Might as well throw this in here. This cracked me up from ESPN:

"Reggie Bush spiced things up with a nine-yard run and an 11-yard gain on a third-and-2 screen, both on the final drive of the first half. He finished with seven yards on four carries, 14 yards on two receptions -- and disappointment that the starters didn't do better."

Is it just me or is a 1.8 yards/run average per run not very "spicy". :)

I think the Texans need to drop all of their rb's and get someone that has reggie bush potential, or they will NEVER make it to 7 wins again.

I did miss the Reggie Bush part II game.

I know he was held in check.

My theory is that can't break tackles,

so did anyone notice if he broke any tackles tonight?

did they run him in the middle at all?

did he bounce out ever?

or bounce out on busted plays at all?

Most of the time the first guy to touch him started him to stumbling and he went down after a few more yards. But he is going to have to start breaking the arm tackles or he is just a higher paid Terry Metcalf Jr.

Also the ESPN highlight where they are gushing about his vision showed another flaw in his NFL game. Reggie is looking down the field a few levels and forgets people he is by, in the NFL they can catch him, and the about broke him half in his 9 yard carry, a catch I think.

Reggie will be good but he will not be Barry Sanders. He is just not tough enough, he will not go in the middle for the tough yard. Speed does not last and is not as pronounced as in college.

About the only play I saw was just before the half. He caught a quick out pass, and was in the open field for a bout a second and a half. DeMarcus Ware (former 4-3 D/E turned outside LB in 3-4) ran him down and tackled him with a swipe of the arm. So no, he did break any tackles that I saw.

Obviously your parents should have paid more attention to your cultural education! I guess that's why we are here to help.

Guard Troll: "What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?"

King Arthur: "Would that be an African swallow, or a European swallow?"

Troll: "I don't know that...AAAAIIIIIEEEEEE!!!!!!!!"

Sidekick: "I didn't know you knew so much about swallows."

Arthur: "You have to know these things when you are King."

the closest thing he came to breaking a tackle was tripping over a very weak arm tackle, and gaining 3 yards falling forward (great blocking on the sweep, should've been 15+ yards).

they ran him up the middle every other time .... 9 yards on that sweep, -2 total for the rest.

couldnt bounce out, ware picked him up and he wasnt decisive finding a hole initially. welcome to the NFL, where everybody's faster than you are.

his best play came off of a very well executed screen. his one actual reception turned into demarcus ware wearing the pants in that relationship.

the quiet majority didnt want bush, and it'll quickly become obvious why.

Since its ok to jump the gun in preseason and start making assumptions off players careers in just two preseason games, Reggie Bush is going to make a great PR. His offensive skills would best suit The Eagles offensive scheme with Andy Reid style.

SOLDIER #1:
You're using coconuts!
ARTHUR:
What?
SOLDIER #1:
You've got two empty halves of coconut and you're bangin' 'em together.
ARTHUR:
So? We have ridden since the snows of winter covered this land, through the kingdom of Mercia, through--
SOLDIER #1:
Where'd you get the coconuts?
ARTHUR:
We found them.
SOLDIER #1:
Found them? In Mercia? The coconut's tropical!
ARTHUR:
What do you mean?
SOLDIER #1:
Well, this is a temperate zone.
ARTHUR:
The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?
SOLDIER #1:
Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
ARTHUR:
Not at all. They could be carried.
SOLDIER #1:
What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
ARTHUR:
It could grip it by the husk!
SOLDIER #1:
It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
ARTHUR:
Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here?
SOLDIER #1:
Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
ARTHUR:
Please!
SOLDIER #1:
Am I right?
ARTHUR:
I'm not interested!
SOLDIER #2:
It could be carried by an African swallow!
SOLDIER #1:
Oh, yeah, an African swallow maybe, but not a European swallow. That's my point.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah, I agree with that.
ARTHUR:
Will you ask your master if he wants to join my court at Camelot?!
SOLDIER #1:
But then of course a-- African swallows are non-migratory.
SOLDIER #2:
Oh, yeah.
SOLDIER #1:
So, they couldn't bring a coconut back anyway.
[clop clop clop]
SOLDIER #2:
Wait a minute! Supposing two swallows carried it together?
SOLDIER #1:
No, they'd have to have it on a line.
SOLDIER #2:
Well, simple! They'd just use a strand of creeper!
SOLDIER #1:
What, held under the dorsal guiding feathers?
SOLDIER #2:
Well, why not?

