Can this TEAM bring it?

19-10

Waterboy
One thing we've rarley seen is the Texan's taking it to opponents. Like the opening drive 9/8/02. Volumns have been written about that team. I want to know if objective, sane Texan's fans think this TEAM (top to bottom) can bring some heat, dictate pace and put pressure on opposing offenses and defenses. New coaches, schemes and players could/should help but do they want it as bad as we do? Do they have the eye of the tiger? Or are they just hoping to improve? Being an underdog is fine if you are out to prove someone wrong. I know there is talent,, as well as room for improvement, but is the will and desire needed to prepare inside this team? Can they, WILL they BRING IT? Wins and losses aside

I think they will bring it like we haven't seen before. I think they will lose close games, but I expect them to be competitive. I don't anticipate the Texans to blow leads, miss kicks, and go every which way but win over the last three to four games. I also expect them to have a losing record over the first half of the season and a winning record over the second half. We'll see...

That's the first thing I'm asking of them as a fan. I do think the coaching and talent will bring the wins in due time. But let's see some crazy attitude along the way

I think we need to work on our toughness. My impression is it's hard to have the eye of the tiger in Houston where you're eating sushi in the sun while sweet talking gorgeous women and practicing in a bubble and playing in a dome.

We need that cold weather, broken knuckles, foamy mouth, rage induced battle cry motivated killer energy that you get with some other teams.

I think we are closer on defense, but the offense has a way to go. I see Wali Lundy as a good start in this direction on offense.

I think it's pretty apparent that we are going to fight every game tooth and nail, win or loss...I think Kubes has instilled a control the game mindset in the offense, and Smith has instilled a pin your ears back, get after it, yet be disciplined attitude in our defense...I have been pleased with the agressiveness and forcefulness that the offense, defense, and special teams have played with....I am actually not concerned with wins and losses this season...I am actually looking forward to seeing a "good game"...unlike last year where I didn't see a win in sight.....But this year there isn't a team on our schedule that i look at and assume they are going to dominate us...HERE'S TO A HELLUVA SEASON !!!!:redtowel: :highfive: :fans: :wherewill

I think we will see a team similar to the team who beat the cowbroads our first year...against the eagles i think we dictate pace in that game and win it.... On a regular basis??? its hard to say i think we have to string a number of wins together in order to really see what we are made of. Part of that is winning close games and making big plays.

There's no doubt that the Texans will bring it this year. Defense is bringing it as we speak,as for the O, I think it will take them a few games under thier belts to actually know that they can dominate an opposing defense. I'm not sayng that they won't be competitive, but to just dominate opposing D's we have to be clicking on all cylinders, which is bound to happen thru the first 6 games against some pretty decent D's. Our D is going to keep us in situations where one good drive by our O, could mean a W or L, ala the denver game. This team is going to raise eyebrows to the AFC SOUTH and the NFL, and I can't freakin wait to tell all the bandwagon jumpers to step off and stay off.

True Royalty's video clip of Campbell is what I'm talking about here. We look like we are afraid of getting hit out there on offense. Look, I wouldn't want to get hit out there either, but this is an NFL football team. I'd like to see us aggressive and making other people scared on offense. Like Campbell plowing into that guy in the clip. Putzier looks like he'd run somebody over. Lundy seems like he ain't scared. Of course Moulds is going to bring it. Everybody needs to stick it to the other team like Campbell in that clip. I don't want to see any Marvin Harrison's running scared and ducking for cover.

I think they will but they will end up working up to it there are somethings that needs to be work out on both sides of the ball. What I'm waiting for is leadership on both sides we need a leader like a Ray Lewis, who if someone is not pulling their wieght will get in their face on the field. My hope is Super Mario or Ryans decide to take it on their shoulders. On the offence side I thought Carr would be the guy to step in that role but I just don't know if he has what it takes maybe Moulds can be that guy and show Carr how to be that kind of a guy or maybe AJ. All that being said the future looks brite and I think we are going to see them bring it some time during the season.

IMO, Mario is not that type of player....From what I have seen in interviews and his demeanor on the field he seems to be pretty laid back and nonchalant(sp)....I can possibly see Ryans being that guy, but IMO we already have a guy like that in D-Rob....

I think we should brace ourselves for a long first half of the season. The Texans could be 2-6 or worse at the mid-point.

The second half of the season they will probably pick things (due to easier opponents) up to bring hope going into the offseason.

I just don't see the offense being assertive enough to control the ball and score points effectively, particularly in the first half. Which makes the defense's job that much harder.

Sure, there will be improved play, but right now I don't see that translating into victories.

Optimism is great, but sometimes you gotta get in reality. Honestly, some of you guys on this board are not in reality, just my opinion of course.

