Volek sucks!!!!!!!! That guy is way overrated. Dayne is going to be great for this team, he runs hard and has something to prove. Davenport will be a high dollar move so i dont see it.

Looks like I got one right, Texans signed Dayne. It just made sense, I'm sure he'll be a short yardage guy but should be able to help Morency and Lundy out.