Welcome to the NFL Reggie Bush, you are the new target for Defense around the league, he will be held in check, defenses will key on him every game, no team in the NFL is going to have him running around the field like he owns it. Welcome to the best of the best Reggie the NFL, I wish we played the Saints, and Mario could tackle this kid in the backfield for a 20 yard loss, oohh well I will keep dreaming, good luck to both of Reggie and Mario both very talented.........:francis:

Why are we so harsh when it comes to judging reggies performance in the first two games of his career but when mario only gets half a tackle or doesn't put up eye popping stats we chalk that up as him playing like a rookie ? Both of them are rookies and neither has been overly impressive...both have made rookie mistakes...and IMO, both will be beast in their own regards...:fireball:

Rhetorical question probably but I'll say anyway that it's just a natural defensive/aggressive reaction. After one game RB was the next coming of Christ - and after a 4 rushes for 7 yards outing last night, apparently still is -- while Mario is Sam Bowie.

Anyone recall stats from HS or colelge? Ignore the arguments that are plus or minus three sigma

to put it simply, he tried juking and dancing and cutting across field, and the end result is the 4 carries, 7 yards. DeMarcus Ware was made him look silly when Bush tried to juke, he'd just grab him and throw him down.

White's game more conducive to NFL success than Bush's
August 22, 2006

Look, I'm not saying I told you so, but -- OK, I'll let DeMarcus Ware do it.

There was this moment in last night's Cowboys-Saints preseason game when Reggie Bush took a handoff and tried to use his speed to beat the pursuit to the corner. Not surprisingly, Ware, the Cowboys' 270-pound DE/LB, strung the play laterally and pounced on Bush for no gain. He then hovered over him shaking head, as if to say what I said a couple months ago -- this isn't college ball, kid.

All of you who emailed and said I was an idiot for saying LenDale White will be a better pro than Bush (if White gets his Del Taco-eating butt in shape) -- and you know who you are -- please see video of last night's game. Bush: four carries, seven yards.

The NFL is a between-the-tackles league. Guys who can gut it out and pound away at defenses (White) will succeed. Guys who are outside the tackle runners are third-down specialists and return men. And that's fine; there's a place in the NFL for those type players.

In college football, Bush was faster than anyone on the field -- except during the Texas game. The Longhorns defense had (and still does have) fabulous lateral speed. Is there any wonder, then, that White had the better game in the Rose Bowl?

And now that we're at the elite level, White will again be the more productive player -- if he can stay in shape. Bush will be a fun player to watch in the league, but he has to get bigger and more physical to be an every-down back.

And then, I heard the unthinkable: the three doofuses in the television booth were debating if the Texans would be the Portland Trailblazers of the NFL by passing on Bush in the draft. The Trailblazers, of course, passed on some guy named Jordan. Merely the best athlete of our time.

So now it has come to this: we're comparing a third-down specialist to the best team sport athlete in the history of the planet. I've said it a hundred times and I'll say it again: If God himself came down and played Jordan in a game of 21, I'd take Mike and lay the points.

Bush, meanwhile, is battling to stay ahead of a kid who can't drive by a Del Taco without throwing down a few value meals.

I don't know where he's getting his Lendale is awesome schtick -- he even admitted "if he gets his taco-eating butt in shape" -- well I'm here to tell you, that's a really big if.

You can't however ignore or deny the overriding point. I know I can't; I've been saying it for months now. Bush just isn't going to get away with playing in the NFL like he did at USC ... no matter how much ESPN wishes he could.

Because Reggie was supposedly the best RB to ever come out of college and was hyped to no end. Doesn't look like it so far.

Mario wasn't hyped to no end like Reggie Bush and he was actually called overrated in the NFL Draft by Jets fans.

Very simple.

He may not have played much yet, but from the Rose Bowl, you can see LenDale as the power runner. If he gets a little bigger and adds more muscle than fat, he can be a good power back in the NFL running through tackles. Instead of taking tap lessons outside like Reggie Bush. I don't know how good LenDale will be, we will have to wait and see.

Right. But at the same time, neither is Mario or VY.....Every player coming in from college will have to get better/change something about their game...Mario: Cant bull rush everyone; Bush: can't always reverse field; VY: rely on his legs less...none of them are beast....(yet)

I can understand that...but the draft is over, he's not on our team...lets wish him luck(or not) and move on....and on another note...Mario was hyped up to be the next Julius pepper/bruce Smith/ Reggie White by some and he hasn't played up to those standards either...my point is that both players were hyped, though Bush more than eveyone else, but not one of the top three have performed like world beaters...

The guy acts as if Bush had a horrible game against Texas. Sure, he wasn't going off like he did against Fresno State, but he didn't do too terribly in the Rose Bowl:

13 rushes, 82 yards
6 catches, 95 yards

That's 19 touches for 177 yards, an average of 9.3 yards a touch.

Not too shabby against a team where he wasn't faster than the defense, as the article suggests.

Your GOD is a bust. Terrible against Dallas last night. If you judge Mario after two games, you should do the same to Bush.
And if you're annoyed after two weeks, you ain't watching the same games I am. Mario takes on two blockers so Peek can get sacks. Mario takes on two blockers and still bats down a pass. Mario tackles behind the line which is just as good as a sack.