Let's hope the defense brings it every game. We can say and wish they have been tought it now with a new staff, but be it preseason or not, the Texans so far have not played from behind by much, so we don't know if they will lay down like last year or not. When the game is close, you play aggresive, when down by 17, we shall see...
Just show emotion, both on good plays and bad ones, show heart, get pissed, both at the other team and your own if need be. I will accept a losing season, won't like it, but if growth and improvements are made week to week, then I am ok with it.
As for the O, well take everything personal..keep DC off his ass, and that means if you are geting yours kicked, well then do what ya gotta do to kick thiers back!

Go Texans

Or better. :)

having played football before, I have to say there are really 4 elements to every game:
1. Offense team
2. Defense team
3. Special team
4. and probably the most intangible of all is THE FANS!!!!

I really do not think people realize how much players feed off of the Fans when they are loud and the adrenaline starts to flow. No matter what the score is, DEFENSE NEEDS ITS FANS!!!

If the opposing offense cannot hear, mistakes happen and so do turnovers. So I say this, or challenge this, whenever that defense is on the field, make sure the other team's offense cannot hear the play calling.

There are only a couple team fans that do this no matter what the score is winning, close, or losing.
  • Packers
  • maybe Jets
  • maybe giants
  • Bear fans when they are winning

As you can see I put the Bear fans last, and really should not be in there in my opinion. I am at the home games (at least 3-4) and you would think it was Tea Time and serving crumpets or something. I am ALWAYS on my feet trying to get the crowd into it and I usually do 8-10 times, but man I share that adrenaline flow when that defense starts jumping up and down, diggin in deep before the snap and then CRASH!!!

Oh ya is it football season yeet or what!!!

I hear ya I like to hear Reliant get loud like when the Stros were making a push for the playoffs ( the Cards series) it seems mild in fact the games I have been to I have been told by people to please tone it down a bit. It's a football game I'm there to support my team win or lose of course I always have a bit to drink but when I leave I'm hoarse. I agree we need to lose this Houston is a nice game to go see for the other teams fans I'm not saying throw your beer on the other team but we do not need to be nice and mellow.

What is reality? I think you're buiding up some of these teams to be larger than life. Most of the games on the Texans' schedule are against mid-level teams. I'd break it down as:

Super Bowl contenders (playoff locks): Colts (2), Pats
Playoff contenders: Jags (2), Skins, Dolphins, Giants
Possible .500 teams: Eagles, Cowboys
Sub .500 teams: Titans (2), Jets, Bills, Browns, Raiders

How is that any tougher than any other NFL team is facing? Granted, the 5 road games in 6 weeks is brutal (if not unprecedented). But, it's not unrealistic for the Texans to come up with 3 wins in that stretch. Not seeing all the gloom & doom over the schedule.

My point is the first six games in discussing reality. They are:

Eagles
Colts
Redskins - Haven't looked that good in the preseason, but their defense concerns me
Dolphins
Cowboys
Jaguars

The first six games could be the start of the graveyard for the 2006 season.

Games 7 through 13 are a lot easier, which are several of the teams you mentioned.

As I have said, if the Texans beat the Eagles in the home opener, I like the chances of going 8-8 or better in 2006.

They drop to the Eagles, look for 5 wins or less for 2006.

The first six games will tell us what kind of team we have for the 2006 season. And what really concerns me is the offense, it really doesn't look like they are going to be putting a lot points on the board early in the season, unless Kubiak was sandbagging in the preseason.

The Eagles game is going to give us good indication of what to expect for 2006.

You've said this a bunch of times and it makes no sense IMO. Drop the game to the Eagles and you have one loss. How are you turning one loss into a three loss swing? As for it being a predictor of future games that will really depend on how the game is played not the W/L. Play them tough and miss a winning field goal is no reason to expect a poor season.

Bring it...It's already been brought it. Sorry, I thought that was funny.

IMO, I think we haven't even seen the real Texans yet. Once the real game planning starts, playcalling, blitz packages, etc. the preseason was only a small glimpse of how great this team will be.

What he said.

Every week there are games that the team that was supposed to win doesn't and vice versa. Right now, We're as likely to go 6-0 to start as we are likely to 0-6.

I don't see them beating the Colts in week 2. Maybe they will split against Washington and Miami, if they are lucky. Then Cowboys and the Jaguars. I think they will beat the Jags at home and I don't care what anyone says.

My point is, they have to win games they are supposed to win. I just don't see how they can come out of those first six games at .500 or better and lose to the Eagles in Week 1.

That isn't to say it can't happen, but take a look at what we have seen in the preseason. If they can't beat the Eagles, how are they going to beat the Redskins or Dolphins a few weeks later? I know they could get better quickly, but we haven't seen anything that this team is making huge steps forward.

