NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Vince Young gave the Tennessee Titans - and himself - a scare Wednesday when the back of his throwing hand slammed against a helmet during practice.

Young was examined on the field, then walked off for X-rays and did not return to practice. Coach Jeff Fisher said he wasn't too concerned, because the preliminary examination on the field indicated only a bruise.
"He's going to be all right. X-rays were negative," Fisher said. "He's going to have a sore hand, and we haven't ruled him out for the game."

The Titans host Atlanta on Saturday.

Young said he would test his hand Thursday to see if he could grip and squeeze a ball.

The sound of his hand crashing against the helmet and the resulting sting worried the No. 3 pick overall in last April's draft.

I just have a feeling VY isn't going to make it through this season without a substancial injury. He is too much of a gamer which can be to his detriment in the NFL.

I don't want to see him get hurt by no means but I would be lying if I said I was pulling for him to succeed at the NFL level. If he would have went to any other team (OK, maybe not Dallas), I would be pulling for him, however his success is now Bud's and I can't have that.

i was just watchin there training camp for a lil bit today, and on the one on ones it looks like he makes smart throws, were only his receiver can get those balls, but i was only watching for acouple minutes

all the best for Vince Young, we love yah man

I agree. I can't root for anyone that plays for the Titans. I hope he turns into a total flop. Ryan Leaf Jr!

Didn't Brett Favre have a lingering injury to his throwing hand from this same type of accident? I seem to remember one year him having problems all season from hitting his hand on a defensive player's helmet.

Sounds painful.

I heard someone (either Ron Jaworski or Joe Theismann) say on ESPN radio one day last week, that over the course of his career, he broke at least one bone in every finger on his throwing hand ....

I remember years ago a KC QB played with the pin in his finger. It was gross looking and I couldn't imagine how he did that. I can't remember if he hurt it on a helmet or what but seems like every game or so you'll see a QB shaking his hand and you know he popped somebody's helmet with it. That's just got to really hurt.

Yea he hurt his thumb and barely could take a snap from center because the pain was so bad.. but he still had a canon even though injured.

Yea I remember that and I remember Madden or somebody talking about it and they showed his thumb and it was very swollen. Brett is somebody that definitely will play with pain. Thanks for the information.

That was Steve DeBerg. I remember that well. I could be wrong but I seem to remember Warren Moon having this type of injury vs. Pittsburgh right before the playoffs. I think that was the year we played Cincy in the first round with Cody Carlson starting and lost 41-14.

I'll never forget seeing that guy with that pin in his finger and playing!

I figured they had just pumped the guy full of painkillers because it's not human to play with that!

If it was Theismann, later in the show he would have said that he never broke ANY of his fingers of the course of his career.

Remember how Staubach used to play with his hand all jacked up? At one point his throwing pinkie took a 90 degree turn to the right at the knuckle closest to his hand. Looked really sick when they did closeups of him throwing.

Yep, this is just a TC ocupasional hazard. Can't rember a QB who hasn't done this. As far as rooting Ill for VY, no need as long as he hurly-gurly with that passing motion, we're safe. He ever figgures it out, we're in trouble. My bet is on "he's a hard head". We'll see.
