Hmmm. Nothing like some real game action to evaluate the players. This should be fun to watch.

Nah, you wouldn't be the first person online to inquire about my marital status. :cool:

Besides, guys think they want to hang with a chick that knows a bunch about sports, but you have to be really secure with your masculinity to be going out with someone like that. In my single days, all the guys I knew that were big sports freaks ended up being my buddies and not dates. My husband could care less that I know and care way more about sports than he does, though I don't think he would be cool with it if I was also a better golfer than he is. (There is no chance of that happening).

(BTW, there is no risk that I will need to turn in my girl card any time soon. I like shoe shopping).

Anyway, to get back on topic, I am really looking forward to this game. Out of all the rest of the preseason games, I think that the Rams are a team that wants to win the preseason games as badly as the Texans do. Denver and TB, like any team wants to win, but they are probably not putting it as high of a priority as the Rams and Texans are because of the ugliness of last season and all the new coaches.
 
It is nice to see as different perspective of the Texans. After reading your preview I began to question how much KC wanted to win last week.

This is no longer the Rams offense of old (if 5years ago is old :) ). This is the second year without Marshall Faulk for the Rams. I think the truth is beginning to sink in for them like it did for Priest Holmes fans for KC.

While I think Jackson is a tough back, the Texans are up to the challenge. This is not a 3-4 anymore.

On a small note, this is the first road game under Kubiak. It could be loud for the QB's at certain moment in the game. I am interested in their performance.

I am just hoping for another Texans win.
 
I am looking forward to seeing how our D handles the Linehan O. This should be a real test of our pass defense game.

And just to be clear, it will be televised here in Houston, right?

KC probably wanted to win for their new coach but was really trying to survive in one piece. Scrambling last second for QBs, and playing a 4th string QB for most of the game.

Loud is going to be interesting this year in the league. They have revised the rules to make it harder for teams to do silent counts using small movements of the center, etc.

They probably did this to help Peyton Manning some more in his dome because the NFL loves him so much, but eventually, when our fanbase gets loud like in the past, the Texans are gonna cause people troubles with this rule change.
 
Agreed. This is going to be a tough challenge and should help us gauge where we are at and how far we still have to go...

Texans Chick, I also agree that it will be interesting to see how our "D" holds up to playing non-4th string qb's. The Rams seem to have an abundance of backups that they want to see in action.
 
I really want to see how we do handling passing. The blitzes will be a good measure of our o-line. We could see the best and worst of the Texans in one half of football...

Speaking of blitzes...will we be doing any of that? Against KC we were able to get pressure with our front four (made my heart happy - I actually had an Oiler's flashback) but we didn't blitz much that I saw. We've been saying for months that one of the greatest things about Mario is that he occupies so many blockers that our other pass rushers should blow up. We won't really see the full effect of that until we start sending an extra guy at the QB. We've also said that the pass rush will make our secondary better and this will be a game when they could use a hand. Seems to me that blitzing is a big part of our D and I'd like to see what happens when we do it a little more often.
 
Good preview. Was nice to see what kind of team we're facing, and it should be a good game.

My opinion is that Herm Edwards is the probem in K.C., not that it was a preseason game and that they just didn't care to win. It takes only a few smackdowns, even in preseason, for players to one-by-one begin to doubt themselves...and that leads to big problems. I predict an average year for Herm, but he'll slowly kill that team with the same arsenic he slipped the Jets all those years. He's Dom Capers II.

This game does provide a better gauge of our team. And I agree that it'd be nice to see our first team get off the field un-injured after perhaps 1 or 2 series. If that happens, and we lose the game, then I'm not worried. I just want to see plays for positive yardage and/or a sustained drive out of our first team unit.

Was great to win the first game, and win it handily. Now it's time to stay safe and evaluate.

Their first team offense was good. The rest was crapatola because of their QB. Theoretically, it could have been that our defense was stellar, but I just don't think that a 4th string QB can give you much of an evaluation.

Their first team defense was all right. A couple of balls bouncing differently and their stats would have been fat.

All that being said, I am not a Herm fan.

Had it been a regular season game, the stats wouldn't have been so lopsided. Larry Johnson would have had a good game and our first team defense didn't look that impressive. That's what preseason is for though.

By the time the regular season arrives the Texans DL should be as ready as ever.

I think it is more interesting to compare the Texans Defense and the Giants defense. Larry Johnson got 8 yards with 4 carries (2 ypc) while in the game for two drives against the Giants; whereas, he had 7 carries for 30 yards (4.3 ypc) against the Texans. I will assume that after some real gametime LJ should have improved the next week. It did not work that way. So was the Giants defense great or was the Texans defense not that good? I just hope they learn to play as a single unit by the time the season starts.
 
Herm is going to slowly kill that Chiefs team.

He's Dom Capers, but with a bonus: He's actually got a personality and some good "coach speak" during media interviews.

That Chiefs team is destined for what we just went through here. Bank on it.

I look at that from a different perspective. I think that the Texans learned from the KC game that, when facing such a strong inside running game, we need a DT stouter than Weaver in the interior (I must credit AFD1717 for leading me to that realization). The Giants either were already beefier on the inside, or they adjusted based on what they saw from the Texans/Chefs (spelling intentional) game. All of which is to say that I don't think you can make a direct comparison between the Texan D performance and that of the Giant D from the KC games.

I actaully like Herm Edwards, but only has a defensive co ordinator. I wouuld not peg the blame game squarely on him either. The fact that they are losing key role players on their offensive line is a good reason for problems. The only fair blame Edwards could have is that he is running the offense his way. Last year, it was a fine tuned thing and it obviously worked. Vermiel left, so someone had to fill his shoes.

I would think that losing Al Saunders, too, was a blow to the Chef Offense.