Bottom line, the Eagles game is a game they should win. If they can't win that game, I don't see anything changing for consistent wins over the next 5 games due to the quality of the opponents.

We shall see.

I think this analysis goes with what I have been saying...

You know what I've hated about that best case scenario crap.

This: It is sayin in the best case scenario we will get sweeped by the jags.

Well since you are trying to be "realistic" I'd say you are ignoring the history of what goes on every year in the NFL. The bulk of the prognosticators ignore the off-season and act like teams will perform like last year but every year teams tank and climb. How are they going to win if they lose to the Eagles?--the same way they beat the 10-6 Giants in 2002, the 10 win Steelers in 2002, the SB bound Panthers in 2003, the 10 win never lose at home Dolphins in 2003, etc.--by playing better than the other team on that day--that is afterall why they play the games.

One thing to think about when considering the Colts game(s) - Kubiak was part of the brain trust that studied the Colts inside and out with the Broncos. The Broncos knew they'd have to beat the Colts if they wanted to get to the SB and said as much when they traded Portis for Bailey. All that film preparation on Kubiak's part is going to be beneficial to the Texans now. We're going to beat the Colts at some point, why not this year? Logic would tend to suggest the home game will be the more likely of the two to be winnable, but I'm holding out hope for Week Two as well. The Colts have not established a run game yet, which has played huge in their overall offense in years past.

I think that Miami game is kind of how this game against the Eagles will turn out.

I also believe that the defense we had those first two years put us in many situations to win a lot more games but we never had the offense to make that happen. I believe we now do and we should see us win a lot of games we had no business winning.

How could this be a "best case" scenario, and we lose to the Cowgirls? If we have a losing season this year I hope at least we hand them a beating to remember.

You make very good points and provide history, but I don't think it is applicable to this squad.

I base my analysis on the recent coaching change and what we have seen in the preseason.

What really concerns me is the offense, particularly the passing game. I don't see how the offense is going to score more than 25 points in a game.

I don't think there is a defensive coordinator in the league right that is concerned about David Carr lighting them up.

My point is, if we see the same offensive team we saw in the preseason, those first six games are going to be brutual. And probably will line up as I have described it.

We shall see...

Now I am saying make noise, not cursing throwing beer, etc on the opposing fans players. I sit at Soldier field in Section 124 row 3 and row 5 because I get a few games from a friend. I love getting the kids all worked up and excited. We have kids, but I control my language (most fo the time, sometimes I get a slip and then I apologize) bu just getting loud, not inappropriate.

Bring it?

Isn't there only one it, and if so I though V Young had it, right? or did he leave it here in Houston for the Texans to go get. I hope so because I was tired of Vince having it and not the Texans. I can't wait for the season to so we can finally see it.

I'm a Texan..

I think our defense has the potential to bring it, and probably our running game has the potential to bring it. I can't speak about our passing game, though, because I'm just not confident in what we've seen so far. Same with special teams.

Ask Jake "The Snake" Plummer and his 54.2 QB rating, also ask rest of teams we played in preseason. Did we do as much as we could have, no this is preaseason and as I recall Richard Smith said they weren't going to show it all in preseason.

True that - just hope we can ask 13 other teams after the season. Especially if we start off slow in a game or wins/losses.

That fourth and one last night that we stopped helped answer my question.
Simmons brought it, as did others. It's contagious.

Here's to a beat down of the Eagles.:boxing:

One good drive, one long pass to AJ that we couldn't convert to 6 and one INT. Does that about cover "bringing it"?

This is exactly what I meant when asking the question. I'm more discouraged now than ever. Maybe it was the drive back last night in the rain, maybe it's a Monday but really somone please tell me what I have to be excited about as a Texan's fan. I can hardly get jacked about Battle Red - that my friends is a sad sad statement. This team has no heart or fight. Why was R.Williams allowed to clock D. Carr like that on our sideline?? There should have been two flags on that play 1. for the illegal hit and 2. for a Texan with some sack getting there revenge. No this team cannot bring it -

I agree with you and this is why I say that David isn't leading this team. Yes he is playing well and if there is anyone that wants him to succeed with this team it is me but that was a great indication that he is not leading this team and therefore I am now at a point where if we benched him I wouldn't be mad. We have to find a leader.

I just dont know but for no one to stand up for him is appauling to me. Come to think of it I don't recall any lineman ever fighting for him and there have been plenty of reasons to. Do they not respect him? Would they play better for someone else?????? I do know this the league doesn't protect him like they do other QB's and it could end badly for him.

I don't think this team can bring it.

They smell like they stepped in it and they play like it but they can't bring it.
