Jacksonville vs. Tampa Bay preseason game thread

The hags 1st team defense looked pretty stout on the Bucs last drive, sack, tackle for no gain, pass for no gain.

Yeah I'm watching this game too. Also, keeping track of the Saints v Colts game on NFL.com. The Jags D is impressive. John Henderson is one massive man eh?

Also, I would like to say that Simms is looking good. (For those of you who said he would suck this year.)

Yeah, their secondary looks so-so, but the D line is impressive as usual, their offense looks pretty bad from what I have seen.

I never understand how Byron Leftwich plays football. He is slower than slow and he constantly looks out of it, like he's both drunk and depressed. He always has this Capers-esque "duh, what is going on" look about him. He's played pretty piss poor so far but statistically he's always put up across a season. Jacksonville's D-line is monstrous as usual.

Our offensive line is going to have a big challenge going up against the hags defensive line.

Yes and no. I don't think they're very fast; as long as we keep Carr on the move, we'll be okay.

If the Jags had a good offense we would be in deep trouble. Their front 7 is nothing to mess around with. I wish we were getting that sort of push up the middle. Our pressure seems to take longer to get there. Maybe I'm just too critical of our own team. :P

I agree, hag fans call him tough because he always gets hurt and comes back, but he is always getting hurt because he lacks mobility IMO.

Man I cannot wait until we get the chance to play Jacksonville if they play like this on Offense. =) It may be a low scoring game, but I think we should win.

haha Barnes just got worked by Rice...

The Jags first team offense has looked borderline horrible...

Leftwich is like a statue back there.

A statue that can't throw. I know this guy is supposed to be pretty decent, but every game I see with him he sucks.

From what I have seen of him, he's got a gun for an arm, he needs lots of time in the pocket, and his passes are either spot on or no where close to the target. I really want to see Garrard in there, there has been war going on at the Jags MB for years on who the better QB is and who should be starting.

Usually stationary QBs have a very accurate throw, and a very strong arm. I don't see that with Leftwich.

That's what I've seen as well...Also, he holds on to the ball for an eternity...A couple of the times he was sacked in the first half were simply because he would not get rid of the ball...

I am curious to see how the season goes along for the hags without Jimmy Smith, they've got Jones who is a big target, but he doesn't seem as fast as advertised to me, although I haven't seen all that much of him.

That's what I've gathered from watching Jones as well...He also doesn't seem to position himself well when the ball is in the air...The few times I have seen him, he doesn't seem to use his size advantages, but he is still new to the position...

As a whole, they have a lot of potential, but someone needs to step up and replace Smith, or else they are in danger of ending up like the Tack receiver corps, a whole bunch of 2s and 3s with no clear cut number one guy...

Jones loses speed, because of wasted motion due to his route running. At this point he's still trying to learn how to be a receiver

The only thing that wories me about playing the hags is that if our front 7 on defense can't put pressure on Leftwich, I think the hags WR's can take advantage of the size advantage over our DB's. Our tallest CB is 6'1'' with Lewis Sanders and John Walker, the rest of our CB's are under 6'. Three of the 4 starting WR's for the hags are 6'4'' or taller.

That's very true, but we should be able to get pressure on a consistent basis this year and make it where Byron doesn't have long to go through his progressions...What worries me is that they have very capable TEs as well as WRs, and I'm not sure if we have improved in our TE coverage...

True, they have some big capable TE's.

Greg Jones went down clutching his leg uh oh. EDIT seems like he was getting up under his own power before commercial, looked to me like he took a helmet to the knee. The hags offense looks better against Tampa's #2 guys...

Boy the hags 1st team offense looks good against the Bucs 2nd team defense... Their first team has scored twice...against the Bucs second team defense...

I know, the worst part is their fans seem to not notice its the 2nd team. I'm sure they are talking trash too. Man I can't wait till the reg season. :francis:

4 sacks in the first half........

they'll be screaming for Gurard by week 2.

Mark my words. Gradkoski will eventually start for the Bucs. Gruden likes the kid and played well last time I checked.

Huh? Did you watch the game? Are you being serious?

Gradkoski didn't impress this game.... but not much on offense did for either team.

I was puzzled Gruden only signed Simms to a one year deal..... but it doesn't appear that Simms is the answer in Tampa.

Fat Albert is such a target back there that if his line isn't perfect in protection, he is screwed. You have to plant stakes to see if he is moving.

No, hence the "last time I checked." I've pieced many clues together to make my educated guess. Plus, he's still a rookie.

Chris Simms in an interview(paraphrashed): "I would say that rookie QB Bruce Gradkoski is coach Gruden's whipping boy."

Gruden in "In their Own Words"(once again, paraphrased): "I might yell more at some guys than others because I believe in them and I believe they can be better than they are now.

Texan279, what is a hag? I like your team and you guys are worth calling the Texans over at our board, do you ever remember seeing me saying what other members there call you there and I won't say it here but you know what word I'm talking about. Besides I like this team over the Titans and the colts.
