Texans v. Broncos: Preseason Preview

Wrote a preview of the game here.

Nothing particularly earth shattering in the preview, just a way of looking at the upcoming game.

I am worried about our pass defense.
 
Our pass D is certainly something to be concerned about. I would assume that corner will be a major target in our next draft. I'm betting though that someone drops a corner that we find 'significant' enough to upgrade our team.

Our safety's are also concerning me a bit with the TE coverage. I wouldn't be suprised to see Denver try and exploit that this weekend. Those TE seams are open - we're going to need to fix that, as well.

This will be a good test this weekend. Nice article, TC.
 
I think our pass coverage will be fine, if we start applying pressure. Smith promised an aggressive D but so far we've been pretty conservative IMO. Not "Capers conservative" but conservative nonetheless.

TC, you mentioned there being concerns of Morency's durability: huh? Where did that come from?

If he's an injury concern I wasn't aware of it. Please elaborate, and forgive me if that's a stupid question, but I just don't remember hearing about this until now.

It could be because he sat out of a pratice because of a bruise. Some think he should have sucked it up and praticed through it. I think its still preseason, and he would have got out there if it ment something. If I'm wrong he wont play much because you get banged up in a whole season.

Yeah, Kubiak kinda talked about how running backs practice when they are dinged.

He is not a big guy. And he has had various injuries throughout camp. You would love to see him run all season like he did the last game, but you worry some how he would hold up. At least I do.

Too right you are, still if he is able to he could be in the Probowl eh? :) At least thats what I think. I just hope Carr starts to get his head in the game. We really could have a great offense. (but thats another topic I think we have enough DC threads as it is)

Denver backs have come out of nowhere to have huge seasons. It is a question of whose play on the field demands that the ball be given to him.
 
Okay, so our boys are 2-0 this preaseason. We had a pretty good opener against the Chiefs from Kansas City, but struggled a little more with the first team offense vs. St. Louis last week (espically the first two drives).

We now go into Mile High Stadium to battle the Broncos in what I feel is the most important pre-season game. This should be a very good test for our guys with the loud stadium, and the great team we are facing in Denver on both sides of the ball. I also it would be important for our guys to go out, fight hard and excute for our coach Gary Kubiak- as this is where he formerly coached for a long time.

The following are what I think we need to do vs. Denver to have a succesful outing:

*Better start offensively! Last week our first two drives with our first-team offense included 3-and-out's and a 14-yard loss sack on David Carr. We need to get off to a better start, Carr needs to get the ball out faster and conect with our playmakers in Andre Johnson, Eric Moulds and Jeb Putzier. I think we will also show more this week as opposed to last week on what our offense will look like this year.

*Another good Defensive Performance! We have stopped the run pretty well both games this pre-season on defense, and overall have played some good defense. We are getting to the QB more, knocking down pases, etc. I want to see us do this vs. Denver also. Keep in mind that Denver runs a very similar offense to what we do. Therefore, our defense should be used to some of the looks they give us. I want to see Mario Williams continue to improve and have another good night, I want to see Antwaan Peek make a few plays again, and have this defense show me they can be very good on a very consistent note.

*Fundamentaly sound Speical Teams! Gary Kubiak put a good amount of emphasis during traning camp on the importance of special teams. We showed some very nice punt-returns last week with Buchanon, and hopefully we can get some more good punt returns this week. I also want to see Kris Brown hit a couple Field Goals. I think and have thought he is a solid kicker, but he has struggled some since the end of the last year and into this pre-season as he missed a kick last week. I think he has settled down since and is ready to convert on his attempts.

Overall, this is a big pre-season game for us. It's the 3rd one, the most important, lets see how we can battle Denver in a loud stadium, how we play for our coach in Kubiak when facing his old team, if we can bounce back on offense and continue the solid defensive play.

Thanks for the insite lord knows ESPN not going to mention it not with T.O crying about his hamstring I would think something would be mention about Coach Kubes return shoot I haven't seen it metioned on nfl.com. The only time we are talked about is when the socalled experts talk about how we blew it not drafting the 7 yards in the first half getting owned by the Cowgirls Reggie Bush.

The only question I have regarding our corners, is are we going to pay Buchanon for performing like a proBowler in a contract year??

I have no question that he's got the skill, & the talent.... he just hasn't shown the want to. If he can play for us all year the way he played against StL's 1st, 2nd, & 3rd teams, then we've got all the corners we need.

we've also got Faggins and Sanders who although they are where they need to be as far as developing, they can't beat out Dunta, and Buchannon.. who might very well be the best CB Tandem in the league today.

Our real weekness in our secondary is Safety........... FS to be more precise..
 
Regarding the secondary . . . I like how Tim Ryan on NFL Sirius Radio puts it.

"You show me a Pro Bowl cornerback, I'll show a Pro Bowl DL in front of him."

Our secondary will be fine as long as the guys up front get pressure.
 
Texans 28 Broncos 14..............I have been right almost dead on with the score for the last 2 weeks.:shades:
